Revealed: The 8 Foods Brits Take Aboard!

January is officially upon us and following the trend of years past, Brits are busier than ever booking their holiday’s aboard for the upcoming year. As they go jetting off to exotic destinations near and far, however, you might be surprised at just how many British holidaymakers make sure to take a little bit of home away with them. To get some insight into this phenomena we surveyed 2000 UK adults about their habits of bringing certain British staples with them when they travel. The results revealed that a whopping 52% are guilty of the habit.

It probably does not come as much of a surprise that the most popular item making it into suitcases leaving Britain is tea. A whole 48% of the participants in our survey agreed that foreign tea just doesn’t taste the same. For 37%, the solution was as simple as bringing their own. 23% responded that they bring their own coffee on holiday and 16% that they take biscuits such as digestives and custard cremes for dunking.

All this taken into consideration, two-thirds of the adults surveyed failed to name a country where you’ll be breaking the law by not declaring tea at Customs. Don’t feel bad if you belong to this 68% but keep in mind for future adventures abroad that Australia, New Zealand and the US all have laws demanding the declaration of tea.

But now to the good news! 2019 will see the launch of Oliver’s Travels’ brand new “Home from Home” delivery service in our most popular destinations. Upon request, travellers can receive a welcome hamper upon arrival at their holiday villa packed will all the goodies they just don’t want to go without. This hamper will include: PG Tips Tea Bags, Kenco instant Coffee, Chocolate Digestives, Weetabix, Jaffa Cakes, Cadbury’s Dairy Milk, Branston Pickle, Marmite, Tabasco, Canderel sweetener, Lea and Perrins Worcestershire sauce, HP brown sauce, Heinz Ketchup, Heinz Baked Beans, Cathedral City cheddar cheese, Andrex toilet paper.

We’ll leave you with this infographic diving deeper into the results of our survey and some wise words from co-founder Oliver Bell:

“The UK has long been a nation of explorers who love the idea of visiting far-flung lands and being introduced to diverse cultures. But having that explorers’ nature doesn’t mean we don’t long for home occasionally.”
