Welcome to the stunning grade II listed Colleton Hall. It holds a truly marvellous location, nestled within thirty-eight acres of private woodland and parkland, it offers those fortunate enough to stay the perfect country escape where they can enjoy total tranquillity all year round. Its unspoilt location, set between Exmoor to the north and Dartmoor to the south, makes Colleton the perfect choice for those wishing to really explore Devon and all that it has to offer. While you will be staying in an area boasting rolling countryside, moorlands and valleys, the rugged north Devon coastline with its gorgeous beaches, is just a short car journey away.
The home boasts a rich and fascinating history and while it is believed to date back to Elizabethan times, Sir James Roupell Colleton purchased the Hall in 1833 and spent several years upgrading the house enhancing the existing Georgian features; today’s style and architecture reflect this. In recent years, Colleton Hall has been completely refurbished by the present owners, revealing original features and now seamlessly blends its original character and charm with modern interiors and updated furnishings.
Colleton Hall can comfortably accommodate up to twelve guests across six, well- appointed ensuite bedrooms. On the ground floor is the main living accommodation, the four grand reception rooms including a grand gothic reception hall are all south facing, overlooking the impressive grounds with doors leading onto the terraces. The large, family kitchen boasts all the tools a budding chef could possibly need! Upstairs on the first floor are the six bedrooms, three king-size doubles, two double rooms and a children’s bunk bed room, each with en-suite bathroom or shower room. There are terraces from the West Wing bedroom and also the master en-suite overlooking the lake and parkland in the distance.
This makes Colleton Hall the perfect accommodation for big friends and or family groups celebrations, with pleanty of space and great value for money.
The real wow factor can be found outside, the grounds are south facing which allows guests to enjoy wonderful countryside views. The expansive grounds offer the opportunity for long walks through the totally private woodland alongside the stream which flows to the Little Dart River. The children are bound to enjoy wildlife spotting with the opportunity to see a range of diverse wildlife (including red deer) and birdlife!
Please note that larger groups can be comfortably accommodated in the additional East Wing taking the total group up to 18!
What you should know…
- Those travelling outside of the Summer months should bring their wellies for walks through the woods!
- All bedrooms are located on the first floor so not suitable for those requiring ground floor accommodation
- One of the bedrooms makes use of bunk beds and as a result is better suited to children although this can be easily adapted for comfortable single occupancy
- There is both a lake and a stream in the gardens and so we advise that particularly young children are not left to explore alone
- Grab one of the many Seasonal Promotional Opportunities - Summer holidays, school holidays, Christmas/New Year, Easter, Bank Holidays, Thanksgiving, Valentines/Romantic Escapes, Autumn Colour on Exmoor, Hidden Escapes without the crowds in shoulder/low seasons and more

Russell
How long have you owned the property?
Purchased the property after a lengthy search two years ago and began sympathetic renovations straight away
What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
The landscape of the grounds and the period features of the hall itself plus the easy access to the coast and city
Are there any interesting stories in its history?
There has been a house on the site since pre-doomsday. The current house is believed to be Elizabethan in origin and Sir Colleton made this his permanent home in the Georgian era. Colleton County in South Carolina is named after him.
Do you have a favourite room in the property?
A tough question to answer. The kitchen is great socialising space but the drawing room with an open fire is a great place to relax and enjoy good conversation. The master en-suite bath is great for relaxing with a drink overlooking the parkland and lake
For anyone coming to stay is there anything in the surrounding area they should...
Really do? Explore the North coast and surrounding villages and towns for sure but enjoy what Colleton has to offer too – it’s almost a destination in its own right
Really eat? Devonshire cheeses plus give the Mason Arms and the Stag Inn a try – excellent award winning food
Really see? Exmoor and the North Coast especially Valley of the Rocks
What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
Relax and enjoy what Colleton Hall has to offer and explore the beautiful scenery and villages to be easily found elsewhere in Devon

Wonderful
Just returned home after a relaxing break at the wonderful Colleton Hall.
What a way to recharge the batteries. Sipping wine on the terrace, whilst watching
ducklings at play, alongside aerobatic displays from the swifts, Truly delightful.
The accommodation was spotless and is tastefully decorated. The grounds are magical, with plenty of seating areas, to catch the sun at any time of day, and the woods provide a variety of interesting walks. Our four legged friend was in his element. He has done nothing but sleep since we left!
And finally, the hosts, Russell and Richard, for whom nothing is too much trouble. They are so thoughtful and generous. Good company too…we had a hoot. -
We had an amazing time and could not recommend Colleton Hall enough.
We stayed at Colleton Hall in early May 2024 for a family member’s significant birthday and had three generations stay there. The hall is beautiful and has been lovingly-restored by its owners. It is a stunning building with loads of space for all the family. We enjoyed some very good weather and so were able to explore the beautiful grounds, including the lake and some woods. Our children loved feeding the ducks every morning by the lake in the sun, which was idyllic.
Russell was an extremely helpful host, who made contact before we arrived offering recommendations of places to eat and see and was able to take in a supermarket delivery which was in the fridge for our arrival. He was extremely helpful throughout the stay. We had an amazing time and could not recommend Colleton Hall enough. -
A really memorable stay
For the last 10 years a group of us, 4 or 5 couples have celebrated 2 anniversaries and and a birthday by taking a house for a long weekend in early October. Whilst our requirements are not that difficult it has often been difficult to find a property that fits the bill.
We always look for 4 bedrooms en- suite ( usually the most difficult to fulfil)
A good restaurant nearby for a meal out one night
Good local walks
And a pub nearby to walk to for Sunday lunch.
It was my turn to organise this year and whilst I was not looking at Devon as a location Colleton hall appeared on one of my searches. We all agreed it fitted the bill and it was duly booked.
The pre arrival information was excellent and Russell followed up with both a call and an email which were really helpful, not least as when we discussed where I had booked for dinner Saturday he told me it had closed ( and the restaurant concerned had not informed me)
The alternative he suggested - Woods in Dulverton was excellent and he even sent me links to book taxis.
The property itself was fantastic, Russell and Richard have spent a lot of time and effort in the restoration, 6 en-suite bathrooms, copious hot water, 2 kitchens and every appliance and condiment you might need plus complimentary beers and a magnum of Prosecco.
There is a fabulous outdoor area with loungers and glorious views which with glorious october weather we took full advantage of.
They clearly enjoy art, often African, and pictures of bulls feature prominently although I never managed to ask why?!
On our final evening we invited them to join us for a drink and that continued long into the night - a really memorable evening, we will return!!

