As you can imagine, everyone who works at Oliver’s Travels is passionate about travel. Whenever one of the team gets back into the office after an adventure abroad or at home, we’re ready and waiting to pick their brains so we can pass any of their travel tips or amazing experiences on to you! Our Italy & Spain specialist Zara recently indulged in a trip to the White Island itself, checking out a few of our luxury villas in Ibiza while she was there. Here’s what she had to say…
I’ve just come back from Ibiza, the magical White Isle. I was lucky enough to grab flights that weren’t at antisocial times too! Normally flights are very early in the morning and last thing at night. In another stroke of luck, my flight out didn’t come with the usual hullabaloo of drunken clubbers preparing themselves for the party island, although the return plane was full of slightly depressed and very tired passengers!
What can I say – I’m a sun worshipper! Even though they were only a few fleeting moments where I caught the sun’s rays, it was enough to make me appreciate being sent on this trip!
I had the amazing opportunity to be invited to Heart, the new creative experience by Ferran and Albert Adrià – the chefs behind the much-lauded (and now sadly closed) restaurant Elbulli and Cirque du Soleil. You can choose from Supper Club where you are taken on an exquisite gastronomical journey or go up to the rooftop terrace which serves food and drinks from a range of quirky street stalls including Mexican, Chinese and traditional Spanish. While you sample your delights, expect to be wowed by performances from the incredible Cirque du Soleil artists. It’s a completely immersive and interactive fusion of music, food, performance and art.
I didn’t have the chance to stay on for when the club opened as I had an early start inspecting villas! However, I know that over the summer there were performances from Hercules & Love Affair, Groove Armada, Booka Shade, Acid Pauli, Duran Duran, and Carl Cox.
It is extraordinary how laid back the atmosphere is. Of course, there is the part of the island (San Antonio) renowned for stag and hen madness and excessive partying but if you take the time to explore the old town, Santa Gertrudis, Las Salinas and the North of the island you’ll experience a very zen side to Ibiza.
Watching the sunset over one of the 50 stunning beaches: There are secret bays to miles-long tourist traps. Whether on a party beach like Playa d’en Bossa, with its many holidaymakers, or the hushed, pebbled bay of Cala Llarga, it’s well worth exploring the options on an island that prides itself on its stunning coastlines. Make sure you take home some of their precious salt as a pretty souvenir or to add to your kitchen cabinet too!
