Location
About the surrounding area of Malvern EstateThe Malvern Estate holds a magnificent location set within Worcestershire countryside close to the foot of the Malvern Hills, just minutes outside the village of Alfrick, while a wider variety of helpful amenities can be found in Malvern Spa less than 15 minutes away. While the Estate offers guests the chance to completely unwind and escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, city dwellers can relax in the knowledge that the medieval city of Worcester is less than half an hour away. The Estate also makes an ideal base for those travelling for the Cheltenham Races, being located 45 mins from the racecourse, while it has excellent travel links with the M5 just 15 minutes away and Birmingham Airport being conveniently situated just an hour’s drive away.
On the farm estate itself, there are plenty of activities to keep guests entertained. Explore and embrace the nature around you, by strolling through the meadows and woodlands with your family and friends. The more adventurous people might climb a tree or build a den in the woods, learn bushcraft, go wild camping in a safe and private environment, swim wild in the lake, paddleboard or drift by on the boat.
Alternatively, you might want to get more involved in the regenerative farmwork. Take a guided tour of the farm, and learn about the intricate relationship between livestock, plants and the soil, and how this benefits the wider biodiversity and whole environment we live in. Watch the cattle and sheep being moved, and see them dive in to their new daily salad bar with gusto. Help plant a new orchard, a hedgerow, or perhaps assist in laying a hedge, and building wildlife corridors! Inspire the next generation by giving your children the opportunity to have hands on experiences with lambing, feeding the chickens and pigs, sheep dog training, foraging for wild garlic, mushrooms, nuts and collecting eggs on the way home for breakfast.

Owner Profile

Ian and Rosanna Horsley
How long have you owned the property?
We bought the estate in July 2017
What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
We were looking for a small estate set in beautiful countryside. When we found the Malvern Estate it was love at first sight. The view of the stunning Elizabethan property hit us as soon as we travelled down the driveway, and with its private setting by the lake in its own valley we were hooked. It is a real privilege to be custodians of this very special place.
Do you have a favourite room in the property?
We really struggle to narrow it down. Rosanna loves the Peacock suite in Little Hall for its epic bathroom, bamboo mural loo and custom hand painted four poster bed. Ian’s favourite room is the original Hall house sitting room with its huge open fire and wooden beams. This seems to be where people love to gather for an evening of whisky and putting the world to rights!
For anyone coming to stay is there anything in the surrounding area they should...
Really do?
The great outdoors options here are really accessible. Exploring the Estate on one of the many walks available, a good cross country walk to the pub or if it is a nice sunny day we are right on the doorstep of the Malvern Hills. We love a Malvern Hill walk followed by a good cream tea!
Really eat?
When available in season the Estates own Grass Fed Lamb and Hogget should be tried. You can really taste the difference with slowly matured grass fed meat.
Really see?
The wildlife is amazing here, the woodpeckers, muntjac deer, the resident heron, our peacocks and guinea fowl, the wild ducks on the lakes, and even feeding the monster sized carp in the lake! Or just watch our sheep contentedly grazing in the meadows.
What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
Worcestershire is relatively undiscovered and often gets overlooked for other more popular tourist or coastal locations in the UK. There are so many great things to see and do, and you are far less likely to spend you holiday in queues or traffic. It is also easy to get to from many parts of the country. Everyone who comes to stay here, wants to come again.

Something out of a dream
Just returned from a family holiday here and wow, what an amazing place, like something out of a dream. The house itself is really something special; the bedrooms and other spaces are all top notch.
Outside the 'estate' is huge and you are free to roam with the sheep and ducks! There are tennis courts, a lake with rowing boat and paddle board, areas to just chill and read with a glass of vino and great places for an outside BBQ.
If you want to escape to the pub (like me), there is a beautiful walk along the Worcester way to a lovely little local that sells great beer and food.
Anyway back to the review! Rosanna and team are great hosts that are on hand for anything you could need, we also had a very special dinner one evening hosted by a chef and company who came and did everything for us even the washing up.
So, if you want somewhere to retreat to with some good friends and/or family then you have found it!
It would be amazing to come back here some day in the future.

The house was spectacular with amazing furnishings
Had the most amazing stay at Malvern estate with 19 family members. The hosts Rosanna and Ian catered to our every need and were on hand to answer any questions we had - whether about the house or farm life in general! The house was spectacular with amazing furnishings and it felt both luxurious and comfortable at the same time. The surroundings were picture perfect and we enjoyed taking a walk to the pub and admiring the views on the way. We would truly recommend this house to anyone looking to spend quality time with family or friends.

Some of the best places we have stayed in around the world
Just retuned from a four day stay at Baston Hall to celebrate my wife’s birthday with the rest of our family.
Wow! What a fantastic place and such a great setting. We literally did not leave the estate from the time we arrived.......why would you!?
The main house and annex are decorated to the highest standard and equipped with everything you could possibly need. The decor is just stunning and the beds were heaven!
The grounds were beautiful and we had full use of the lake; tennis court; table tennis and fields.
On one evening we hired in a private chef as recommended by Rosanna and Ian and again, this surpassed all expectations.....a truly amazing experience and top top food!
We are already thinking about when we can next visit this gem of a place, up there with some of the best places we have stayed in around the world!

