Owner Profile

Owner
Amanda

How long have you owned the property?
For 35 years.

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
The stunning views stretching over ten miles to Glastonbury Tor, with no other houses in sight. The setting is so special—a farmhouse surrounded by 60 acres of meadowland, with three wild swimming ponds and black swans. But most of all, it was the house itself, with its cosy yet grand feel, that made it truly unforgettable.

Are there any interesting stories in its history?
Seymour House has deep historical roots. The oldest part of the house dates back to the 17th century, with the kitchen snug still featuring its original inglenook fireplace. The farm got its name because it was once a “new addition” to the original parkland of nearby Yarlington House, linking it to the area's rich past.

Do you have a favourite room in the property?
The Drawing Room in Summer with its large sash windows open to the south and west, and the dining room in winter with its dramatic red walls which augment the flickering candle light and fire burning.

For anyone coming to stay, is there anything in the surrounding area they should...
- Really do?
Walk up Cadbury Camp, a ruined Iron Age fort that is believed to be the setting of Kind Arthurs Camelot castle - unbelievable views!
- Really eat? We are surrounded by dairy farms that make their own internationally award winning artisan cheddar cheese, like Montgomery and Godminster. If you're a foodie, don't miss Osip, a restaurant soon to be awarded a Michelin star.
- Really see? You can also visit Hauser and Wirth or The Newt, both globally recognised destinations for art and culture.

What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
This area is quickly gaining recognition and is set to rival the famous (but sometimes considered "twee") Cotswolds. It's still a well-kept secret, so visit while it’s under the radar—just take a look at Bruton, just 2 miles away, and you’ll see what we mean!

  • We had a fabulous stay

    on 26/10/2024

We had a fabulous stay at Seymour House. Ola was lovely and very helpful, on hand if we need anything.
The house and all the rooms are so beautiful, each room was well equipped with all we needed for our stay.
The location and surrounding areas are idyllic, we were able to enjoy many walks together, spotting the wildlife including a beautiful barn owl.
We have made wonderful memories during our stay for our year of family celebrations that we will treasure forever.

  • Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

    on 24/08/2024

We booked the house for the long bank holiday weekend for a family get together of 14 people. It’s a picturesque setting with animals grazing on the land and a lovely pond for rowing / swimming nearby. The house itself easily fit us all in and was stunningly decorated. Charlie and Amanda (and the lovely Ola) were very helpful throughout the process and responsive to our needs (including flexibility with a late check-out) and provided us great suggestions for what to do in a local experience. Thank you!

  • Picture-postcard home

    on 03/08/2024

We stayed at Amanda and Charlie's picture-postcard home for a family get together and left with many wonderful memories.
The idyllic location had everything we possibly needed to relax, enjoy each other's company and keep everyone entertained.
Our hosts couldn't have made us feel more at home and, with the help of their lovely housekeeper Ola, did everything they could to make sure our stay was impeccable.
We feel very privileged to have stayed in their beautiful home and would absolutely love to stay again.

  • We had an incredible stay

    on 22/07/2023

The photos do not do the property justice, it is gorgeous and huge! My group of 15 fit perfectly and felt very comfortable. The property is vast and beautiful and provides lots to do with two lakes, a yurt, a boat, and lots of farm animals roaming around (safely). The groundskeeper is very friendly and lives on site in their own cabin and was there to show us around the property and how everything worked at check in, and to answer any questions through out our stay. I would highly recommend this house and would love to come back soon!
