At the front of the house, you will discover beautifully decorated dining and living rooms. The living room comes in soft grey, white and ivory tones adding a sense of calm. Sumptuous sofas make for a restful space and the fire adds a crackling atmosphere. In deep red, the dining room is warm and inviting. Also boasting a gorgeous period fireplace, it is the perfect spot for a celebratory feast. Gorgeous vintage dressers and an enormous dining table complete this elegant picture. The rear of the house enjoys smaller beamed rooms. The smart hallway leads to a convenient downstairs toilet, a cute snug, the perfect place for a quiet read of the Sunday newspapers and a cup of tea and the wonderfully warm kitchen. The inviting country kitchen is beautifully fitted with gorgeous wooden cabinetry, excellent appliances including a range cooker and a long farmhouse kitchen table and chairs. To the front of the kitchen, you will discover the enormous garden games room with wide doors to the terrace. Guests enjoy friendly competition with table tennis, table football and darts in this room.
Above the living and dining rooms there are two enormous bedrooms, both with lavish king-size beds, stunning ensuite bathrooms and expansive views down the valley which will entice your gaze. With exquisite, wallpapered feature walls, high-quality furnishings and opulent drapes, the rooms are elegant and very classy. Crisp cottons, luxury duvets and throws ensure that you will dive deep into some serious shuteye. The two masters epitomise luxury holiday living and you will be forgiven for thinking you are in a boutique hotel. Between these two rooms there is a small, delightful single room which enjoys the same panoramic view.
At the back of Wild Pear House, you will enjoy a delightful oak beamed, marble lined family bathroom with a gorgeous roll top bath and a walk-in shower. There are a further two bedrooms here, both with comfy twin beds. One of the rooms can be set up with a super king-size bed. They are utterly charming rooms with pitched ceilings, ancient beams and beautiful decoration.
The private south facing terrace and lawn offers a hot tub with a view, a barbecue, alfresco dining space, sun loungers, a chimney for chilly evenings and colourful plants and flowers. It is very pretty. You just need to chill some fizz and get ready for that dip at sunset! Wild Pear House is located on the edge of Exmoor’s Dark Sky Reserve, so the night stars are incredible. You will feel the tranquillity fold around you as you relax and unwind in peace and quiet.
The resort swimming pool is wonderful, and you can relax on smart cradle rope weave seats and day beds. The pool building offers changing rooms, toilets, and showers. The games room offers table football, table tennis and a soft play area for little ones. The resort sits in its own pretty valley with sixteen acres of grounds sprinkled with lush lawns, gardens, sunken nature trails, ponds, meadows, an orchard, streams, an extensive kitchen garden and a greenhouse where you can pick yourselves something fresh and tasty to go with your alfresco dinner. As you wander through this wonderful estate, you will hear owls hoot and the wind whispering through the boughs of the oaks. You are welcome to bring your furry friends and enjoy the five acres of dog walking field for off lead enjoyment or a favourite local dog walk to the charming dog friendly pub, the Hunters at Heddons Valley. There are over fifty animals on the estate and children enjoy helping out at feeding times. Beautiful peacocks wander around the grounds when not nesting, the free-range chickens supply eggs and cute ducks live on three ponds. There is a small herd of alpacas, four pygmy goats, sheep, super cute piglets, guinea pigs and orphan lambs in the spring for children to bottle feed. Children adore the outdoor playground with its amazing wooden pirate ship with decks, a tunnel, ship’s wheel, plank and sand pit. The two storey wendy house is perfect for little ones with a built-in kitchen, furniture, and a verandah. There is also a wooden tractor, a slide, trampoline, swings, slides and a climbing frame. You will be lucky if you see your children with all of this! Throughout the estate there are some wonderful views with lovely lounge furniture so that you can relax, captivated by the views with a sneaky bottle of chilled wine. The Lookout is one of these, also a perfect spot for early morning meditation or yoga. The huge one and half meter fire pit with benches is wonderful for sing songs and making marshmallow memories. Location