Stunningly beautiful
Before we had even arrived at Colleton Hall, we had experienced the support and kindness of the owner, Russell, who had touched base with us prior to our stay to ensure that all of our requests had been met. And they had!
Arriving at the house we evidenced the attention to detail in every aspect. The house is stunningly beautiful, full of art and delicately lovely objects, yet the house is welcoming and you are invited to appreciate and love the house and all it holds. Every minor detail has been attended to from the chairs round the fire pit, extra candles, life jackets for the children, and on and on.....;
We were a party of 18 from the youngest to the oldest. The space and accommodation, both in the house, the lake, and surrounding acres absorbed us entirely and comfortably whether eating outside or in the central kitchen, the hub of all activity. Or the concert on the grand piano in the Drawing Room.
We had a wonderful week at Colleton Hall and I cannot recommend it highly enough as the owner's appreciation of beauty and love was evidenced throughout the Hall. -
We really loved the grounds!
Our stay at Colleton Hall and the East Annex was excellent! We were a group of 6 adults and 2 children. We really loved the grounds. We cooked dinner over the fire pit (beyond the natural pond) almost every night. We really enjoyed feeding the dogs. Sorry, I meant to say ducks (they wagged their tails and followed us around like dogs! :D) Russell and Richard were lovely hosts, and you could really tell that they took pride in their home. All of the restaurant and point of interest locations that they provided were fantastic. We would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone who wants a bit of peace, quiet, and relaxation during their holiday!

Wonderful!
I just wanted to say that our recent stay at Colleton Hall over Easter was wonderful. The property is gorgeous, as is the garden and the magical setting. The host Russell could not have been more helpful, approachable or friendly. We utilised all the facilities there and spent much time in the cosy sitting room and dining room. All the bedrooms were choicely appointed, and all ensuite too. All my team rated the whole stay highly …and that is praise indeed!
-
Excellent property
Colleton Hall is an excellent property for a stay over Easter. 10 of us had an amazing time. Facilities, garden, and host were all just wonderful as were Oliver's Travels throughout form booking to the actual trip. Thank you so much.

Amazing Easter Stay!
The house was very beautiful both inside and out. It was such a pleasure for us to stay there. The hosts Russell and Richard were very charming and welcoming and we much appreciated them allowing our boisterous 3 year old Labrador to stay with us.
We would highly recommend Colleton Hall to others who may be looking for a luxury break in Devon. -
An exceptional holiday in a wonderful place
We had a brilliant time at Collaton Hall. It was a family gathering with all ages. For the kids there was lots of fun playing games, exploring the grounds, paddling about in the pond, feeding the ducks and camp fires in the evening. For the grandparents there was a lovely garden to relax in and enjoy the beautiful view, and very comfortable indoors when the Easter sun went down.
The house is beautiful. A lovely mix of old and new, very tasteful, comfortable and with a real wow factor - especially the master bathroom! It’s private, with beautiful grounds and an outlook you could never get bored of.
Russell was the perfect host. Everything was well organised and thought through. There when you needed him, and not when you didn’t.
An exceptional holiday in a wonderful place. -

Perfection
This vacation was extremely special to me since it was a surprise my husband arranged for my 30th birthday. We arrived at Colleton Hall as a party of 14 guests and stayed for 4 nights.
Using the word "perfection" would probably not be strong enough. The venue is absolutely stunning in every way and equipped to one's every whim.
Let me mention the hardwood floors, the magnificent artwork, the magical forest and lake (that are full of friendly animals), the fireplaces, several fully equipped kitchens and dining areas, and of course, the marvellous suite with the freestanding bathtub watching over the forest.
Not only was the venue so magnificent that we would hardly want to leave it during the day in order to explore the area and near cities, but it was also fully equipped to help you enjoy the outdoors as well. One of the greatest features was the boot room with several pairs of boots to be used for forest exploration, sports equipment, dog toys and what not.
Staying in Colleton Hall made me feel like I am living in a fairy tale I could not even believe exists in the real world.
I would also like to mention the amazing interactions we had with everyone involved. Starting with lovely Debbie that was ready to meet and greet the guests on arrival day and wish a farewell on the last day. Debbie is a genuinely lovely woman who made us feel welcomed and cared for at every moment along the way. Russel, whom I had not had the chance to meet in person, made me feel welcomed even from afar. My husband mentioned he received a lot of help and care from Russel, which made him feel much at ease while arranging such a complicated trip.
I have not got the words to describe the gratitude I feel for Russel, Debbie, and being able to stay at Colleton Hall. These days were unforgettable and I will be only waiting to come back. -
We had a fabuous time!
Thank you, we had a terrific stay at Colleton Hall during half-term with our family of three generations… aged 3 to 73!
We can’t recommend Colleton Hall enough… what a fabulous time we all had being able to be together under one roof in such palatial, warm, comfortable surroundings. It really is fabulous and despite it’s grandeur it gives a very homely vibe with fascinating artwork everywhere to enjoy. A really wonderful property.
The owner made us feel very welcome and was always available to answer any questions we might have; helpfully receiving online orders on our behalf; nothing was too much trouble.
We loved being there and had great fun using the boats on the lake… activities not usually available to us, quite unique.
We plan to return one day! -
A luxurious and relaxing break
Earlier this month a group of us stayed at Colleton Hall for 6 days.
This charming country house has been beautifully renovated over the last 5 years by Russell and Richard. When we arrived we were shown around by Russell. This took an hour as he wished us to be aware of all the facilities that we could take advantage of. This included the games room housing a pool table and numerous games, the music room with a mini grand piano and a well stocked and varied library. Moving outside the beautiful garden had its own lake which was home to the Colleton Hall mallards. Further a field were the woods with a picnic area and places to explore.
Our experience was one of relaxation and complete luxury. The attention to this was palpable. Russell remained easily contactable for any questions and ‘ checked in’ occasionally to ensure our well being.
We are all looking forward to returning -
An amazing and memorable stay
9 of us had a truly memorable 3 nights at Colleton Hall.
The house was absolutely fabulous. We lacked for nothing even having glorious weather to eat outside in mid September.
All Russell’s recommendations for private chefs and outside caterers were excellent and much appreciated.
We were extremely comfortable and the location is both quiet and relaxing.
Many thanks -
An amazing house with a facinating history!
What an amazing house and grounds! We were shown around by Russell and Richard who explained everything and had left welcome gifts, as well as groceries and toiletries for our use. The house was beautifully presented with top end appliances and decor and furnishings sympathetic to the style of the house. The house has a fascinating history which can be seen in the architecture which has been thoughtfully revealed around the property. There was a substantial library, eclectic artwork and a grand piano to enjoy. Every room was clean and fresh. The grounds were extensive with a vine covered outside dining area on the patio, an orchard, vegetable garden plus fields and woodland to explore. The serenity of the lake was wonderfully relaxing and taking the boat out was very popular with all the group.
Despite the sad news of our Queen, our week at Colleton Hall has been the most enjoyable and restful holiday we’ve ever had and we had to drag ourselves away to explore the Devonshire area, otherwise could have happily spent the whole week not having left the property. -
Perfect for the whole family!
It’s hard not to fall in love with Colleton Hall. Our party of ten, aged eight to eighty, from the UK and the US was given the most fabulous setting for a longed for family break. The house is beautifully decorated, comfortable and fun (wonderful art) with a baby grand in the drawing room. Colleton gives everyone privacy and space (nearly 40 acres helps). Walks here are sublime and the woods magical. There’s even a camp fire set up plus several picnic spots with benches. The super-equipped kitchen(s) make cooking pleasurable and the terrace a serene start or end to the day for summer dining. We learnt to paddleboard on the swimming lake and never made it to the beach. In fact, Colleton Hall was enough for us all. As my father said, ‘I’m in heaven.’ Russell and Richard are thoughtful and consummate hosts and clearly work hard to ensure guests want for nothing. The highlight for my young American nephew was enjoying a picnic under a 350 year old oak tree – something he’ll never do back home. We are not the repeat guest sort but Colleton is so special and such value for money, it has got us all looking in our diaries…

