Top 5 Reasons To Visit Brac

Found right in the heart of the Adriatic Sea, Brac is one of those destinations many haven’t heard of yet – but that’s surely about to change. Offering a unique kind of trip that’s equal parts relaxing and entertaining, Brac boasts something of everything – classic coastal towns, ample hiking routes and a storied history to boot! But if you’re only now learning of this island, it may take some convincing to spend your hard-earned summer holiday here. That’s why we’ve pulled together a list of our top reasons to visit Brac.

1. Instagram potential

Brac may not have the star power of neighbours HvarSplit and Dubrovnik, but it’s been ranked as one of the most beautiful islands in the world. Combining stunning stone buildings with sandy beaches and flourishing wildlife, it’s not hard to see why Brac is considered an up-and-coming destination. No filter needed for these holiday snaps!

2. See Zlatni Rat

Zlatni Rat, also known as Golden Beach, is undoubtedly one of the most famous sights to come out of Brac. Stretching out into the sea, its unique triangular shape shifts with the wind, rendering it a popular spot with windsurfers. Just keep in mind that the beach looks better from above, so consider taking a helicopter tour if you want to snap the slim, stony formation in its full glory.

3. Hike up Vidova Gora

Vidova Gora serves as the highest point on Brac – but also the Adriatic Islands as a whole. To hike the structure, it’ll take you between 3 and 5 hours, but we guarantee you won’t regret the climb when you take in the panoramic views at the top. Not steady on your feet? Don’t worry, as there’s also the option to drive up. Pack a picnic and watch the sunset from this magnificent viewpoint – you may find yourself coming back more than once.

4. Stonemasonry history

After taking in the captivating stone buildings of Brac, you won’t be so surprised to learn that this island is famous for its stonemasonry past. In fact, Brac’s stone is actually used around the world, including in the construction of the USA’s White House. To discover more, take a visit to the Stonemason School in Pucisca.

5. Try traditional Dalmatian dishes

The cuisine in Brac is quintessentially Croatian: fresh seafood, vegetables, and lots of olive oil! There’s a wealth of produce served here that’s taken straight from the Adriatic Sea, though keep in mind that fish dishes are often priced by weight. Alternatively for meat eaters, peka is a must-try, seeing lamb and vegetables cooked under a bell-like lid with hot ash on top.

A variety of goat’s and sheep’s cheeses are also made here for vegetarians to sample, plus an ample selection of seasonal fruits and vegetables – you can’t beat a crisp salad on a sunny day!

So, that’s our top five reasons to visit Brac, but there’s so much more to discover on this island. If you’re looking for a base from which to uncover it all, check out our luxury villas in Brac. Need help deciding? Contact our concierge team to find the best holiday home for you.