About the surrounding area of Wild Pear HouseWild Pear House enjoys a superb location on an exclusive resort near Combe Martin in north Devon. It is a fabulous seaside resort with dreamy sandy coves, some of the UK’s best rock pools and a fantastic selection of cafes, unique shops, pubs, and restaurants. The fish and chips are delicious! Combe Martin hosts many events celebrating its heritage and quirks including its annual Hunting of the Earl of Rone ceremony, a Pagan festival. The wonderful Southwest Coast Path runs through the village offering astonishing views and access to beaches and beauty spots that you may not otherwise see. You can hike to Great Hangman, the tallest sea cliff in Britain or take the two hundred and thirty steps down the Golden Cove. You can enjoy the the calm waters of the bay on a boat, kayak, or stand-up paddle board.
The beaches in this wonderful area are quite extraordinary. Wild Pear Beach and Broadsands Beach are two of the most beautiful, secret coves. Wild Pear is reached via a dramatic descent from the coast path and is an idyllic, protected cove. Broadsands Beach was recently voted the ‘Happiest View in the UK’ with its special curved bay, turquoise sea, rock caves and trees. A network of tunnels hand-carved in the early nineteenth century lead to the wonderful Tunnels Beaches with their Victorian tidal swimming pool and sand and shingle private beaches. Barricane Beach boasts exotic shells, a delightful cafe, and glorious sunsets. Lee Bay is a fabulously secluded spot looking out to the Bristol Channel. It is often called ‘Fuchsia Valley’ due to its bright red flowers. Woolacombe Beach is a three-mile-long sandy wonder that has been voted the ‘Best Beach in Britain’ and it is only twenty minutes from the resort. Putsborough Sands are on the south side of Woolacombe offering glorious surf and views of the headland. Just around the Baggy Point headland is the very pretty village of Croyde with its famous surfing beach. Backing the fabulous Saunton Sands is the impressive Braunton Burrows, a UNESCO biosphere reserve.
Coasteering is a popular thrilling sport with many experienced Coasteering and Adventure Sports companies operating at Watermouth Harbour, the next bay along from Combe Martin. Brave participants enjoy climbing over dramatic rocks, jumping into the sea, swimming through gullies and exploring caves. Horse riding on Exmoor is also popular with the Dean Riding Stables.
The National Trust’s Arlington Court and Carriage Museum is a great day out with formal Victorian gardens, ponds, deer, plenty of space for picnics and an impressive collection of horse-drawn vehicles. It is a gem on the edge of Exmoor that has been in the Chichester family for over five hundred years. The gardens enjoy herbaceous borders, a fountain, walled kitchen garden and a conservatory brimming with exotic plants from around the world. There are pleasure grounds with gorgeous views, a wilderness pond and a deer park wood. The old kitchen tearoom is lovely and offers tasty treats. There is also an excellent second-hand bookshop. Watersmeet is a dramatic river gorge and ancient woodland with a National Trust tearoom set in stunning surroundings. You can treat yourselves to delicious Devon cream teas and be captivated by the amazing landscapes and woodland trails.
Twelve miles away, the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway opened in 1890 and is an excellent way to enjoy the wonderful coastal views between the two villages. Another popular trip is to Lundy Island which lies ten nautical miles off the coast. The ferry leaves from Ilfracombe Harbour taking you to this delightful island with its wildlife, big skies, and gorgeous scenery.
The pretty, historic fishing village of Clovelly is worth a stop. It was once owned by the Queen of England and clings to the four-hundred-foot cliff where there is no traffic. Steep cobbled streets tumble down to its ancient fishing harbour and 14th century quay.