A remote, secluded hide-away just outside the tiny village of Rackenford, Devon. An earthly paradise! John, myself and family including six grandchildren spent one week in this stunning grade 11 listed house, restored, decorated and furnished to the highest standard. Total luxury!
The gardens and extensive grounds including the lake and picnic areas provided us with a wealth of daily options. The morning and evening ritual which will hold fond memories for everyone was feeding the two Muscovy ducks George and Mildred not forgetting the ducklings on the lake. A real ‘Wow’ factor for all.
The Main and Working kitchens were a dream, so well stocked. The Bosch coffee machine (coffee beans provided) the wine fridges, the list is endless - a chef’s delight! With lots of eateries on our doorstep and recommendations from Russell we dined in the Masons Arms in Knowstone, the Stags Inn for Sunday roast in Rackenford, the Lost Kitchen in Chettiscombe, Tiverton and Woods in Dulverton.
From the moment we arrived at Colleton Hall the ‘Oohs’ ‘Aahs’ and shrieks of delight from our grandchildren echoed everywhere as they ran to investigate their new surroundings. Family meals, dining al fresco, walks in the fields, boating, football, tennis, hide& seek, treasure hunts, toasting marshmallows, water fights and story telling with Papa - Magic!
As well seasoned travellers and celebrating our 10th family holiday Colleton Hall has to be top of the list. History, luxury, facilities and outdoor space. Russell and Richard you have created an amazing home, and for us a wealth of memories to take away. -
Genuinely sad to leave
What a wonderful place to host a get together of any kind. Colleton Hall sits beautifully in its setting and we used every part of it - annex, main house, lake, terrace, barbecue, hillside fire pit - to make memories to treasure. Beautifully furnished and equipped with everything you need for a hassle free stay. Super comfy beds, lovely toiletries, amazing views to wake up to from most rooms. We were genuinely sad to leave.

Brilliant long weekend
I wanted to send a quick email following our brilliant long weekend at Colleton Hall last weekend.
When we arrived, Russell met us with a warm welcome and showed us around the beautiful Colleton Hall explaining where everything was and providing us with helpful advice and tips on things to do and places to go locally. We were lucky to have amazing weather on our first day and decided to spend the day at the Hall as there was so much to keep everyone happy in our 3-generation group. Having picked up supplies at the local farm shop we enjoyed a day walking in the woods, canoeing and boating on the beautiful lake, relaxing on the comfortable sun loungers and enjoying a BBQ lunch in the shade of the vine.
All of the children in our group had a great time - playing football, walking, biking, canoeing on the lake, toasting marshmallows by the fire! My 6 year old son particularly loved canoeing and boating on the lake, and knowing there were life jackets provided ensured I was able to relax too!
We enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing weekend, with so many happy memories of quality time together as a family. The Hall had everything we needed and was beautifully presented and well equipped and arranged. We enjoyed three delicious dinners by Relish, amazing food and great service.
We really did have the most special weekend, lots of happy memories and a great family celebration. Thank you Russell for all of the thought and attention you put into things for your guests. -
What an amazing place!
We have just spent 3 nights at Colleton Hall for a family birthday celebration and it was fantastic. The interior furnishings are superb and stylish with everything needed for an extremely comfortable stay. Champagne and chocolates, flowers in the rooms, a welcome hamper and wonderful toiletries all ready and waiting for us when we arrived. The gardens and grounds are lovely and our grandchildren all had great fun boating on the lake and toasting marshmallows up in the fire pit. Russell and Richard have created an amazing house and are wonderful hosts. They were very attentive and made us feel very welcome, nothing was too much trouble for them. We just wished we could have stayed longer.

A truly special place
Colleton Hall is a truly special place and was a fantastic setting to celebrate my 50th birthday with friends and family. We stayed here for 10 nights and spent most of our time enjoying the magnificent grounds, lake and house. Each room in the house is beautifully and thoughtfully decorated and the kitchen(s) literally have everything you could ever need when entertaining a large gathering of people! Our hosts Russell and Richard were amazing and went above and beyond to help with any request we had – they gave us a truly warm welcome and made our stay even more special. We loved Colleton Hall so much, we have already booked to go back next year! I could not recommend the house or the hosts more highly and any stay here will be very memorable.

The perfect setting
Russell and Richard were the perfect hosts from start to finish. This was a trip that had been postponed from Christmas 2020 because of the pandemic so everyone was so looking forward to the break. Colleton Hall did not disappoint.
Russell and Richard had gone to great lengths to ensure that the hall was decorated perfectly with a stunning Christmas tree taking centre stage.
The hall it’s self was just the perfect setting with plenty of space for our party to enjoy. Being big foodies the the dining areas and kitchens where a big win for us and gave everyone a chance to get involved. Fully kitted out with everything you could possibly need. Perfection. We also enjoyed the spacious bedrooms and bathrooms again fitted out to a high specification with no detail missed from fluffy towels to crips bed sheets it’s safe to say everyone slept well.
Colleton Hall is the gift that keeps giving, once you venture out to explore the grounds it’s surprise after surprise from woody walks to private picnic areas where we relaxed with a little tipple while out enjoying everything the beautiful grounds have to offer. We had the best time and can’t wait to visit Colleton Hall again. -
Fantastic!
We had a fantastic time at Colleton Hall. Russell & Richard have created such a wonderful place to unwind and relax. They recommended all the best local restaurants and places to visit. The lake and grounds are immaculately maintained and such a pleasure to enjoy. The house is full of quality furniture and furnishings. The kitchen was well stocked with essential herbs and condiments. Milk, bread, and butter was left in the Fridge for us upon our arrival. We also had a large bottle of Prosecco on the kitchen table for us to enjoy! Such Wonderful hosts. We will certainly return to Colleton Hall again
-
Wonderful weekend
We had a wonderful weekend with three families at Colleton Hall this past weekend. The house set-up was ideal for a large group — lots of areas for the kids to hang out while the adults could sit by the fire. We loved the grounds as well and did a long walk through the forest by the river. We especially liked that it was a grand, period house that felt modern, fresh and cosy. Overall, I would highly recommend the property.

Colleton Hall is beyond compare
Colleton Hall is beyond compare. The house, grounds, view and everything combined has created a space that you want to stay in forever. We had the most amazing weekend at Colleton that would not have been so perfect if it weren't for Russell and Richard. They could not have been more accommodating, knowledgeable or helpful. All the touches and details along the way helped to create the weekend we had imagined. Not only that, they were superb company! We could wax lyrical about the beautiful ensuite rooms, the lake, woodlands or the most splendid bathroom ever, but we'd rather encourage you to go and experience this place for yourselves. We have definitely fallen in love with Colleton Hall - and with Russell and Richard too!

