Overview
Nestled amidst the breathtaking beauty of Norman's Bay, between Bexhill and Pevensey, you'll find the remarkable Sunshine House.
Picture-perfect and radiating charm, With sweeping sea views, this magical holiday home enjoys five spacious bedrooms, gorgeous living spaces and a delightful garden in a very prestigious spot. The property enjoys a wonderful history as it was previously the local cafe and hotel. It was brilliantly renovated by a couple that had dreamed for many years of owning it having fallen in love with the area and the idea of renovating it. Many moons after dropping notes through the door, the property went to auction and their dreams came true. Guests staying at Sunshine House will clearly see the love that has gone into this wonderful beach fronted home. It is perfect for a multi-generational family holiday or taking holidays with friends. There are pubs within walking distance, a multitude of fabulous beaches to chose from, 1066 country to discover and seaside attractions to enjoy.
Pevensey is an attractive town with a castle, Mint House and little Tudor Court House, reputed to be the oldest and smallest town hall in England and now a museum. Bexhill-on-Sea, just down the road, is the birthplace of British Motor Racing, home of the De La Warr Pavilion where Bob Marley had his first ever UK gig in July 1972 and it is home to the Guinness World Record breaker for the largest charleston dance! It is a tranquil seaside town with charm, style and a two mile seaside promenade. Further along from Bexhill is Hastings, Rye and the glorious Camber Sands and in the opposite direction, Eastbourne and Seaford. Sunshine House is tucked away in Norman’s Bay at the end of a single track road opposite the beach. There is parking for three cars in the drive with more parking available on the beach road.
The ground floor is home to a beautiful living room that has double doors which open to a dining area with a small desk for those urgent emails, which in turn opens to a warm and inviting kitchen diner. The hallway is light and airy and very spacious, just like almost every room. The living room is a real winner with double French doors opening to the garden, sumptuous sofas and a wonderful feature fireplace, perfect for a chilled evening watching a movie or playing family board games. The dining area doubles as a library with plenty of books lined up on the shelves. Every room is drowned in natural light and enjoys an elegant and serene colour palette. The ground floor enjoys opulent wooden floors and underfloor heating throughout. The kitchen is magnificent with a range cooker, deep ceramic sink and other excellent appliances. It is the heart of the home in mellow aqua tones and enjoying a sociable island and a fabulous dining table and chairs. There is also a helpful laundry room with a washing machine and drying rack and a downstairs cloakroom.
All five bedrooms are upstairs with some enjoying the most fabulous seascapes. There are two master bedroom suites in Sunshine House, perfect if you are two families. Both bedroom suites enjoy glorious window seats where you could easily spend hours watching the sea and activity on the beach. Both of the masters also enjoy comfy double beds which are dressed in luxury linens and smart en-suite bathrooms. On this floor, wealso have a double bedroom with king-size bed and two very pretty twin bedrooms. There is also a foldaway bed, which can be made to accommodate an 11th guest. Guests staying in these bedrooms share a delightful family bathroom.
Sunshine House enjoys a furnished terrace to the front of the property and also a terrace and garden to the side and rear. It is perfect for family fun and alfresco dining or lazing in the sunshine on loungers.

