Tuscany is one of those destinations that makes everyone go glassy-eyed upon hearing the name. If you’ve ever been lucky enough to enjoy a stay at one of our many beautiful luxury villas in Tuscany, you’ll know that the breathtaking landscapes, the world-class wine and the characteristic cuisine are all truly unforgettable. But what’s the best way to make the most of your trip? We’ve been asking local experts for their opinion on the cream of things to do in their selected regions. This time we’re talking to Luca Marchetti about authentic Tuscany.
In the beautiful town of Montecatini Terme in the Tuscan hills. The town is famous for its Art Nouveau spas, chic ships and beautiful park. There is lots to do in the local area, like visiting the thermal pools at Monsummano Terme or wandering the Renaissance square in Pistoia. One of the nearest cities in Lucca which is famous for its ancient Roman amphitheatre. Even the leaning tower of Pisa is close by, and so is San Gimignano which is famous for its medieval towers. We are near the coast as well, and if you stay in the area, you can easily visit Viareggio, Forte dei Marmi and Cinque Terre.
Because it is located in the heart of Tuscany and is close to all the major cities, but at the same time, it is also found in a very quiet and ventilated a few meters from the village square of Montecatini Alto with local shops and restaurants.
Enjoying life in the ancient village of Montecatini Alto, eating in typical Tuscan restaurants in the Square or walking through the scenic streets of the village.
The first thing to do – you should drop your bags and… Enjoy the view and take a cooling dip in the spa pool, or drink a glass of wine on the panoramic terraces of the villa.
Don’t miss… A trip on the traditional funicular to reach Montecatini Terme.
Favourite restaurants? Caffe Giusti, Casa Gala Ristorante, Ristorante la Torre and Pizzeria le Maschere.
And what’s one dish that everyone who visits has to try? Try three – Fettunta (typical toasted Tuscan bread with extra virgin olive oil), Bistecca Fiorentina and beans from Sorana.
Best drinking spot? Enoteca da Giovanni and Ristorante Enoteca Pecora Nera, both in Montecatini Terme.
Favourite activity? Spa treatments and shopping!
Something free for families and friends to do? Visit the medieval villages near Montecatini Alto.
Somewhere with a great panoramic view? The view of Tuscany from the tower of the villa is pretty hard to beat!
A great family activity! Swim in the sea of Versilia, visit the park of Pinocchio in Collodi, Mini golf in Montecatini Terme and go to the Zoo in Pistoia.
And something for adults or groups of friends to enjoy? Visit the farms and wineries of Montecarlo and taste typical Tuscan wines.
And what are the best places for day tours? Visit Firenze, Arezzo, Siena, Pisa, Lucca and San Gimignano.
Relaxation, culture and great food!
Giuseppe Verdi stayed at Villa Grocco, and it’s said he composed the first act of Otello here. Other singers and artists have also liked a vacation here, so it must be good for inspiration! Moreover, Montecatini Terme has hosted many international artists such as Grace Kelly, Woody Allen and Frank Sinatra.
Start with breakfast on the rooftop terrace then take a refreshing dip in the pool, followed by arriving in Montecatini Terme on the funicular and crossing the thermal park to reach the train and then visit the Pistoia, Lucca or Florence.