Highly recommended for family get aways
Recently had my wedding and rented out Malvern Estate for a week for both sides of the family (15 people) and, wow, I cannot explain how beautiful and amazing the property is.
The rooms were amazing, clean, and beautiful.
The grounds are expansive and so well maintained!
It was such a great week away in the country side to unwind and celebrate our special week.
I cannot say thank you to the host enough.
Highly recommended for family get aways -
Idyllic!
What a wonderful find!
Having had to reschedule due to unexpected circumstances, our family’s spring break last weekend was idyllic.
New calves, ducklings and fresh eggs, one could not ask for more but, paddle boarding, tennis, boules, ping pong and giant jenga kept us all busy. The house was sumptuous with everything our party of 17, ranging from 4 to 80, could want.
Thank you to our hosts for your warm welcome. I hope you have an abundance of delighted guest at Malvern Estate.

Wonderful luxurious Elizabethan country home
We had a fantastic Malvern Estate. 16 of us aged from 8 months to 87 years! A family get together which we try to do each year but our first stay at Malvern Estate.
Rosanna and Iain have created a wonderful luxurious Elizabethan country home which we felt totally spoilt to stay in. Set in the most beautiful countryside it has a lake on its doorstep with a rowing boat and paddle boards to use. The main house with 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms, snug, dining room and huge lounge each has its own charm. The stable block close by has 3 further bedrooms and 3 bathrooms all of these were absolutely stunning.
It’s obvious that the owner has impeccable taste, and each rooms furnishings individually thought through, with hand painted walls, and the most delightful fabrics, her attention to detail can be seen throughout.
We found Rosanna and Iain attentive when needed, giving us a wonderful family funfilled break away which was totally relaxed. Thank you for such a lovely family long weekend.

Absolute highest standard
From the very first conversation with the owner, I knew that Malvern Estate was somewhere a little more special than your usual country retreats.
Every detail has been thoughtfully considered, every item of furniture and every room decoration has been done the absolute highest standard- it was a pleasure to stay here.
Rosanna was so incredibly helpful, from recommending a private chef to showcasing the properties amazing farm walks- I really could not have been happier with how the weekend went.
We stayed as a group of 17, which in most cases you would find someone drew the short straw- however every room contains a superking bed and the house is more than able to accommodate that many people.
I will stay here again- I have no doubt about it!
Thank you again to Ian & Rosanna for a lovely weekend.

A wonderful stay...
We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful house which provided everything we needed. We didn't let Covid spoil our stay and enjoyed games and home cooking round the large kitchen table. We played many games of tennis, table tennis and croquet and had fun with the boat and paddle board! We went for some lovely walks in the surrounding area. Never left the property as it has so much to offer
We stayed at Malvern Estate over the weekend with a group of friends and had an absolutely lovely time. We never left the property as it has so much to offer - paddle boards, row boat, footpaths all around the properly, lawn games, you name it! Rosanna and her husband were super hosts who set us up with everything we needed upon arrival and was available throughout the weekend for any questions.

Breath-taking views and relaxing atmosphere
It was a perfectly situated expansive home with sweeping views of the lake and woodland and the elevated farmland in the distance. All in all a wonderfully peaceful setting enveloped by idylic countryside. The property feels vast and is finished to the highest standard all round with a lovely homely feel to all areas. Every room that we used was lovely and beautifully tasteful. We found the snug and main lounge area with roaring fireplace and well stocked drinks cabinet a particularly wonderful place to relax after a day traversing the Malvern hills. The local towns and pubs in the Malvern area are full of friendly folk and fabulous food and beers. The Malvern hills are a must do in terms of hilltop wandering and Malvern Estate is the truly perfect setting for being back together and enjoying country living at the highest level after a day out on the walks. Will definitely come back!

A peaceful retreat
Malvern Estate is a beautiful property, with many charming and interesting parts to the house. My favourite thing about Malvern Estate is the outdoors, the remote setting means the fresh air and beautiful countryside are a very welcome change from busy city life. The beautiful Peacock Suite in Little Hall that we stayed in, it was both elegantly decorated and private - a proper retreat.
Walking through the estate fields to the local farm brewery for a couple
of pints was great fun, but the highlight for me was the walk along the
Malvern Hills - challenging but fun walk with some great views along the way.

Had a lot of fun
I liked all the different themes and colours of the rooms especially the ones with the roses and the one with the colourful birds.
I liked exploring in the woods, feeding the guineafowl and running down heart attack hill. I also enjoyed hanging out with the dogs. I had fun
exploring inside and outside. Depending on the time of the year, ask if you can go and visit the lambs in the barn or have a picnic underneath the flower trees. This is a good place for children to come and stay as it is fun, entertaining and there is a lot that you can do. -
Love the house and the animals
Eva liked the bath in her room as it was so big and so warm. She also liked the passion fruit she had for breakfast in the kitchen! Bea loved the teddy, which lived on their bed. They both loved feeding the animals more than anything. They also
enjoyed picking up the peacock feathers on a little hunt in the woods.
It was amazing to see the animals and sheeps, and have a picnic, but avoid the sheep poo in the field! We also saw the lambulance driving in the fields as it was lambing time. It was fun!
