Top 3 Restaurants for Eating out in Dordogne

Parisian gourmet cuisine may be celebrated around the world, but if you really want to discover the true tastes of France, head to the Dordogne Valley. This idyllic region, known as Périgord by the locals, is famous for producing rich dishes revolving around locally sourced, traditional ingredients like black truffles, duck and goose meats and walnuts.

As the experts in French holidays, it seemed only fair that we head out to the region ourselves to embark on an exhaustive taste-test of the region’s best eateries. After much deliberation, we can now reveal our Oliver’s Travels pick of the top three restaurants for you to enjoy in Dordogne.

1. Cabanoix et Châtaigne, Domme

French Restaurant – Cabanoix

It’s worth booking in advance for a meal here if you intend to travel at peak season, as this unique restaurant’s imaginative take on classic cuisine is a well-established magnet for foodies in the region. Head Chef Laurent Secouard specialises in re-imagining foie gras, with serving options including poached in Bergerac red wine, seared with spices and fleur de sel, or even as a carpaccio.

2. L’Imparfait, Bergerac

French Restaurant – Imparfait

Whether you choose to dine al fresco or in the 12th century dining room, you’re unlikely to forget the charm of your surroundings at L’Imparfait. The menu prides itself on taking the skills and techniques that have characterised cooking in the region for hundreds of years and updating them for the 21st century. The nearby Chateau La Moinerie is the perfect place to relax after a hearty meal of escargots, beef, and duck liver pâté and has an equally illustrious history, with parts of the building dating back to the Dark Ages.

3. Les Jardins d’Harmonie, Sarlat-la-Canéda

Les Jardins d’Harmonie

Championing the very best in Périgourdian cuisine, Chef Marc Bidoyet prepares tantalising delicacies like pan-fried foie gras and black truffle omelettes. Hidden in a courtyard in the labyrinthine old town of Sarlat-la-Canéda, Les Jardins d’Harmonie provides a complete Dordogne experience, encompassing the beauty of the scenery and the exceptional culinary creations in one memorable meal.

And if we made you curious enough and you’re wondering where to stay in Dordogne, don’t wonder anymore! We’ve a large range of luxury chateaux to rent in Dordoge. And if you’re to busy to search for the best accommodation, just contact our concierge team and they’ll do all the legwork for you!
