Argyll Country House nestles on a hillside in seven acres of peaceful grounds on the west side of the Kintyre Peninsula in Argyll, easily accessible by air, boat or road. This impressive baronial country house retains a wealth of period features and is set in mature gardens on the edge of the village of Clachan, one of the oldest settlements in Kintrye.
This is the perfect location for a Scottish Wedding/Civil Ceremony, Corporate Team Building/Training Events, a family get-together or a surprise party.
The bar is often a magnet for those just wanting to chat over a drink, while the dining room allows everyone to sit down to a meal together before ceilidh dancing, partying or just enjoying being together in the oak room or upstairs lounge. A new conservatory room overlooking the garden leads straight onto the barbecue area and is a light, bright room in which to relax or enjoy games and activities.
Argyll Country House nestles on a hillside in seven acres of peaceful grounds on the west side of the Kintyre Peninsula in Argyll, easily accessible by air, boat or road. This impressive Victorian country house retains a wealth of period features and is set in mature gardens on the edge of the village of Clachan, one of the oldest settlements in Kintyre.
Argyll Country House has twelve en-suite bedrooms, an additional children’s play/bedroom, three large public rooms, a fully equipped country kitchen, a Victorian dining room and a cosy gun room bar with a wood burning stove. A separate catering kitchen is available should you wish to arrange full or partial catering during your stay and we can provide a list of recommended caterers and sample menus on request. On arrival you will find the house warm with the fires and the stoves set. The rental includes all fuel, bed linen, towels and kitchen accessories together with a small selection of toiletries and cleaning materials. Hairdryers, tea making facilities and hot water bottles are in all rooms. Full laundry and ironing facilities are available for guests’ use.
Your own private bar is left empty for you to stock and run yourselves. There are always at least a few guests who love the novelty of running their own bar! The bar is well equipped and you will find everything you need including ice buckets, cocktail shakers, a bar fridge and glass washer. There are pipes for kegs of real ale and draft beer so ale drinkers can pull their own pints and have their barrel of choice delivered prior to arrival. We are also fully licensed and provide a full bar service and wine list for larger functions where guest numbers exceed 30.
A new conservatory room overlooking the garden leads straight onto the barbecue area and is a light, bright room in which to relax or enjoy games and activities including a 9' pool table.
The large mature garden has a fountain and also offers several options for strolling, relaxing and photo opportunities.

Location
About the surrounding area of Argyll Country HouseThe Kintyre Peninsula is an area of outstanding beauty. It is off the beaten track but only 1-1.5 hour's drive from the tourist hot-spots of Inveraray and Oban. New visitors to Kintyre are often struck by the quiet roads and deserted beaches that offer a true "get away from it all" experience without having to travel hundreds of miles.
The area is popular with outdoor enthusiasts and the house is an ideal base for golf, sailing, surfing, deer stalking, horse riding, walking, cycling, wildlife/bird watching, fishing, whisky tasting, diving, painting and photography, as well as exploring local galleries, museums, historic sites, heritage centres and distilleries. There are a number of local golf courses including Machrihanish, the newly opened Machrihanish Dunes, Dunaverty, Carradale, Tarbert and Gigha. The first hole at Machrihanish Golf Club has been voted the best first hole in the world.
For sailors, there is an excellent harbour and sheltered anchorage in Tarbert which also plays host to the annual Tarbert Folk Festival, Tarbert Seafood Festival and several sailing events including the popular Scottish Series. The surrounding area is also well known for its beaches and unspoiled countryside, and the beautiful secluded beach of Dunskeig Bay is just a short walk from the house.
The Cowal Peninsula and the Islands of Gigha, Islay, Jura and Arran are all easily accessed by Ferry Services, which is only a short drive away. There is superb hill walking as well as the newly accessed Kintyre Way; an 86 mile walk opened in 2006 which is divided into sections enabling walkers of all ages and abilities to walk the length and breadth of Kintyre in relative isolation and safety. A scenic walk through Clachan village and up the hill takes you to the remains of an iron age fort and settlement from where there are panoramic views towards Gigha, Islay, Jura, West Loch Tarbert and Ireland. There is excellent sea and loch fishing and Balinakill House has fishing rights for two rods on nearby Loch Ciaran.

Lovely relaxing environment to be together
We had a wonderful stay. The house is large and generous. We had children aging 7-12 and they loved it too. Lots of working fireplaces and baskets of wood. Wonderful kitchen area for mornings with fire. The surrounding area is gorgeous and there are nice walks everywhere..

Perfect
Our extended multigenerational family found Argyll Country House perfect for our get together. The property is clean, well maintained and furnished, with plenty of living/entertainment space and generous bedrooms for all 24 members of our group. Argyll Country House is very comfortable and the owner and team have paid attention to every detail - we particularly liked the beautiful fresh flower arrangements in every room. The gardens are lovely. With a snooker table/table tennis/games/bluetooth speakers the younger generation were happy and we all enjoyed the hot tub and Sky TV/Sports.
Nearby there are some fantastic beaches, walks and places to eat, such as the Skipness Seafood Cabin and The Boat House on Gigha.
We really enjoyed our week here and would thoroughly recommend Argyll Country House. -
A fantastic week in this wonderful house
Such a luxurious house and very helpful staff. The 18 of us had a wonderful week here and couldn't fault the house or the facilities.
-
A truly beautiful and magical place
I almost don't want to leave a review as I want to keep this place a secret! It's a stunning venue, relaxed and comfortable, homely. Yet unique, curious, thoughtful little touches everywhere and luxurious, all at the same time. Recommend using local caterer Val alongside this venue. Facilities and staff are just excellent.

Lovely stay!
Fantastic venue for any kind of get together, brilliant house, full of history and friendly atmosphere, gardens and outdoor space are well maintained.

Perfect for family get-together
We rented the house for a family reunion with ages ranges from 60's to less than 1 year. The house was lovely - felt really grand yet homely at the same time. At one point there were 25 of us in the house but still hard to find anyone. In fact one evening of hide and seek lost one person for 30 minutes after everyone else found. The kintyre penisula is a great location for a family holiday. The beaches are amazing and surfing on Macrihanish beach only 30 minutes away. Day trip to Gigha on short ferry trip is well worth doing and make sure you book the Old Boathouse on Gigha for lunch.
Argyll Country House is well equipped - cant think of anything we needed that wasn't there. -
Special for a family reunion
This house is perfect for a large family reunion in an area of intoxicating beauty.
It is such a spacious home with plenty of beautifully furnished bedrooms and a dining room table that fits 25, which we used several times. Everyone loved the bar and we spent hours in there drinking, playing music and singing. There is a great sitting area outside the house for BBQs and for dining. We loved the mini Highland Games and hired a Ceilidh both of which were fab. Ann and Uta were wonderful hosts. We are already thinking of reasons to return.
Don't miss out! Reserve now and get a full refund if you change your mind within 48hrs.
