It is no wonder that this captivating area has enticed filmmakers, poets, authors and artists for centuries, with visitors allured by the sweeping golden beaches, grand historic houses, cobblestone market towns and idyllic country pubs.
All around the Lakeside Estate and scattered down the Jurassic Coast there are picturesque towns to visit. From the breezy coastal town of Poole to the rich history of Dorchester and the picture postcard vistas of Lyme Regis. The Estate itself is located amidst the rugged beauty of this area, in the environs of West Dorset. Formerly the site of RAF Warmwell, the Estate boasts a rich history, offering a breath-taking space combining unspoilt nature, beautiful wildlife, and modern luxuries, so you can leave all worries behind, settling in for a holiday of complete relaxation.
Enjoying the great outdoors is all part of a stay at the Lakeside Estate, with waterways to discover, cycle pathways to relish and the rolling Dorset Countryside to explore. Whether you want to hop in a kayak, canoe, paddleboard or bike, there is something for everyone, it is a real of hub of activity! The Estate’s tennis court and 3G artificial-turf Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) in Beaumont Village offer the perfect facilities for a quick knock-about or a lively game of five-a-side football with friends and family. The views from the courts over Beaumont Lake are gorgeous, making for a tricky distraction when you are trying to hit a winning shot!
Lowland heathland is one of Britain’s most important habitats for wildlife conservation. The outer Heath is a SNCI (Site of Nature Conservation Interest) and it supports an unbelievable range of plants, birds, insects and mammals making it a remarkable place for wildlife spotting. For those eager to get close to nature, there are hundreds of acres to explore, with woodlands and hedgerows sheltering this diverse array of native wildlife. You can explore down the waterways, or by foot or bike making the most of the vast network of private footpaths.
After a busy day immersed in nature, the Estate Spa is the perfect respite. The spa has been designed to offer a tranquil sanctuary of stress-free indulgence and ultimate relaxation! There is an outdoor pool, roof terrace, sauna, gym, library and a ‘restful relaxation’ lounge for some post treatment ‘you’ time. Of course, no holiday is complete without a satisfied appetite. Your holiday home offers its own kitchen for home cooked delicacies, or for a night off, there are plenty of options within the Estate and in the surrounding towns. The Hurricane Terrace and Bar is located on the roof terrace of the spa, offering bespoke cocktails inspired by the area and a variety of snacks and small plates if you are feeling peckish. The Estates traditional handmade yurt offers the perfect spot for a lazy afternoon, with an outdoor woodfired pizza oven which is often fired up by expert chefs to provide the tastiest authentic woodfired pizza using the freshest local ingredients. Region
Pack your bags and fasten your seatbelts, as Oliver's Travels is thrilled to present a dazzling array of luxury holiday properties in the enchanting land of Dorset! A captivating county where time seems to stand still, Mother Nature has outdone herself. Dorset, with the rolling hills of the Dorset Downs and the jaw-dropping Jurassic Coast, is a real-life tapestry of postcard-perfect landscapes, historic landmarks and villages oozing charm in lavish abundance.
The Jurassic Coast is not just a coastline, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Dorset's showstopping features. Stretching an impressive 95 miles from Orcombe Point in East Devon to Old Harry Rocks near Swanage, this coastline presents endless coastal wonders. Dramatic cliffs, hidden coves and beaches boasting ancient fossils, Charmouth and Lyme Regis are the treasure chests for fossil hunters and curious minds alike.
Dorset is also a playground for history buffs, with landmarks like Corfe Castle standing tall and proud. Perched on a hill, this fortress offers far-reaching, breathtaking views. The Cerne Abbas Giant is a colossal chalk figure etched into a hillside near the village of Cerne Abbas, Dorset's own friendly giant, captivating visitors for centuries.
Dorchester, the county town, is a delightful mishmash of Georgian architecture and markets that buzz with life. Thomas Hardy's Cottage, near Dorchester, gives you a peek into the life of the literary legend himself. Bridport, with its bohemian vibes and eclectic street markets, is like the cool kid in the market town crew. Meanwhile, Weymouth's golden sandy beach and bustling harbour are perfect for leisurely strolls and exploring historic Nothe Fort. For a touch of seaside nostalgia, Swanage brings the Victorian pier and a heritage steam railway into the mix.
The Isle of Purbeck is a haven of beauty, featuring Lulworth Cove's sheltered bay and crystal-clear waters. Just around the corner, Durdle Door, a natural limestone arch, sets the stage for coastal walks and views so stunning, they might bring a tear to your eye. For the adventurers among us, the Dorset Downs, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, are calling. Hiking trails such as the South West Coast Path and the Wessex Ridgeway offer a rollercoaster ride through diverse scenery, from cliffs to heathlands.
Dorset's culinary scene is a delightful fusion of tradition and modernity. You will savour local produce at farmers' markets, indulge in fresh seafood along the coast and let the county's pubs and tearooms be your warm and welcoming retreat for traditional cream teas or a sip of local ales.
Dorset is an experience that seamlessly blends history, natural beauty and that quintessential British charm. It promises an adventure that captures the very essence of England's southwest.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesDorset has been a popular holiday location for families for years past. The rugged coastline, golden sandy beaches and outstanding natural beauty make it feel like one large playground for kids to enjoy and the Lakeside Estate only emphasises this.
The Estate has been designed with families in mind, with plenty to enjoy for kids and adults alike. There are four fantastic playground areas for them to revel in, and treasure hunts around the estate, so you can enjoy the spa whilst they run wild and free!
The Estate boasts hundreds of acres to explore, with woodlands and hedgerows overflowing with wildlife. You can explore via waterways, taking kids on paddle boards, or in canoes and kayaks, adding a little education into the fun as they spot vibrant birds and native plants, between falling in and out of the water! Private footpaths wind around these picturesque grounds, so you can all hop on bikes for active adventures or watch kids running ahead as you indulge in a long walk.
The island, which is tucked away amongst the untouched foliage of the Warmwell Heathland, offers a haven for the whole family. This secret gem in the woods creates a beautiful, secluded spot for children to run free and adults to be at one with nature. Children can climb, slide and zip-line through the trees, whilst you enjoy a gripping novel or take a relaxing swim in the eco-pool. Bike routes and walking trails connect this secluded area to the Estate, although we can already guess that you might never want to leave!
The Airstream kid’s area is brilliant for families. A beautiful silver Airstream has been transformed into a cosy reading and play area for kids so both you and your little ones can wind down after all the active adventures on offer.
