Chateaux & Castles Country Estate
Great Value

Pets on Request

This magnificent 15th-century castle offers an unforgettable stay in the Castle Tower & Apartment, poised between the Angus Glens and the unspoiled dune filled coastline of Scotland. It has been home to the Carnegie family, now Dukes of Fife, for over 600 years. Unspoilt nature, luxurious living and an unforgettable array of holiday memories await!

Esk Castle is perfect for every season, with something to do and enjoy all year round. The estate has salmon and sea trout fishing and can offer pheasant shooting in winter months. Ideal for family groups, whether you are fishing, golfing or simply enjoying time together at this spectacular venue, we cannot recommend it enough.

The living spaces are separated into two separate apartments, that can be rented together or separately. Macduff Tower is the first, with ample room for four guests. For couples or a small family, this impressive apartment boasts a panorama of views over the park. The grandeur of the rooms makes the Tower ideal for entertaining, yet there is still a cosy and homely feel so you can cuddle up in front of the log fire embracing the intimacy and romance of the castle. Each room is generous, offering plenty of space to spread out and relax. There is a well-equipped kitchen and larder, a dining room to seat ten and a large sitting room with the atmospheric log fire. The two large bedrooms are brimming with character and furnished with four-poster beds. Equipped with en-suite bathrooms, including a claw foot bath and views over the park and castle terrace, it is impossible not to relax in these indulgent spaces.

The rooms can be combined easily with those of the Lauderdale apartment to accommodate large groups. This new apartment can accommodate six guests in the three spacious double rooms. In the same way as the rest of the Castle, the rooms pay homage to the buildings history, with charm and character taking centre stage in every space. Two of the bedrooms boast super-king beds, whilst the third bedroom is furnished twin beds. There is another large family kitchen, with a social sitting and dining area.

A welcome retreat for any group or couple, this peaceful estate is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life. With gardens, barbecues, a tennis court and rolling, beautiful countryside, there is nothing left to desire!

Esk Castle is located between the Montrose Basin and Brechin adjoining the river Southesk. The Estate covers some 7,000 acres of low lying land, with a combination of good arable land, forestry and permanent pasture, which has been under the stewardship of the Carnegie family since 1400. The Carnegie family, now Dukes of Fife, have cared for the land for over 600 years, and this stability and care has allowed wildlife to flourish, making for an idyllic escape that feels like a luxurious retreat to any visitors.

There are Farms, Forestry, Game and Fishing departments, that all work together to keep the estate in its exceptional state. Wild habitats, with endless varieties flora and fauna can be found all over the grounds and have to be explored during your stay. The land also includes a Site of Special Scientific Interest on Rossie Moor, an unspoiled lowland moorland that sits on the hill overlooking Montrose. Another Special Area of Conservation on the estate, is the Southesk River, for its salmon and fresh water pearls. The estate also actively participates in the red squirrel project, so if you keep an eye out during your stay, you are likely to spot some of these along with woodpeckers, kingfishers, ospreys, owls and many other bird species.

On top of all the work and diligence put into caring for the natural landscapes and wildlife on the estate, the family has not forgotten the human experience of these spaces. There are miles of paths laid out for you to follow, taking in the breath-taking scenery, follies and views over the river and lake. There are also plenty of walks and cycles that you can discover along the quiet roads of the estate.

Bringing the castle and its grounds into the 21st century, there is a focus on renewable energy. The estate biomass boiler was also built in 2016, as part of a 100kw hydro-electric scheme and is in operation on the river Southesk, offering power to the national grid.

Luxury self-catering holiday accommodation in Perthshire

Perthshire is not only beautiful, it’s a treasure trove of fun waiting to be uncovered! Tucked right in the beating heart of Scotland, Perthshire is a world of picturesque landscapes, tales of yore and more outdoor activities than you could ever take on in a week. Oliver's Travels has some swanky pads that will serve as your luxurious base for this epic Scottish escapade!

Perthshire’s rolling hills, serene lochs and lush forests scream, "Come, frolic in nature!" This "Gateway to the Highlands" mixes Highland vibes with Lowland grace. The River Tay, Scotland's longest river, does a little sassy meander through the region, adding a dash of natural bling. Loch Tay, a freshwater superstar, is surrounded by mountains and forests that offer a picturesque setting. It is a brilliant hub for kayaking and fishing. The quaint villages around, such as Kenmore, are brimming with charm and character. The Scottish Crannog Centre, nestled on the loch's shores, gives you a sneak peek into ancient Scottish history.

Perth itself is like a history book brought to life. Scone Palace is where Scottish royalty used to get their crowns on. Now, it is open to the public to marvel at opulent rooms and wander through lush grounds. The city centre is a cobbled wonderland, complete with a medieval cathedral and the Fair Maid's House, an ancient building full of intrigue.

If you have a hankering for outdoor adventures, Perthshire is your playground. The Cairngorms National Park up north is nature's theme park for hikers, cyclists and wildlife enthusiasts. Ben Vrackie, a mountain that sounds like it could be a wizard's name, offers sensational views. The Hermitage, near Dunkeld, is a lush forest where you can stroll along the River Braan, marvelling at trees that have probably seen a few wars and revolutions.

Blair Castle in Blair Atholl is an historic castle surrounded by gardens against a mesmerising Grampian Mountains backdrop. If you time your visit right, you might catch the Blair Castle International Horse Trials, a prestigious equestrian party that draws horse lovers from all corners of the globe.

Perthshire is a Scottish blockbuster that seamlessly blends natural beauty, history and more outdoor thrills. Whether you are strolling through Perth's historic streets, paddleboarding on Loch Tay or conquering the Cairngorms, Perthshire is your backstage pass to the highland fling of a lifetime!

Ah, bonnie Scotland! A wild and beautiful part of the world, where you can explore the rugged highlands or enjoy the colour and vibrancy of cultural capitals like Edinburgh and Glasgow.

But how do you know you’re getting the very best out of your trip? That’s where we come in.