Location
About the surrounding area of Sunshine HouseSunshine House enjoys a fabulous beach front position in Norman’s Bay, between Pevensey and Bexhill-on-Sea. It is peaceful, unspoilt and enjoys panoramic sea views for as far as you can see, a truly idyllic location. Trips to Eastbourne, Hastings, Rye, Winchelsea and the gorgeous Camber Sands are all very easy.
Eastbourne is bursting with activities. The Beachy Head Story is a new exhibition that allows visitors to enjoy the beautiful landscape of Beachy Head and the South Downs. You can visit theme parks, zoos, find out about the area’s history, discover 1066 castles, museums and excellent art galleries. There are also local vineyards to visit where you can taste delicious wines and other produce and farmers markets. The South Downs National Park offers acres of beautiful scenery and the seaside towns offer outstanding dining and shopping opportunities. Eastbourne’s marina is amazing. It offers brilliant walks around the harbours and a buzzy waterfront complex. The fabulous Towner Art Gallery is transforming its outdoor walls with a large scale colourful geometric mural.
Soaring above Bexhill’s seafront, the De La Warr Pavilion is a modernist masterpiece that feels fresh and contemporary. It was built with thanks to the 9th Earl de la Warr.
Hastings boasts a fascinating history. The town was attacked by the French during the Hundred Years War and in 1377, a second attack all but destroyed the town. The Old Town’s architecture ranges from Medieval to Victorian with one of the oldest buildings, the Court House, being built around 1450. The town boasts many passages and narrow streets known as the twittens, many cafes, bars and restaurants and some excellent shops and art galleries. The Castle, originally built by William the Conqueror, lies in ruins at the top of West Hill and can be visited using the steepest funicular railway in Britain. The Hastings Museum and Art Gallery boasts an exhibition dedicated to American Indians, Grey Owl, an early conservationist who came from Hastings and John Logie Baird who pioneered television in Hastings. There are many architectural and cultural attractions including a theatre, parks and gardens. Hastings hosts man events including the Hastings Half Marathon, the Jack in the Green Festival, Hastings Beer Festival, Coastal Currents and the Old Town Carnival.
Rye, a Medieval citadel huddled against invaders and the sea, is today home to a myriad of art, curiosities and cosy pubs and restaurants. They serve the best that Sussex has to offer. Built on timeless tales and smuggled secrets, Rye offers charm and intrigue with nooks and crannies to explore and distant views across Romney Marsh to enjoy. St Mary’s Church tower is open to the public and offers the best viewpoint to show the warm terracotta roofs of the many timbered houses. These ancient, characterful buildings, cobbled streets and secret passages attract film crews in search of historical settings for period productions. The Rye Castle Museum was originally a bottling factory and now boasts a unique 18th century fire engine as well as relics from the town’s shipbuilding past. The Rye Harbour Nature Reserve has a wonderful network of criss crossing footpaths on the saltmarsh and shingle ridges with fabulous views across to Camber Sands and the cliffs of Hastings Country Park. It is a twitcher’s paradise with five hides where you can watch the wildlife. You can take boat trips or lessons in windsurfing, dinghy sailing or paddleboarding from Rye Watersports.
Camber Sands is a fabulous beach in the village of Camber. It is the only sand dune system in East Sussex, east of the estuary of the River Rother at Rye Bay, and stretches for three miles to just beyond the Kent border.
Those with an interest in art will enjoy visits to both Charleston House, a home of the Bloomsbury group in Firle, and Farleys Farmhouse near Chiddingly, the former home of the photographer Lee Miller and the surrealist artist Roland Penrose. Both are located within a 30-minute drive of Sunshine House.

Alexandra Park offers abundant wildlife, especially at the Northern end known as ‘Old Roar Gill’. Children will be delighted watching kingfishers and grey wagtails as well as migratory night herons, little bittern, honey buzzards and ferruginous ducks. There is a boating lake, traditional bowls green and an adventure playground. There are also tennis courts, flower and rose gardens, fishing reservoirs, natural woodland and a miniature railway. Many of the town’s events take place in the park. Hastings’ Blue Reef Aquarium transports children to the spectacular underwater gardens of the Mediterranean. They can enjoy close encounters in a 15 metre long underwater walk through tunnel and there are more than 30 naturally themed displays. There are daily feeding times and fun filled events.
The village of Camber, East of Rye, has a wonderful, golden stretch of paradise for a family beach day. This rugged, natural, picturesque beach offers gorgeous clean sand, pretty dunes and a huge open space. The beach is zoned for separate activities making it ideal for families.
There are many castles to visit, including Bodiam Castle which is both picturesque and very interesting. Visitors can enjoy a glimpse of Medieval splendour at the 14th century fortress with its spiral staircases, battlements and wooden portcullis. It also boasts massive towers, a moat with fish and fabulous picnic spots. Colourful characters wander around in costume.

Wonderful Home away from Home!
Wonderful Home away from Home!
Beautiful house with every amenity you would want to make your stay comfortable. We were 6 adults and 5 children, 11 delighted holiday makers.
-
A must
Arrived at the house to be greeted by fresh flowers and groceries. The house was amazing, very clean and spacious. The garden was an added bonus and very well kept. The beach was csc 2 minute walk away. Would thoroughly recommend it.
-
5 star from us!
Sunshine House was a fantastic place there was nothing that hadn't been provided. The rooms were very spacious and no-one felt on top of each other. The garden was an added bonus as was being right next to the beach. It was a 5 star from us.

Lovely house
Lovely house, well kitted out, super nice feel to it! And great comms and support from Oliver Travel.

The gorgeous rooms are equal to your website
The house is beautiful. It was nice to arrive in the dark to find a few lights on. The welcome foody bits too are a nice touch. The house felt a bit cold downstairs but warm upstairs. But by the following morning it was nice and toasty downstairs too. It is not always the case, but here the gorgeous rooms are equal to your website photos. We are loving it.
-
Wonderful and stylish
Sunshine was a wonderful house, beautifully and stylishly furnished and the facilities were excellent. The location was amazing - overlooking the sea with train service (Norman's Bay) within a few minutes walk should some of the party be arriving separately. A car would otherwise be necessary as there are no shops within walking distance. We would highly recommend this property.
-
Beautiful
Beautiful house for extended family getaway. Perfect location for beach walks.
-
Beautiful house
The house is beautiful, we loved our time here as a family.

