Nice house!
The owner was friendly and responsive. The cleaner / helper that met us on the first day was super-friendly and helpful throughout. We had an issue with hot water on one occasion, that was fixed within hours. The house is very large and the garden, whilst not enormous, is very nice. Middleham is a lovely quiet village, a stone's throw away from lots of nice countryside and our kids especially enjoyed visiting Bolton Castle and Lightwater Valley, both short journeys away.
However, the house is a bit dated and could use a bit of touching up and tlc. This is apparent throughout, most obviously in the snooker room. Also, almost none of the windows would open, which made it difficult to get air in the bedrooms, during our summer visit. For the pretty significant price, we would have expected it to have been slightly better maintained.

What a fantastic place
It was a great location right in the middle of the village but still private. The house itself, had all the space we need and the bedrooms hit all our requirements.
We also had a local private chef for a couple of nights which we highly recommend.
There was so much to do in the area, we all want to come back!
The only negatives were some of the electrics were a little muddling as some lamps didn't work in some locations. Also my father is a Charter Surveyor and he was certain he smelt dry rot in the Drawing room, so recommends you get someone to check it out if you haven't already.
Wonderful holiday, thank you so much! -
A great weekend celebrating
We’ve all had a great weekend celebrating a family reunion with our Australian family, the house was just perfect the children loved the garden and all the rooms to play hide and seek in, the men really enjoyed the games room and became really competitive. The weather was perfect and the barbecue was used.
Local fish & chips and prosecco on the terrace while the children played badminton, a trip to Forbidden Corner a great weekend. Many thanks to Joanna and all the staff. -
We had a wonderful stay.
We had a wonderful stay. It manages to combine the pleasures of an old fashioned country house with Large grounds, Billiard Room, Library and impressive four poster bed, with the comforts of beautifully comfortable beds and modern en-suite facilities.
We were a large group and so also filled the modernised west wing and everyone was warm and comfortable. The housekeeping staff were extremely helpful and kind. -
A very special place
Leyburn Manor is a very special place for us as my mum and Dads ashes are there and we visit every year in January as a family,
Brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
So to get a place big enough to hold us is hard to find, the place we stayed before got too small,
the house was a fantastic find and we stayed here for the first time this year
OMG!!! It was everything we wanted and more, the rooms are lovely beds are sooooo comfy and the bed linen was quality.
We had a murder mystery while we were there and it was a perfect place to have one
The grandchildren loved the pools table that was an added bonus
We used the west wing as well as it was a big party of us
We shall be making this a yearly event in this house now making new memories
Thanks to Joanna very helpful and smiley.

The third time
This is the third time our large group (17 adults and 6 children) have enjoyed a fantastic New Year week here. The place is very large and comfortable, and we made full use of the piano, log fire and formal dining room. We only didn't get round to trying the snooker table properly! Highlights of our stay this time include the new annexe, with cosy bedrooms and its own kitchen (near the main kitchen) which was useful when cooking multi-course meals for such large numbers. Manor itself is very attractive, as is the whole countryside, including neighbouring small towns such as Leyburn (which has excellent food and wine shops). We didn't want to leave!