Nothing short of incredible
Our recent stay at Colleton Hall was nothing short of incredible. Our hosts, Russell and Richard were fantastic, offering up some incredible recommendations, including our guided walk with Ed (great for adults and kids), plus Charlotte from Wild Soul Yoga - also fabulous for the whole family, plus a whole host of amazing restaurant recommendations. The grounds are to die for and come alive in the evenings, with the calls from Owls and other wildlife relaxing you to sleep each night. A truly magical week, that we cannot wait to relive. 5 stars!
-
A truly wonderful time
We had a truly wonderful time. The accommodation is stunning, the grounds magnificent and the adventures to be had are endless. Russell and Richard are exceptionally hospitable, they open up their home with such warmth and kindness. A magnificent stay, surrounded by absolute beauty and in luxurious comfort. We can’t wait to return.

AMAZING!
Our stay at Colleton Hall was AMAZING! If you’re looking for pure luxury and escapism this is the house. Russell and Richard were the perfect hosts and couldn’t have been more accommodating, the small touches really made it a memorable and special experience. The grounds and lake are also spectacular, with so much to do there is no need to really leave the house. I would 100% recommend to anyone who is thinking of visiting!

A beautiful house with lovely grounds
We have just been to a lovely place called Colleton Hall in Devon. It was a beautiful house with lovely grounds (including a lake you could swim in) and delightful, helpful and generous owners. Great for a reunion of 14 of us, with a bathroom for each couple.
-
Perfect venue for a holiday
We have just returned from a wonderful stay at Colleton Hall which was an ideal location for our party of 10 plus 3 babies. The accommodation has been lovingly restored by Russell and Richard and is of a very high quality. They were perfect hosts taking great trouble to cater for all our needs and we would recommend Colleton Hall as a perfect venue for a holiday.
-
Warm and Welcoming
Collenton Hall on a warm summers day is a dream.
The house itself is beautiful, and is decorated and furnished to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere . It’s extremely well kitttet out and has everything you need.
The host, Russel was extremely helpful and is knowledgeable about the area and was full of useful information.
Everywhere was sparkling clean and after 5 weekends away around south England this summer , this house is our firm favourite. -
Welcoming and Wonderful
Together with 6 other couples – a group of friends that goes back to University days in the 1960s – we spent a wonderful long weekend at the beautifully situated and brilliantly furnished and equipped Colleton Hall. We go away together to different places every year or so, and this venue has topped the list so far. Russell and Richard, who were there to welcome us as we arrived (before removing themselves for the duration, leaving behind generous gifts of consumables), were extremely helpful, gracious and kind, clearly wanting us to enjoy all that was there to the full. And a lot is there – as well as the house itself, which really couldn't have been more comfortable or better-equipped and is decked with the varied and interesting art they have collected, the lake (with its warm springs) is excellent for swimming and the surrounding meadows and woods are rich in nature (the ancient herb-rich meadows are of particular note). The lake area as well as the house has outside lighting, and the effect at night is really special. Russell had organised for us a nature walk given by Ed, a local forestry expert with a fascinatingly wide experience of all kinds of arboriculture, who interpreted the local ecosystem for us from deep understanding. As a group we had a rather wide range of our knowledge of natural history, which Ed was able to deal with most impressively, and whatever the level of your knowledge we would definitely recommend a tour of the fields, woods and wildlife with Ed if it is available. All in all we had a great time at Colleton Hall – Russell and Richard's home, which they have restored and fashioned over the past few years with great dedication and skill, and now delight in opening to the enjoyment of others. Thank you Russell and Richard! Just to show that I do have critical faculties I might mention the small difficulty in opening cupboards hinged at the side with handles placed centrally…but my goodness, that was the only downside we could think of.

Lovely setting for a memorable weekend
We had a thoroughly enjoyable time and were most impressed by the house and its amenities. So much so, I decided it might be good to let you, as the agent, know my thoughts about this special house.
The setting at Colleton Hall is perfect, wonderfully secluded, with idyllic views over the the lake, rising field and trees beyond.
The house is spacious, tastefully furnished and beautifully maintained. The many paintings, sculptures and objets d'art provided much interest and made us feel we were sharing a much loved home.
The kitchen, or (more correctly) kitchens, were extremely well equipped with high quality appliances, kitchenware, crockery, glassware and cutlery.
There was masses of space and furniture so that all 14 of us could gather together comfortably inside and on the terrace - or find a quiet corner if needed!
We stayed in the annexe and were very comfortable there. As everywhere else, we felt the owners had put a lot of thought into the details that would make their guests feel at home and well cared for.
A highlight of the weekend was the morning nature walk by Ed. It was informative, entertaining and totally absorbing. Ed is very knowledgeable with a fund of anecdotes from a long and varied career in forestry and estate management. His deep (but unsentimental) love of nature and wildlife shone through. I loved the walk and learned so much.
Thank you to everyone involved for providing this lovely setting for a memorable weekend. -
Brilliant!
A perfect place to spend a weekend with friends. It is a beautiful and well equipped house in a lovely setting.
-
Wonderful Weekend
We have just had a wonderful weekend with twelve other friends at this property. We have never stayed in such a well-provisioned house and appreciated all the art pieces and furnishings. Russell and Richard were very generous in allowing us to use the food that was in the house as well as the magnum prosecco and more. We loved the landscape and lake and a highlight was the nature tour with Ed. It is a beautiful and comfortable house.

Cannot recommend highly enough
We are just back from a week's stay at Colleton Hall and cannot recommend it highly enough. The Hall is exquisitely furnished and is superbly equipped. Russell and Richard are charming and attentive hosts with nothing too much trouble. The grounds are spectacular with lots of lovely touches including a woodland firepit and seating and picnic areas, and the children had enormous fun on the lake, in the boat and on paddleboards. We weren't sure whether staycationing in Devon this year was going to be too hectic but Colleton Hall is situated away from the crowds and is an oasis of calm. There is a good choice of places to eat out and we didn't have one disappointing meal whilst we were in the area. Our group was a mix of ages from 6-50, plus one dog and we all had a wonderful time so there is definitely something for everyone. Thank you for a memorable holiday.
-
Highly recommended!
We're just returned from a week at Colleton Hall and would recommend it to anyone. From arrival our hosts were fantastic, going above and beyond to help us settle in and across the week helping us with planning day-trips and answering any question we had.
The house has beautifully designed interiors, spacious bedrooms, comfortable beds and seemingly every little thing we could possibly require on a holiday; their attention to detail is perfect.
Outside, the grounds are gorgeous, with boats, canoes and paddle-boards on the lake, deer roaming the field, ducks wandering freely and wonderful walks to be had across their private fields and forests surrounding the house. -
Perfect house in the perfect setting
We had a lovely stay at Collerton Hall. Richard and Russell were very hospitable and generous. Everything was cleaned very, very well and they left lots of condiments and snacks for us, which was very kind of them.
Perfect house in the perfect setting. Sonos speakers and the amazing dining room were particular highlights!!