In love with the house
We are in love with the house and this sunny spot. Thank you so much for such a special stay. Thank the owner for the most wonderful weekend. We have had a long needed reunion at this beautiful spot. We enjoyed an early morning dip and walk in the beautiful countryside. We had some great games of monopoly too.
-
Gorgeous house and gardens
We have had the most wonderful weekend celebrating a 26th birthday with all the family including grandmother of 84 years. We all live all over the country and occasionally have the opportunity for everyone to get together, and we were blessed to have the chance to stay at this beautiful home. The house and gardens are gorgeous and the beach at the doorstep is a dream. we had the best time walking, eating, drinking, laughing together with lovely memories of the time here this weekend.

Impressive yet super cosy and comfortable home
We arrived last night in the rain and felt immediately welcome at this impressive yet super cosy and comfortable home. It’s beautifully spacious with everything we need (super grateful for the little touches and provision of basics which so many rentals lack). Now we just need the wind and rain to calm down so that we can explore our surroundings. Our only disappointment is no wood for the open fire (one of the things we searched for as we don’t have one in London) and the assumption that we are not able to light fires this week. Other than that all good so far!

Beautiful House in perfect condition

Immaculately clean and comfortable
What a beautiful house and fabulous garden. We've all enjoyed being so close to the see and waking up to sunshine (except for our last day). Easy access from Clapham Junction so we only had to bring one car! Then it was using the local trains if we wanted to visit Eastbourne and Bexhill. Grandparents enjoyed a game of golf, at Cooden Beach. Highlights were seeing a black seal, swimming in the sea, swinging on the swing, games of petanque. Well kitted house and immaculately clean and comfortable.

Beautiful house
Such a beautiful house. A perfect finish to our 5 week trip. We all enjoyed our stay so much, specially having three generations together.
-
Beautiful sea views and excellent house
Excellent house, spacious and very well kept. We enjoyed our stay making full of the lovely garden and the games equipment. Beautiful sea views and a great beach. We saw seals swimming on two days. House cleaners very helpful and made us feel welcome on the first day. we hope to come back at some point in the future.

Absolutely fabulous
I booked a family break at Sunshine house in Normans Bay and the house was absolutely fabulous.
Olivers Travels were good however I did have a query prior to going, so I sent an email. My email wasn't answered so I had to ring in and was told my email had gone into spam...
The issue was sorted quickly after my phone call and we had a wonderful stay. -
Perfect
One word says it all. PERFECT! And the sunshine everyday, which made it even more so.
Thank you for everything. -
Character and history
We have had a wonderful time at Sunshine House. What a beautiful place! We have made lots of memories. It was lovely to stay in a house filled with so much character and history.

A fabulous home in a great little location
Just returned home from a lovely family birthday celebrations break away in Sunshine House, Norman's Bay. A fabulous home in a great little location, short walk to the shingle beach. Everything you need in a 'home from home' stay. Immaculately presented, with every little detail covered. A little welcome pack was a lovely touch too - thank you Sara & team. Liaison with Sara about Sunshine house was fantastic, prompt and informative. The Team at Oliver's Travels & Bella were very helpful and prompt with responses to my questions.
We will certainly book again via Oliver's Travel & hope to stay again in the future at the beautiful Sunshine House & to the Owners - thank you for sharing your lovely home, you saved a piece of Norman's Bay history.
Smiles all round from our family.
-
Glorious house
A group of 7 girls from Essex have had an amazing weekend. Our Christmas gift gift together. Such a glorious house, so many amazing ornaments and pictures. Even the miserable weather could not dampen our experience. Thank the owner for sharing their beautiful house.
-
Beautiful
Beautifully appointed property with well maintained large garden. An ideal house for an extended family holiday.
-
Highly recommend
Fantastic choice! Fabulous house which lived up to all the photos. Great location. Ideal for family or large party holiday. Beautiful views from the front facing double bedrooms. Everything you need available and spotlessly clean. Thoroughly recommend.

A wonderful stay!
We had a wonderful family holiday at Sunshine House, after a two year delay our first family holiday across three generations was well worth the wait!! The house & gardens are simply stunning with the photos on the website not doing it justice. As a group of 9 people there was plenty of space for everyone to come together but also be apart when needed & being a stones throw away for the beach was amazing!! One thing I would say is that access to a car is a must given local amenities are all in Eastbourne.