A beautiful house
We stayed at this beautiful house in late September 2024 as a family of 9 plus baby. Beautiful views and lots to do even if the weather is wet. The soft play area and indoor swimming pool came into its own for our toddler. There is a really good outdoor area with trampoline, tractor and lovely large Wendy house to name a few.

Return visit
We all had yet another great week at Wild Pear House. All 3 generations found it provided all that we needed for a wonderful week. Alice and her team are to be congratulated on the way their properties get better and better.
Sad faces on leaving, but we will return! -
Great place for the little ones...
Three families shared two properties (Wild Pear House & Sandy bay Cottage) and a great time was had by all - especially the under fives, for whom the play areas, swimming pool and interaction with the farm animals were the highlights.
-
Excellent holiday
The location was lovely and the views beautiful. We enjoyed having a BBQ on the patio overlooking the beautiful scenery. The children (a 3 year old and a 10 month old) loved the play park, the animals and the swimming pool, plenty to keep them amused for hours!
The free range peacock was lovely although one of our party has a bird phobia so it was a little awkward at times!!
The honesty shop was a lovely touch especially in the first couple of days when you are settling in. -
Family Easter break
The whole family enjoyed our stay in Wild Pear House. Plenty of room and lovely cottage. The children enjoyed the pool and hot tub along with the games room in the cottage itself. No hesitation in going again in the future.

One weeks family stay to celebrate a 60th Birthday
Beautiful home in a fantastic location. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Wild Pear House. Alice and team were brilliant. We managed to see some beautiful sights as well as having the most lovely relaxed nights in the house. The site caters for all ages and has a really nice homely feel to it. We would 100% recommend staying here. Thank you for the most perfect stay.

A fabulous holiday home for a group
The Wild Pear House proved to be a perfect place for a three generational family holiday with flexible bedroom space and two beautiful formal reception rooms as well as it's own much used games room with a table tennis and table football table. As one of seven holiday lets in the grounds it also benefitted from a range of other activities - including the hot tub on the terrace, the swimming pool, beautiful hilly grounds with hidden playground and sports areas and perhaps for us the "piece de resistance" - the opportunity to enjoy and feed the animals each day. Perhaps the thing that made this holiday home refreshingly different was the attitude of the owner, Alice, and the maintenance manager, Roy, - who both went out of the way to make sure that we had everything we needed throughout our stay.

A brilliant week in North Devon
We had a wonderful week in the Wild Pear House. The facilities were excellent. Our grandchildren enjoyed the playground enormously. With such warm weather the swimming pool was also much in demand. The surrounding countryside with its beaches was fantastic. My best memory - rock pooling at Combe Martin!

Family break
The Wild Pear House was a perfect venue for our family break (5 adults, 2 babies, 2 toddlers and 2 dogs!), the house and grounds had everything we could wish for and more! The pool, play areas and animals ticked the box for the children and the hot tub, comfy beds and stunning views for the adults, perfect

An Idyllic Place
Our second stay, this time with our adult children and their young families (sharing the Wild Pear House)
Plenty of space for us all in this quality property, and lots of facilities on site to enjoy. A peaceful and relaxing stay. -
A perfect Easter break
An ideal property for our 3 generation Easter break in a beautiful quiet location. We all very much enjoyed the indoor swimming pool, hot tub and table tennis table and the little ones loved feeding the animals. The owner and staff were very friendly and helpful and we hope to make a return visit.

Great holiday
The Wild Pear House is absolutely beautiful, spacious, extremely well equipped and furnished and comfortable. The children had a great time with the animals, the lambs and the alpacas were big hits. Alice was very welcoming and recommended local restaurants, we especially enjoyed the Kentisbury Grange, the food was good plus it was dog friendly as were all the local restaurants and pubs. Wayne came to cook for us on our last evening which was a fitting end to an enjoyable holiday. We’ll certainly be back. Very envious of Alice waking up to the stunning view across the valley every day. Missing it already, our granddaughter cried when we left, she’s planning to return as soon as possible.

Holiday with family
Excellent location with stunning views and all the amenities you would wish for. The house was comfortable, clean and very well equipped for the family stay. Access and parking was easy and there was a large sitting area outside the property with jacuzzi and barbeque - ideal for the evenings. Rooms were all of a good size and ideal for all the family. An enjoyable and relaxing stay with helpful on-site owners. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone for a relaxing break.