Wonderful venue for a big family celebration
Our weekend in Colleton Hall had been much anticipated after being cooped up during lockdown and didn't disappoint. Indeed, our excitement had been heightened by Russell contacting us in advance to make sure we were able to get the best out of the property.
We used the hall to mark a notable family event with 3 generations and had an experience that will live long in the memory. We were very impressed by the range and quality of all the facilities, both inside and out, giving both young and old plenty to do. A lot of time was spent in or on the lake and the lovely outdoor space allowed us to have an excellent BBQ in the pleasant evening sunshine while watching deer prancing across the field and bats flitting around.
The rooms were all beautifully appointed, comfortable and scrupulously clean. The library/dining room was a perfect setting for the celebratory meal we had, made all the better by the excellent local caterers recommended by Russell.
In the short time we were there, we couldn't take advantage of everything on offer despite our best efforts. eg we had to leave the healthy looking produce in the vegetable garden to other guests.
We did have one minor issue (a hangover from the previous occupants), but this was dealt with promptly and efficiently as soon as we mentioned it was still causing an issue.
In summary, if you are looking for a high quality property to deliver that special experience, Colleton Hall should be at the top of your list. -
First class stay
We all enjoyed our stay and would give it a five-star review.
Russell was a perfect host introducing us, on arrival, to the delights of the Hall and checking up on things while we were there to make certain everything was perfect.
The rooms & en-suites were all great and clean for our arrival.
Kitchen facilities were first class - we mainly catered for ourselves although a chef came in our last night.
-
Amazing time
We stayed at Colleton Hall 8th to 11th July 2021, and would like to say how amazing the house and grounds were.
The grounds were immaculate. A beautiful place to sit and unwind. With plenty of chairs and loungers.
The house was just as amazing. With beautiful artefacts and furniture. It was equipped with every mod con, with all the utensils and crockery needed. Russell and Richard couldn't do enough for us and answered any queries we had immediately.
We had an amazing time, and would definitely recommend Colleton Hall. -
We had a wonderful stay at Colleton Hall – in June 2021
When we arrived, we were greeted with flowers, chocolate and champagne and we were given a lovely tour of the house and explained the extensive features.
The property was beautiful – both inside and out. It has fantastic grounds – especially the lake with its own ducks and duck house. We enjoyed using the rowing boat on the lake one afternoon and there are benches around the lake which make an ideal spot for an early evening aperitif. Russell assured us that we could swim in the lake, but unfortunately the weather never really got hot enough, otherwise I would have definitely gone for a dip. The grounds encompass a terrace and informal English garden with roses, poppies and other flowers with a lovely lawn leading down to a stream with a bridge to a playing field and a lake and then up towards a wildflower meadow and two enormous old oaks. There is a copse to the left of the old oaks in which there are two enormous picnic tables and a fire-pit. There is a big gas barbeque on the terrace and another fire-pit. A number of nights we ate on the patio and then lit the fire-pit to stay up talking.
Nature – the grounds are very sympathetic to the environment and the two fields were covered in beautiful wildflowers (buttercups, clover etc) – we saw a wide range of birds (from gold tits all the way up to the Devon Buzzard) and deer ran through the meadow. The dawn chorus in the morning was amazing. There is a stream and bluebell dell which is very peaceful. If you are feeling more active, you can visit the large private wood, which has a picnic area by the stream. We booked a nature walk with a local conservationist and this was excellent. It really allowed us to appreciate the land and its stories.
Inside the house has been lovingly and meticulously renovated to a very high standard. There is wonderful art on the walls, a large library, and an in-tune baby grand piano. The main bedroom is enormous, and the en-suite has a standalone bath with views over the gardens – ideal for a soak after all the walking. The other bedrooms are similarly lovely – each is en-suite either with a shower or bath – and each has its own decorative theme. There are several TVs and a Sonos system throughout. The wifi is good and stable – some of our friends had to do a few conference calls, but had no problems.
It’s a great place if you enjoy cooking/eating and entertaining. There are two kitchens both with large cookers – two fridges, two wine fridges, two dishwashers and a big freezer. There is everything you could need in terms of pots, pans and utensils and a great fancy bean-to-cup coffee machine with a lot of features and functions – but most importantly makes a great cup of coffee. The dining table seats 18, with a good range of quality glasses and crockery. When we arrived, there were flowers in every room.
Our hosts, Russell and Richard couldn’t have been more welcoming and friendly – they have pretty much thought of everything you could want for a holiday stay and were more than happy to help us if we ran out of anything or couldn’t understand something. All in all, we had an amazing stay and definitely hope to return. -
100% approval rating
Colleton Hall is a large and historic property, nicely decorated with art works collected by the pleasant owners who live next door. Acres of lovely rural surroundings, with lots to do and see. For the energetic there’s a lake with paddleboards, and for rainy days there are games, a huge and eclectic selection of books, and a grand piano. We had a post-lockdown family reunion there, with six adults and two children, and all of us gave it a 100% approval rating.
-
Excellent stay
Our family of 8 adults and 2 children enjoyed a wonderful week at Colleton Hall. Beautiful house and grounds in a scenic location with plenty to do. We were blessed with good weather and had fun on the lake with the boat, canoe, paddle boards and the occasional swim! Our little granddaughter especially loved the ducks. Our grandson made good use of the football pitch and practising his skills with the training cones etc that Russell kindly treated him to. We had plenty of woodland walks and a picnic in the picnic area by the stream. Toasting marshmallows up at the campfire one evening was great fun.
We all enjoyed a lovely celebratory meal one evening by Suzie (Relish catering) Russell and Richard are great hosts, extremely friendly and helpful, thank you. -
Magical
Colleton Hall is a magical place: the hosts couldn’t have been kinder or more helpful, the house itself is beautiful, and the grounds perfect for a family holiday. There’s lots to do with a pond for paddle-boarding and swimming, woodland to explore, streams to splash about it, a fire pit for marsh-mallow toasting, lovely benches everywhere for sitting quietly… And in front of the house there’s a long south facing terrace that catches the sun all day and is sheltered enough from the wind to have allowed us to eat outside even on chilly days. Perfect - a five star house for a family holiday.
-
We will be booking again!!
What a fun holiday! The older teens enjoyed the woodland walk with the dogs; the younger teenagers loved the rowboat and paddle boarding in the lake; and everyone enjoyed s’mores by the fire. The house was very warm and comfortable despite being so large. Everyone had lots of space to spread out and do their own thing, even though we often ended up hanging out in the awesome kitchen with sofas, views and a cozy fire. The views are incredible, even from the bathtub! It was great to have so much land, the house felt completely private. The weather was very changeable; but still the girls managed to get out on the lake several times and the fires kept us warm and cosy.
The owners could not have been more helpful from providing advice about activities (surfing lessons, paddle boarding, mountain biking) to delicious restaurants close by (Masons Arms) and farm shops that delivered scrumptious food (Dart). Not to mention keeping us supplied with logs and fire starters for our constant cozy fires. It is not easy to keep everyone happy but Colleton Hall did exactly that. We will certainly be booking this holiday again. Thank you! -
R&R!
Just to say that we got back last weekend from Colleton Hall, and what a lovely experience. The house is pretty amazing, as you well know, very scenic, it was great to chill out just watching the landscape, and if one woke up early enough, the Deer prancing around. Breakfast on the patio gave such a serene feeling. Sitting in front of the fire after the evening meal was charming, but going to the picnic spot, lighting a fire, and toasting Marshmallows took it to another level.
Last but not the least were the hosts, Richard & Russell, really a fantastic pair, nothing was too much trouble for them, and they were only too pleased to pop around and fix the timings of the heating, even late in the evening. I think it was R&R which made the experience unique, the icing on the cake so to speak. Thanks all at Olivers as well. -
A house of great character...
A house of great character in a lovely secluded setting & very well maintained, spotlessly clean, with the added bonus of two fun and considerate hosts. What a treat to arrive to a restocked drinks fridge, a full larder and flowers!. We spent some time beforehand planning our week and Russell was extremely helpful in making restaurant recommendations and helping arrange mountain biking, horse riding and the never to be missed nature walk with the wonderful Ed. We’re still not sure about what lurks at the bottom of the lake but the younger generation did swim in it!
-
Perfect
Just wanted to let you know that we had a really great stay at Colleton Hall last week. It was perfect. A great location, beautifully decorated. It was a lovely place to relax and we could quite happily have stayed there all the time but there is also lots to do nearby and we did lots of walking and cycling and went to several National Trust properties. We really enjoyed the lake for swimming in the afternoons with the kayak and paddleboard. What made our stay perfect though was the wonderful hospitality from Russell and Richard who could not have been more welcoming or helpful. A really excellent choice and we will certainly look to stay there again.
-
We are already planning our return!
As a family of 8, our holiday at Colleton Hall could not have been more perfect. We arrived to the warmest of welcomes from Russell and Richard who kindly introduced us to their magnificent property. The location is quite simply stunning, placed in the most beautiful of grounds which are a constant feast for the eyes. Immaculately presented, the hall itself has grandeur, elegance and oozes charm at the same time. Decorated with great style and functionality, we had everything we needed with an abundance of space. Russell provided a wealth of local information prior to our arrival and both he and Richard were available for any queries during our stay. We couldn’t have wished for better hosts! We enjoyed a truly wonderful week and were so sad to leave. We are already planning our return!

