A traditional country home within beautiful Somerset countryside, Cider Cottage is a newly refurbished grade II listed thatched cottage which embodies all the rustic style yet modern upgrades of the perfect rural retreat!
A perfectly quaint exterior greets you as you approach the cottage, with a flowery set of stone walls and large wooden door, and this is maintained by key characteristics within. The main stone-floored living area is spacious and features a lovely set of sofas and chairs in front of the open fireplace and 55’ flatscreen internet-connected TV (with a Bluetooth soundbar!), creating the perfect space to curl up with a glass of wine or a good book on the cooler winter evenings. The open plan design creates a thoroughly social atmosphere, with the dining table alongside the living room. In the beautiful modern kitchen there is an electric oven, hob and dishwasher, and all kinds of pleasant finishing touches. There is also a separate utility room with both a large fridge/freezer and a washer/dryer to ease the daily routine and give you more time enjoying your romantic getaway!
A majestic staircase leads from the main living area to the first-floor, where the two bedrooms are located. Both stunning bedrooms are ensuite, and feature similarly modern and appealing design elements as the rest of the property, with traditional artwork adoring the walls and lovely wooden furniture. The master bedroom ensuite is huge and enjoys a roll-top bath and walk-in shower, while the second bedroom ensuite is a superb modern wetroom with heated stone tile floors and both have fluffy bathrobes provided to keep you as content and comfortable as we can!
The large private garden consists of an expansive lawn, a BBQ and a brilliant set of teak table and chairs for when the weather allows, as well as private parking space for two cars. From fabulous stone floors and ancient beams, to all kinds of accessible fields and woods surrounding the cottage, this is the ideal spot for a rural escape both inside and out!
There are some amazing local walking and cycling routes, country pubs and of course, should you need it, easily accessibly shopping in Ilminster just two miles away.
Those in larger groups who still want to enjoy this beautiful spot, can stay at Hurcott Farmhouse, which is just nextdoor and can accomodate up to fourteen guests.
What you should know…
- A roll top bath is located in the master bedroom, just like so many top boutique hotels, however having a bathroom directly in the bedroom may not be to everyone’s taste.

About the surrounding area of Cider CottageLocated in the tiny hamlet of Atherstone, and surrounded by fields and woods, Cider Cottage benefits from access to both amazing local walking and cycling routes throughout the myriad of local country lanes and footpaths, and a huge array of pubs, restaurants and activities in the local vicinity!
There are several country pubs nearby, some within walking distance, including the Barrington Boar, and many others just a short drive or cycle away, including the Dinnington Docks and the Lord Poulett Arms.
There is also a variety of shopping opportunities in Ilminster, as well as a number of local attractions, such as the Dennis Chinaworks (with fabulous tea rooms), Dillington House (a venue for regular classical music concerts) and Barrington House, a National Trust house with gardens open to the public, that are well worth a visit.
There are also a number of local cider producers nearby, Perry’s Cider in Dowlish Wake and Julian Temperley’s cider and cider brandy distillery at Burrow Hill, whose orchards and presses are worth seeing. And finally, the lovely beach at Lyme Regis, and of course the infamous Jurassic coastline, perfect for a day or two walking, are both just 40 minutes or so away.

A great stay!
One of our best stays, loved staying at Cider Cottage. No complaints all was well thought out for guests.
-
An extra special place...
An extra special place for that special occasion. Everything is thought about and provided even those extra things you had not considered. The cycling and walking are excellent so close to the house.

A fabulous place to stay!
What a fabulous, luxurious and stylish place to stay! It was very warm and cosy, with extremely comfortable beds, and lots thoughtful little touches. The cottage is in a quiet, rural location and made a great base for exploring the countryside. We would definitely stay again.

Excellent
Fabulous cottage, excellent modern amenities. Both bedrooms and bathrooms were of exceptional high standard. Great location.

Honeymoon!
We visited the cottage on our honeymoon. The cottage is a gorgeously turned out retreat, perfect for a hide away and for destressing. We initally booked a few nights but loved the venue and location and so booked another two nights spending a total of 5 days here in cosy comfort. We used it as a base to explore Dorset and Somerset, and in the evenings lit the log burner and snuggled up for netflix. There are local amenities in nearby ilminster but probably easier to access with a car than walking. Would definitely return.
