Welcome to the stunning grade II listed Colleton East Wing. It holds a truly marvellous location, nestled within thirty-eight acres of private woodland and parkland, it offers those fortunate enough to stay the perfect country escape where they can enjoy total tranquillity. Its unspoilt location, set between Exmoor to the north and Dartmoor to the south, makes Colleton the perfect choice for those wishing to really explore Devon and all that it has to offer. While you will be staying in an area boasting rolling countryside, moorlands and valleys, the rugged north Devon coastline with its gorgeous beaches, is just a short car journey away.

The home boasts a rich and fascinating history and while it is believed to date back to Elizabethan times, Sir James Roupell Colleton purchased the Hall in 1833 and spent several years upgrading the house enhancing the existing Georgian features; today’s style and architecture reflect this. In recent years, Colleton Hall has been completely refurbished by the present owners, revealing original features and now seamlessly blends its original character and charm with modern interiors and updated furnishings. Colleton East Wing, which once served as the stables to the main hall, can comfortably accommodate up to six guests across three well-appointed bedrooms. The stylish East Wing has its own private entrance hall, living room, kitchen and three well-appointed bedrooms, two doubles, one of which boasts en-suite facilities, and a twin room, ideal for siblings or friends sharing. The two additional bedrooms share the use of a family bathroom.

The real wow factor can be found outside, the grounds are south facing which allows guests to enjoy wonderful countryside views. The expansive grounds offer the opportunity for long walks through the totally private woodland alongside the stream which flows to the Little Dart River. The children are bound to enjoy wildlife spotting with the opportunity to see a range of diverse wildlife (including red deer) and birdlife!

What you should know…

  • Please note that the East Wing is an annexe separate from the Main House, Colleton Hall. If you would like the entire property to yourself than you will need to rent Colleton Hall & East Wing and pay the price for 18 guests
  • There is both a lake and a stream in the gardens and so we advise that particularly young children are not left to explore alone

Reviews

  • We would go back there again in a heartbeat.

    on 29/09/2024

East Wing is beautifully decorated and brilliantly provisioned. We loved our time there and the hosts, Russell and Richard, provided great suggestions for daily walks and historically interesting sites to visit. They obviously love the property and have created an elegant environment that is also welcoming and comfortable. Colleton has superb grounds including a lake with ducks, fields and woods. Plenty to do for all, and we would go back there again in a heartbeat.

  • Wonderful

    on 14/07/2024

Just returned home after a relaxing break at the wonderful Colleton Hall.
What a way to recharge the batteries. Sipping wine on the terrace, whilst watching
ducklings at play, alongside aerobatic displays from the swifts, Truly delightful.
The accommodation was spotless and is tastefully decorated. The grounds are magical, with plenty of seating areas, to catch the sun at any time of day, and the woods provide a variety of interesting walks. Our four legged friend was in his element. He has done nothing but sleep since we left!
And finally, the hosts, Russell and Richard, for whom nothing is too much trouble. They are so thoughtful and generous. Good company too…we had a hoot.

  • We had an amazing time and could not recommend Colleton Hall enough.

    on 07/06/2024

We stayed at Colleton Hall in early May 2024 for a family member’s significant birthday and had three generations stay there. The hall is beautiful and has been lovingly-restored by its owners. It is a stunning building with loads of space for all the family. We enjoyed some very good weather and so were able to explore the beautiful grounds, including the lake and some woods. Our children loved feeding the ducks every morning by the lake in the sun, which was idyllic.
Russell was an extremely helpful host, who made contact before we arrived offering recommendations of places to eat and see and was able to take in a supermarket delivery which was in the fridge for our arrival. He was extremely helpful throughout the stay. We had an amazing time and could not recommend Colleton Hall enough.

  • The perfect setting

    on 31/12/2021

Russell and Richard were the perfect hosts from start to finish. This was a trip that had been postponed from Christmas 2020 because of the pandemic so everyone was so looking forward to the break. Colleton Hall did not disappoint.
Russell and Richard had gone to great lengths to ensure that the hall was decorated perfectly with a stunning Christmas tree taking centre stage.

The hall it’s self was just the perfect setting with plenty of space for our party to enjoy. Being big foodies the the dining areas and kitchens where a big win for us and gave everyone a chance to get involved. Fully kitted out with everything you could possibly need. Perfection. We also enjoyed the spacious bedrooms and bathrooms again fitted out to a high specification with no detail missed from fluffy towels to crips bed sheets it’s safe to say everyone slept well.

Colleton Hall is the gift that keeps giving, once you venture out to explore the grounds it’s surprise after surprise from woody walks to private picnic areas where we relaxed with a little tipple while out enjoying everything the beautiful grounds have to offer. We had the best time and can’t wait to visit Colleton Hall again.

  • A wonderful week away!

    on 11/05/2021

We had a wonderful week away at East Colleton Hall. The place is amazing, beautiful grounds and a very smart house. Russell couldn’t have been more generous or accommodating - he helped to find activities for us to do in Devon with our little children, and left an abundance of goodies in the house for our arrival. He also invited us over for drinks and canapés and gave us a tour of Colleton Hall. His hospitality and generosity were much appreciated and really added to our great week.

  • Brilliant

    on 04/01/2021

As you will be aware we enjoyed a short break at Colleton Hall (East Wing).

We had a wonderful welcome from the hosts when we arrived. The property was well presented and equipped with great attention to detail, including welcome gifts for our children, which helped them to settle in. The grounds are breathtaking and we enjoyed walking in the woods. All in all, a brilliant experience!

  • Will definitely be back!

    on 26/10/2020

We stayed in the East Wing for a week and loved the cosy atmosphere and the great surroundings from the very first moment. Stunning views from each room, carefully selected antiques and paintings, a lovely terrace with barbecue and a running trail in the wood - nothing was missing. Even our son, a passionate fisherman, could stay with his tent at the lake overnight. Russell and Richard are fantastic hosts and made us feel very welcome. Their day trip and restaurant suggestions were great! We are missing Colleton already and will definitely be back.