A wonderful week
I just wanted to let you know we had a wonderful week at Colleton Hall. The Hall itself is stunning and it was a privilege to stay there. The views across the garden are beautiful. We spent our time walking in the woods, playing football in the garden and swimming in the lake, as well as relaxing on the loungers. When the rain came, there was everything we needed in the Hall - two kitchens, coffee machine, games, books, Sonos speakers and smart TVs. Russell and Richard were very helpful with regard to advice about local pubs and restaurants and day trips and left the Hall fully stocked with supplies for cooking. We would definitely recommend Colleton Hall as a perfect country holiday home.
-
Wish we could have stayed longer!
My family and I had a wonderful time in Colleton Hall. I only wish we could have stayed longer! It is beautifully designed, as it manages to be not only spacious and practical for a large group, but also stylish and homely. The grounds are just stunning, with woodland, fields, the lake, and the garden all for private use. We were very lucky with the weather, although even if it had rained, there is still plenty to do and enjoy. Russell and Richard were the perfect hosts and really made us all feel so welcome right from the start. They provided lots of useful information pre-arrival, answered all my questions in a timely manner, provided a lovely welcome gift and were available to contact throughout our stay to ensure everything ran smoothly (which it did!). I definitely recommend this property and can't wait to return.
-
Great
We had a great holiday at Colleton Hall. The house has everything. We all swam in the beautiful lake and walked everyday in the magical woods. The children loved the boats and paddle board. The kitchen is very well equipped and Russell has thought of everything for a very comfortable holiday.
-
Exceeded our expectations
Colleton Hall exceeded our expectations from the moment we arrived. We received a very warm welcome from the owners Richard and Russell and the grand tour of the properly did not disappoint. The space is amazing, the views stunning and the lake very refreshing during a heatwave. Not only is the property beautifully decorated, Richard and Russell have worked hard to ensure their guests’ needs are met, and quick to provide for any additional requests. I would highly recommend this beautiful property. We certainly did, hardly leaving the grounds over our week’s stay. Thanks so much for helping with our booking.
-
Highly recommend
We were lucky enough to stay 11 nights at Colleton Hall and it is beautiful. We were a family group of 10 aged from 17 to 81. We all loved it, whether it was due to the beautifully decorated rooms, the ensuite bathrooms, the bbq in the garden, watching the deer or canoeing on the lake, it did not disappoint.
We also had many wonderful evenings sitting in the garden with a glass of wine watching the sun go down.
The owners Russell and Richard could not do enough to ensure that our stay went perfectly. Even down to tracking down a piece of ginger from a neighbour to ensure our evening meal was not ruined!!
We cannot recommend this highly enough. It is a gem and we would love to visit again in the future. -
Thank you
Looking at the photos of this property online had already raised our expectations but upon arrival those expectations were beyond surpassed. Our stay at Colleton Hall couldn’t have been better. Upon arrival we were taken on a grand tour by the owners Russel and Richard who have exquisite taste and were very friendly and welcoming. From the stunning setting, the never ending grounds, the entertainment for the children, the multiple kitchens to the the attention to detail. We were a group of 17, six adults and 11 kids and we were very comfortable. And above all we were saved by Hannah, the charming housekeeper, who was very accommodating to our needs. Can’t wait to come again.

Fantastic
We’ve stayed in many special properties around the world but Colleton Hall is a stand-out experience in every way. The spacious villa is absolutely stunning, designed with incredible taste and attention to detail. It was a joy to cook, lounge and sleep here, looking out onto breathtaking, endless wilderness. It’s proximity to excellent restaurants made the occasional evening out so pleasurable, and the owners were so attentive and helpful. We would come again and again; it’s one of England’s most beautiful hidden gems for a large group looking for something extraordinary in nature.
-
Big 5 stars!
What a find Colleton Hall is. We were a party of 7 with an age range of 4 to 70 years old who had been forced to cancel a foreign holiday and needed a UK alternative. I was hoping for something that would compensate a little for the disappointment of the lost sun-seeking break. We ended up with a two week holiday that the children enjoyed more than going abroad. Swimming in the spring-fed lake, walks through the private woods, toasting marshmallows over the campfire - you don't get any of that in the Algarve. The property itself is stunning with beautiful interiors and everything you need for a large group. And the owners Russell and Richard could not have been more helpful, even going so far as to get hold of a two man tent for the kids to camp in.
Oh and thanks for the bottle of Boli for our anniversary present too.

