Welcome to Langton Castle. The castle has belonged to the same family for almost 600 years. The present house was built in 1785 and incorporates the walls of a much older castle.
Today the castle remains a private family house, available for exclusive fully serviced weekend, mid-week or weekly rentals. Restored and continually maintained to the highest standard, every original feature is retained, and can be appreciated as intended. All of the modern comforts that one would expect are successfully incorporated without detracting from the character of the house and the relaxed atmosphere which visitors continually comment upon and enjoy so much.

Little Sustainability Gems About the Property
In 2018 the owners put ground source heating in place, which means that they don't use fossil fuels to heat the property. All of the electricity at the property comes from renewable energy sources, and logs for the fires are provided from windfall and thinned trees on the estate. The castle is also an A-listed historic building of architectural importance with some historically significant pieces of furniture.
Location
About the surrounding area of Langton CastleLangton Castle is one mile South East of Duns in the eastern Scottish Borders, probably the most accessible part of rural Scotland. The castle stands at the end of a smooth 500 yard private drive in an area of beautifully maintained woodland and grass parks, with distant views to the Cheviot hills. The location is completely rural - there is absolutely no traffic noise and your privacy is assured.
The dramatic cliffs, coves and castles of the coast are fifteen miles to the East, whilst two miles to the North the rich farmland of the Tweed valley changes abruptly to the moorland landscape of the Lammermuir Hills.
The Scottish Borders and Northumberland are rich in historic towns, castles and houses to visit, and this rural setting is packed with opportunities for activities such as cycling, walking, golf, shooting and fishing.
Should you choose to stay at the castle, there is a billiard room or croquet on the lawn during the summer. In the grass park, anything from a clay pigeon shoot to a full Highland Games can be arranged.
Any activity suitable for the castle or grounds can be arranged. Bands and pipers may be hired and the ballroom is an excellent place to hold a ceilidh, or any other dancing. There is a billiard room with full-size table and table tennis. Outside, anything from an informal game of croquet on the lawn to clay pigeon shooting to a full Highland Games can be held.
Should you choose to venture away from the castle, the Scottish Borders offer endless opportunity for walking, cycling and historic sights. The castle is also within easy reach of many excellent golf courses (Duns course is only 2 miles away), historic towns, country houses and castles. In season, excellent shooting and fishing is available locally by arrangement.

Cat
How long have you owned the property?
More than 20 years.
What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
The property has been in the Home family since the 15th century – with the land no doubt obtained through strong arm tactics – and has a romantic history that includes Flodden and a mention in Sir Walter Scott's famous epic poem, The Lay of the Last Minstrel.
Are there any interesting stories in its history?
Given the history of the castle – from its early days as a fortified tower house to its 18th century redesign by Robert Adam – there are many interesting tales. It the early years they often included bloodshed but things are a lot calmer around here now. We specialise in hosting weddings and parties and these days we like to think of ourselves as lovers rather than fighters.
Have you ever had any famous guests staying?
Shhhhh… top secret.
What’s the strangest or most difficult guest request you’ve ever received?
The one that springs to mind is a request for frozen brussel sprouts to be served at breakfast time. It was for a Japanese bride who loved them and couldn't get them in Japan. She ate most of a bag so she was obviously quite keen!
For anyone coming to stay is there anything in the surrounding area they should...
Really do?
Fish on the Tweed, shoot in the local area, walk the Southern Upland way or along the coast, golf at one of the many local courses
Really eat?
Local seafood from Eyemouth and the surrounding coast – be it fish and chips or lobster
Really see?
Manderston House has a silver-plated staircase and the world's largest collection of Huntley & Palmer biscuit tins. It is less than a mile from Wedderburn.
Lastly, what insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
Autumn is very beautiful due to the number of mature trees on the estate. The drawing room has a breathtaking chimney piece sculpted by Piranesi which makes sitting watching the fire in this room in the colder months particularly enjoyable.