Great stay
First family holiday. Didn’t disappoint. The house was lovely. Getting down the lane to the house was a little trying but overall lovely time. Animals and facilities were great the grandchildren loved it

A wonderful week staying at The Wild Pear House & The Broadsands Farmhouse
This was our second visit to the Wild Pear House & The Broadsands Farmhouse with our extended family of 8 adults and 5 children. The houses are both very clean, well designed & comfortable. Alice the new owner was very welcoming and helpful. There is everything on site a family needs - the indoor swimming pool (a great favourite) hot tubs, games room, outside play areas and animals to enjoy. The children and grown ups always enjoy table tennis in the games room in the house. There is plenty of space for children to run around safely and go on walks outside. We loved eating outside in front of the house. This year the owners have collaborations with local providers and we have a great 3 course meal from Wayne, an outstanding chef and treatments from Hannah a really good masseur. The beaches nearby are great; Barricane (with a super beach hut providing food and drinks) with lots of rock pools to explore, Putsborough a lovely sandy beach at the far end of Woolacombe so is quieter and far less busy, Woody Bay is well worth a visit as it is spectacular and usually deserted. All in all a family paradise.

The perfect family holiday
If there's ever a perfect English holiday, this is it! The Wild Pear House, a classic but cosy building, looks out over well kept gardens, down to paddocks and ponds where chickens, ducks and alpacas wander all day, and beyond to the lush rolling hills of Devon, where the sun sets (if you're lucky enough to get it!) while you sit in the hot tub with your cuppa or cocktail.
It's just 10 minutes drive to calm coves and sandy inlets you've never have heard of, where you can swim and paddle board, and half an hour's drive to the great surf beaches of Woolacombe etc (but get there before 10 if you want to be sure of a car parking space). And should the unthinkable happen and it rains, there's the indoor pool and games room.
The house is well equipped and feels like you're staying in a friend's home, with comfy bedrooms, modern clean bathrooms and a big country style kitchen, next to which is the table tennis room where many a competition took place.
One part of our family, with a 10 month baby, took the smaller Sandy Bay Cottage, which gave them space, and was just 20 steps from the main house, so close enough for baby monitor to work.
Best of all are the owners who run it as if you're truly guests in their home, with Alice invariably somewhere looking after the animals, veggie patch (to which you can help yourself) and guests.
We all said we want to go back as soon as possible, and we will... many thanks for a great holiday! perfect family holiday -
Excellent facilities, gorgeous house great host
Excellent house, the setting was stunning. The facilities were lovely and really great for our 1 year old who loved the daily animal feeding and swimming pool. Alice and her team could not do enough to help make out stay relaxing and enjoyable. Highly recommend staying here

Everything we hoped it would be
We were six adults so more than enough room for all of us but plenty to spare. Couldn't fault the Wild Pear House for facilities or comfort. The games room, hot tub & BBQ were well used & just what we needed. The separate pool was an added bonus with the booking arrangements simple to use with plenty of available slots (but we were there outside of the school holidays). Alice was a perfect host making sure we settled in ok.
We would have no hesitation in returning for another stay & would definitely recommend to others. -
Return
Wild Pear House was ideal for our family - from 18 months to 82! The house was very well equipped; lovely comfortable beds, towels provided, good quality baby equipment. The pool was clean, uncluttered and accessible, the hot tub a real hit. Surrounding grounds were well maintained as was the children’s play area. Everyone enjoyed the variety of animals in the beautifully maintained farm area.
Lovely weather was a bonus - alfresco dining facilities were ideal and at no time were we stuck for things to do. This was our second visit and there may well be a third, a great time was had by all! -
Perfect family stay!
We had an amazing weekend at Wild Pear House. If you like the ancient style this is the perfect place to stay. Our kids enjoyed all the facilities over there, from feeding the baby lambs to indoor heated pool which was all for us(booking made each day because of Covid-19)they even made new friends over there! We had everything we needed for a perfect family break!
The family who is running over the business is very friendly and makes you feel very welcome from the start of your holiday, we will definitely book again! -
Our fifth stay!!
We yet again enjoyed a great holiday staying in the Wild Pear House and Sandy Bay cottage. The swimming pool booking system worked well, and the few Covid restrictions didn’t impair our stay.
In Andrew’s absence we were well looked after by Roy, who is always friendly and on hand.
The property is a wonderful family holiday experience, and has given us so many happy memories. Thank you.