Exceptional hosts !!!!
We had the pleasure of spending new year at Colleton hall in Devon. From the moment we arrived the owners Russel and Richard couldn’t have been more helpful.
They unpacked our grocery shopping - provided us with complimentary chocolates - mince pies and also food basics just in case we had forgotten anything.
They took time to give us a guided tour of the well appointed house so there was no possibility of us forgetting where things were. We always were given details about nearby shops - pubs etc.
The house itself was decorated to a high standard in all rooms and the kitchen and sitting rooms had absolutely everything you would need for a week/weeks away from home, including plenty of wood for cosy log fires.
We have stayed in many properties and we can honestly say that owners of Colleton hall made the holiday for us. We will be returning. Bravo ! -
Exceptional stay
I wanted to find the perfect property to celebrate my husband’s 50th Bday, and I was not disappointed.
I can honesty say this is the most outstanding property I have ever hired, and it is more like a boutique hotel with the added bonus of being completely private. All of the bedrooms are beautifully comfortable with en suites. The separate East Wing was very helpful for friends who attended without young children, and would be great for older members of the family too who want to avoid any late night noise. It’s child friendly too, as we had ages 1.5yrs+ in attendance. Despite its size (so much living space!) it is very cosy and we didn’t really want to leave.
The owners are outstanding hosts, assisting with local suppliers like caterers (highly recommended to make the weekend even less stress-free) and meeting deliveries for us. Once the kids were in bed we were able to enjoy the beautiful dining room for an adults supper and take advantage of the fabulous Bose sound system!
There is so much to say about this fabulous home, my advice would be just book it- you won’t be disappointed. -
Exceeded expectation!
The entire experience exceeded expectations. It was a stunning house, with plenty of space and facilities, perfect for large groups! The forest, lake and surrounding greenery were a pleasure to walk around as well. Owner, Russell our host was incredibly generous and helpful, always available via text and even stocked the bar full of beers. I highly recommend it and we will be back!
Oliver's Travels were also very easy to book through and made the entire process a breeze! -
Thank you for a wonderful stay
Well Colleton Hall and East Wing was a truly perfect choice for our large family gathering! There were 16 of us (3 x generations) getting together to celebrate my sisters 40th birthday and it really was splendid! Russell & Richard were so helpful leading up to our holiday, letting us know all the things that we do not need to bring with us! Plenty of toilet rolls, condiments, hand soap, shower gels etc which really reduced what we needed to bring along. My grocery shopping was delivered before we all arrived and put away for us! On arrival, Richard and Russell were there to greet us and could not have been friendlier or more welcoming! By the end of the tour of the house we wanted them to stay with us for the weekend! To top it all off, our wonderful hosts left us a magnum of Prosecco, chocolates and some chilled beers... now that’s how to greet guests! The house is beautiful and stylish, yet cosy and comfortable. We will definitely be going back to Colleton Hall.

Fabulous
It is a lovely property in a fantastic location, beautifully decorated and exceptionally clean. The amazing kitchen was such a sociable space and the separate dining room and lounge were lovely too. Each of the bedrooms were uniquely decorated to a high standard. The grounds and lake were a bonus, and the children thoroughly enjoyed canoeing on the water. The owners couldn’t have been more helpful in the build up to our stay. They recommended local places to visit and even offered to book restaurants on our behalf. We celebrated our father’s 80th birthday and the owners helped us organise the fireworks as a surprise. We would definitely recommend this fabulous property.

Blown away!
My husband booked a trip for our family to Colleton Hall for my 30th birthday, and it was a trip I will always remember. It was nice and easy to get to, and as soon as we arrived, Russell welcomed us in to his beautiful home, and gave us the grand tour. We were blown away by how beautiful the house was, and just how big it was. Russell was so helpful and explained where the best walks were, and how everything in the house worked. It made the stay really enjoyable, because we were made to feel so welcome, and well aquatinted with the house. It is so well equipped, with everything you could need, and more.
We have young children, and for them the trip was like Christmas and birthdays rolled into one. Being able to have all their family under one roof, with room to gallop about and things to explore, was really amazing. They loved spotting the deer in the garden, stomping about in their wellies and rain coats, and getting to sleep in bunk beds. And for the older members of our party, they all felt very comfortable and could access everything they needed easily. Like adjusting temperature and everyone having their own bathrooms.
Another highlight of the trip was our lunch at ‘The Stag’ pub - as recommended and kindly booked by Russell and Richard. It was so close to the house, and we had a fantastic meal there. The owners were really friendly, and accommodating to our varying dietary requirements. The food was brilliant, and it was really warm and cosy in there.
Our family always seemed to congregate in the main kitchen, and there was plenty of space for everyone. Being in there first thing in the morning, with a hot cup of tea, watching the Deer and stag wonder across, was the best way to start the day.
We just really loved this trip - and wouldn’t hesitate to book again in the near future. Can’t recommend it enough. -
We will be back
We have just returned from a week's stay at Colleton Hall with an extended family group of 10 people ranging in ages from 7 to 87 and we had the most AMAZING time! We have taken an annual family holiday together in various different locations but always in large houses for the last 15 years and Colleton Hall is without doubt the most spectacular property we have ever stayed in. The house is beautiful - enormous and grand but also cosy and really comfortable. It has been beautifully renovated and the owners have thought of everything - a really well stocked kitchen, pool and table football for the kids, board games for the older generations, sonos throughout the house and a baby grand piano for the musically minded, televisions in every room, beautiful en suite bathrooms - the list goes on!
And the grounds are simply stunning - a huge expansive garden which our children adored, a lake with a two man canoe which provided hours of fun and private woodlands which seemed to go on and on - this is the English countryside at its absolute best!
The owners are delightful and so so helpful - from booking the (WONDERFUL) local pub (the Stag Inn) for us for a couple of meals during our stay, to unpacking an online supermarket shop, welcoming us with prosecco and chocolates and providing tons of really helpful information about the local area, Russell and Richard couldn't have done more to ensure that we had a great stay.
There is tons to do in the local area - you're spoilt for choice for beaches within an hour - we had a great day out at Woolacombe beach and loved Knightshayes National Trust house and garden - a fascinating gothic property with glorious grounds with a brilliant maze trail for the children. We also did a circular walk at Tarr Steps - a spectacular nature reserve with an ancient stone bridge in Exmoor - only half an hour away.
I cannot recommend this place enough - we will definitely be back! Thank you Russell and Richard for a wonderful holiday. -
Wonderful
I wanted to let you know that we had a wonderful time at Colleton Hall, a beautiful house which felt like a luxury hotel. In the bedrooms and bathrooms, the attention to detail and care was so clear, they were a delight.
The kitchen, dining areas and sitting room were perfect for all our different needs and moods. The large kitchen and pantry were ideal for our group and made cooking and eating together a real joy. In the library there was the joy of a fascinating range of books that could have kept us busy for the whole visit. Around the house we all commented on the artwork, again a fascinating range of styles and artists.
The Sonos system in every room was such a bonus, everyone downloaded the app and we had music on tap to meet every taste, which was deeply appreciated by the younger members of our group. The extensive grounds, fields and the woods were ideal for our two dogs, who had a ball as between us we spent hours throwing balls and sticks. The lake and the canoe were well used, an activity which did become a bit competitive for younger members of our group!
We were lucky to meet our hosts Russell and Richard, they could not have made us any more welcome. Overall, a fabulous house in a wonderful setting, thank you for helping us discover it. -
Superb!
We recently spent a long weekend at Colleton Hall. There were 14 in our party ranging from ages 1 to 92 and everyone had a superb time.
The accommodation is both elegant and functional. It has all the sophistication of a large Georgian residence with a sweeping staircase and generous room sizes ,but it has been so tastefully renovated that in terms of modern conveniences you could be renting an up market ultra modern house. Unusually for a holiday rental property, no expense has been spared in the renovations. Everything is in good taste, from the tiles throughout the ground floor, to the fittings in the bathrooms and all three kitchens. My 25 year old nephew said having a bath in the main bathroom overlooking the grounds will be a memory that will stay with him for a long time. The rooms are complemented by the carefully chosen art, many beautiful objects and vases of fresh flowers.
And then there are the grounds. All I can say is wow. The lake is magical. The young members of the party, as well as taking the canoe out, had a swim in the lake. We took the opportunity of walking through the woods that are also owned by Colleton and just loved the peace and tranquility.
Finally, being greeted by the owners of Colleton, Russell and Richard, in such a warm way set the weekend off to a great start. The fact they left the fridges stocked with beers (which I am sure the youngsters in the party used) as well as top class champagne (which we ensured was not touched) shows just how far they will go to try and give their guests a first class experience. We used the chef from DineIndulge for the meal on the Saturday evening and, this too, was a success.
I would definitely recommend Colleton to anyone wanting a large, beautiful and sophisticated house in a rural setting. The consensus was that it was the best standard we have ever rented. -
New Years Break
We had a perfect time at this lovely house set in rolling countryside. We partied with our friends and family at New Year and I can honestly say that it was one of the best times, such a warm friendly house with charming rooms, plenty of bathrooms, super kitchen(s) and views of the lake and the fields beyond. There are plenty of country walks nearby, ideal for us and all our dogs, we had 5 dogs with us in total and because of the sheer size of the place it really was no problem at all to accommodate us all with our all boots, clothes and belongings. The owners of the property are very genial and welcoming and were on hand next door in case of any issues and for guidance of where to go, they recommended a marvellous little pub in the village nearby. Would definitely recommend for a family get together.