We'll definitely be back
Sunshine House allowed us to have three generations of our family together in a lovely, spacious house. Although there were nine of us, it never felt crowded and there was always a quiet spot to be found if you wanted it. The accommodation is very well equipped and cooking for the family was easy. It was lovely to wake up each morning and lay in bed looking out over the sea just a few yards away. Our visit was early April and there were some frosty nights but the whole place was really well heated - in fact, we had to turn the heat down! The only draw back to Sunshine House is that a car is essential as there are no shops or amenities within walking distance but that was clear from the other reviews so we were prepared for it. We would definitely go back if we get the chance.
-
We loved our stay
The house is very large and comfortable, the photos on the websites don't do it justice! Myself, my friend and my grown up children and grandchildren loved our short break at 'sunshine'. It is full of the owners interesting collections from around the globe, the beds were very comfortable and having the addition of the library room meant there were enough rooms to accomadate all ages. The very large garden was a big hit with the children especially with hidden 'den' areas to hide in and lawn space to play in.
We enjoyed our scavenging for shells on the beach although it was quite breezy! The area around the house does not have any shops/amenties so a car is needed to travel to larger towns for shopping and sightseeing, I went to Hastings with my friend and wandered around the old town & antique shops & we stopped at the large M&S & Tesco on the way home for supplies. Eastbourne is also good for shops & things to do with children and we went to Drusillas zoo park on our way back home.
I would recommend 'Sunshine House' to any large family wanting a peaceful escape. -
Perfect
Fabulous House , couldn’t fault it. Location great if you want to just getaway from it all.
-
Spacious property
Sunshine House is a well maintained, spacious house in a great location for Normans Bay Beach.
The Star Inn Pub servers excellent good value food, but you need to travel to Eastbourne, Bexhill or Hastings for moor choice in food outlets, shops and other amenities. -
Thank you
Beautiful home and stunning views of the sea - had an amazing stay at Sunshine House in January 2022 for a belated 70th birthday celebration - 7 adults, 2 kids and a dog - plenty of space for everyone to fully relax and have fun! Nothing is too much for the house manager - communication is 10/10 - also we needed additional champagne glasses and she went out and bought some for us - exceptional service! Will be going back at some point as had the best time - thank you!
-
Sure we'll return!
An amazing house. Spacious rooms and equipped to a very high standard. Loved the sunrises over the sea and morning walks on the beach. I'm sure that we'll be back!
-
A wonderful Christmas
Sunshine House is amazing - we hosted a family Christmas there and it was perfect! The house is massive, really comfortable and homely with great views of the sea from the master bedrooms. It was also really cosy and warm when it was stormy, cold and wet outside! I was concerned about cooking a full Christmas meal in an unfamiliar kitchen, but it is really well equipped and had everything we needed. Christmas decorations were an especially nice touch - our kids were very happy to have a tree for Xmas morning.
-
Great for a big family
Sunshine House is a beautiful 5 bedroom house with everything you need for a get together with family and friends. Extremely well kept and beautifully clean. We visited just before Christmas and was was decorated with really made it special.
-
A comfortable stay
Amazing house beautifully decorated we all felt very comfortable there.
Would highly recommend it the house was immaculate.
We’d definitely return! -
Super!!
Absolutely super house!! Beyond what we had expected (8 adults) We decided to cook in every night as the kitchen/ dining/ relaxing areas were so brilliant that we felt we didn’t need to go out to a restaurant or have a takeaway.
The weather was horrendous for the long weekend although the golf morning was sunny, but we really took advantage of the house facilities and with so many rooms and space we could all spread out. Great garden too. -
Amazing
Beautiful house, amazing location with an incredible garden

10 out of 10
How lucky were we to find this beautiful spacious home to celebrate my 70th birthday with 2 daughters, son-in law and 5 grandchildren (age 8-25) and the husband! Whoever stays here next may find age 70 sprinkles despite attemping to clear them up! we had a fabulous week making full use of the amazing garden. The library was a much used room by us all some for reading, playing games and even napping. Great kitchen/dining area and we all found the art etc really interesting and part of the charm of the house. Loved the views and the peace and quite. Plenty of rabbits and even a seal. All in all, 10 out of 10.

Stylish house
A lovely place to stay and a welcome change of scenery post COVID lockdown.
I stayed here with my family of four during the Easter holiday break (we could definitely have fit in another family or two comfortably).
Bracing walks on the beach which was mere metres away from the front door of the house, time spent playing cricket and croquet in the gorgeous landscaped garden and enjoying baking and cooking in the enormous kitchen.
The house is styled very thoughtfully giving you a sense of the owners much widely travelled experiences. I loved the library and its extensive choice of books and sat curled up beside the fire reading most evenings.
Day trips to Hastings, walks around Alfriston and visiting local farm produce shops kept the kids entertained.