Unreservedly recommended
From the moment we stepped through the doors at Colleton Hall, we knew we were very lucky to be staying somewhere so special.
It was late autumn and log fires crackled in the huge fireplaces in the large, beautifully-fitted kitchen and the spacious drawing room, making the first impression one of warmth and welcome.
The owners, who, surprisingly are not interior designers, have lovingly restored this gem of a small, 'stately home' with incredible flair and attention to authentic detail, whilst including the modern time-saving luxuries we all don't want to live without when on holiday. Each of the six tastefully-decorated bedrooms has its own en-suite bathroom with high-end fittings and a hot water system that ensures no one goes without a decent shower!
Outside, there is plenty of parking in the gravel driveway. Beyond the house, a terrace gives way to the gardens which reach down to a lake and out to woods and fields - ideal settings for barbecues, walks and picnics.
This is a perfect place for a relaxing holiday - or long weekend - away from the fast pace of city life, but close enough to a good pub, restaurant and amenities - if you can bear to drag yourselves away from the beauty and comfort of the Hall. We loved it so much, we've already booked to go back with our family this Summer. -
Booked to return next year!
Colleton Hall is a really special place. I booked a few days over October half term as it offered easy access to the M5, Exeter and the beaches of the North Devon coast, as well as various hiking trails through Exmoor. I couldn't have been more delighted, it was like having our own country manor for the weekend. Beautifully decorated, all the rooms have incredible views over the Devon countryside, we had plenty of space inside and out, and my three children loved having the run of the estate, including their own forest to explore. I'm a travel journalist by trade and regularly write hotel and destination reviews for national newspapers and our weekend in Devon was one of my highlights of the year so much so that I've booked the family in to return again next year (Metro, Telegraph, Express, Guardian, Family Traveller)

Delightful...
Colleton was a delightful space for our family and friends gathering - modern kitchen with high ceilings and large windows, elegant dining room, cosy drawing room with piano and open fire. The boot room was great for the dogs - a room in itself and great for kicking off the boots after walking through the woods and over the private grounds. Enjoyed the week in style and comfort. Thank you.

Wow!
Booked Colleton Hall for a 40th birthday weekend who are also a bunch of die hard Exeter Chiefs fans. Colleton is only half an hour from Sandy Park so we were able to celebrate in an idyllic location and see the Chiefs have a home win! Colleton is pure luxury, has stunning grounds to wander around in and the owners are fantastic hosts.

Magic!
Colleton Hall had all the magic of an exciting and adventurous book. Surrounded by the most beautiful countryside landscape, it also felt as though I had stepped into a painting that had come alive! For the week I spent at Colleton, it felt as though I had experienced what the real world should be like.

Family reunion
We had a huge family reunion at Colleton Hall – an absolutely stunning house and grounds to stay in. Coming from Australia, it was an absolute delight to walk around the private woods and we even got to see a herd of red deer. The hosts were a pleasure to deal with and made sure our stay was hassle free. I would recommend Colleton Hall for a long relaxing break and to take in the beautiful Devon countryside and rugged North Coast. Exeter was close by and fun to visit too.

So much fun!
Loved our time at Colleton - leaving the adults while we explored the woods, swam in the freshwater lake and played pool. The surround sound system was amazing and there were loads of USBs in the bedrooms and around the house with a good wifi signal - although we spent more time away from the phones and internet exploring the grounds and having our own fun spotting deer.

Memories!
Fabulous memories made at Colleton Hall – idyllic countryside. Exterior is imposingly beautiful and inside is no less impressive, super stylish and contemporary blending with original features and gothic arches – you know you are somewhere incredibly special. With a glass of champagne in hand you can’t help feeling like a movie star sweeping down the grand staircase into the wonderful hall. Fantastic weekend with family and friends and teenagers – who actually put their phones away, donned their wellies and loved walking the dogs through this private estate and playing in the canoe on the lake. We will definitely be back!

Amazing time
We had an amazing time at Colleton Hall. The house is just magnificent and comfortable with great views. We had endless beautiful and peaceful walks. I woke up every morning to the sounds of the birds and at sunset we saw deer a few times during our stay. The hosts were incredible – warm, friendly and with exquisite taste. We went for a 50th birthday of a family member and it was SENSATIONAL with fireworks too. Our hosts went the extra mile to make us feel welcome and to make us feel at home. We are grateful for an unforgettable experience.

The perfect place to get away from it all!
Colleton Hall is peaceful, beautiful, away from it all and a sanctuary of note. Hosts are hospitable and consider every whim. Can’t wait to come back.