We had such a wonderful week
We had such a wonderful week. It has a wonderful feel to it and the accommodation was exactly right for our family gathering. All 10 bedrooms are lovely so nobody felt they drew a short straw. Snooker provided a huge amount of entertainment (fierce competition) and the sitting room was a very pleasing room to be in whether it was two people reading or all 18 of us playing games. The kitchen/dining facilities are excellent and very well equipped. We made use of the utility/storage room as we had bikes and the weather was somewhat inclement. We had a couple of issues which were quickly addressed and I found the owner very helpful when I had any queries prior to our stay. The location of the house is ideal - great for local pubs and the cycling is amazing.
We would definitely recommend this house and hope to return there ourselves in the future. -
I would recommend it.
We are a group of over 20 adult friends who have stayed in properties similar to this every year since the early 2000s.
This property was rated as one of the best we have been to. The rooms are spacious and the property is well equipped. It is well managed by the owner (processing the booking) and the housekeeper on site.
It is in a fabulous location in the village, central yet peaceful (note - the adjacent church bells do chime!). There are a number of great walks in various directions directly from the property. There are a number of really good restaurants within easy reach, too. It is also quite special to see all the racehorses being ridden up to the gallops each morning.
In summary it is a property we would revisit (and that has only happened once before)!
I would recommend it. -
We had a marvelous long weekend
We recently stayed at Leyburn Manor for my mother's 80th birthday, with extended family. We had a marvelous long weekend, the house was amazing, very spacious with plenty of room for the 26 of us in attendance. The bedrooms and bathrooms were lovely, and the living spaces exceptional. The house was situated conveniently in the center of the village, and we managed to do an amazing walk by the river, directly from the house. The scenery was simply stunning.
All of my family have agreed that we would highly recommend this property, and we will certainly be back for our next big family get together. -
Great location
We were a large family group of 16 adults and eight children and stayed for 3 nights in April.
The housekeeper met us on arrival and showed us around and we all felt wonderfully at home in Leyburn Manor. There was plenty of space for us all to be together and and have privacy too. The house was very well equipped and the bedrooms very comfortable with plenty of bathrooms.
It is in an excellent position in the middle of the village and yet is well secluded with great space for children to play.
There is plenty to do in the area and great walks locally. We would definitely like to return. -
Everyone wants to come back!
Our family loved Leyburn Manor - we had a weekend family celebration and it was perfect. The house is spectacular! Large rooms - comfortable, quality furnishings throughout- bedrooms very comfortable and well furnished - linens great too.
Everything was perfect for us - extremely clean, fresh and warm. The grounds are beautiful and large. There were 25 of us and there was plenty of space for us all! The village is very charming - the Gallops, walks, the Castle, pubs, scenery - lovely.
We can't say enough... it was a wonderful, unforgettable weekend. The family were in heaven! Everyone wants to come back! -
Character!
Leyburn Manor has real character and is equipped with everything a group needs for a party or dinner party. There are plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs that range from good functional bedrooms to excellent statement rooms, there is even a four poster bed. Downstairs there is a drawing room, library and dining room as well as a full sized snooker table in the billiard room. A great feature for our family was the large kitchen/diner area with a large table at which the family can gather. It was perfect for Sunday morning reading the papers with regular coffee, juice and toast! Stephanie the housekeeper greeted us and made sure we settled in with no hassle - she is based 1/2 an hour away and is happy to be contacted at any time during your stay. For those who love walking the grounds and surrounding area in the middle of the Yorkshire dales is ideal but for those who have less interest in walking, the town with a good restaurant and four pubs plus a very handy general store is a very short walk away (even my Mum with two replacement hips agreed it wasn't far). The dining room is great for a dinner party (especially if you arrange with the owner's preferred private chef Lady G to do the catering!)
-
Birthday celebration!
A family group of 18 met for a 90th birthday celebration at Leyburn Manor. We had a lovely time, the house is right in the centre of town so there are pubs and restaurants nearby if you want to eat out, but equally if you want to eat in there is a well stocked kitchen with a large dining area. We loved the charm of the place and its charm enhanced our family celebration.
-
Team event...
A team of us booked Leyburn Manor for a couple of nights, whilst grouse shooting. It met our requirements exactly, the house is warm and spacious, all the rooms bar one have bath rooms, and the kitchen is large and has everything you need. The décor is functional, rather than grand. Everything was clean and tidy.
-
A very happy stay!
I stayed at Leyburn Manor at Easter with the whole family {minus two of the boys who were travelling] so we were 18 in total. We were celebrating my son's 50th birthday and our big party on Easter Saturday was catered by Georgina Anderson really beautifully .She produced some wonderful food for us during our stay. It was a very comfortable house and we had a very happy stay. The walks in the Dales were amazing and led by my son we tramped over many miles of wonderful country with breathtaking views, It will be a hard act to follow for the next 50th !

80th Birthday Weekend...
An amazing place to stay we couldn't have found a more welcoming, impressive venue for my father's 80th birthday celebration.
Leyburn Manor truly felt like a home, albeit a very grand one! Thanks to the lovely housekeeper Kim, we soon settled in to enjoy everything it had to offer. With ages ranging from 3 years old, through teenagers, middleagers to oldies this was the perfect setting for a party that everyone could enjoy.
We would definitely recommend Leyburn Manor and hope to be back for our family's next milestone celebrations! -
50th Birthday Celebrations...
We booked Leyburn Manor to celebrate my 50th Birthday with a group of friends. We did just that ! there was tonnes of space for us all to relax, dance , laugh, sing ! Bedrooms are huge, bathrooms are all quirky, ample hot water for everyone, the house was warm and welcoming. We could not have chosen a better spot to celebrate!
-
Family get-together!
We booked Leyburn Manor for three nights including Valentine's Day. The idea was for our children and grand-children to get together all under one roof. We arrived first and were absolutely blown away with everything we saw. I couldn't wait for the rest of the family to arrive. I can still hear their gasps of "wow" and see the looks of wonder on their faces. There were seven children ranging from two to eleven years. Nine year old Jack made straight for the snooker room - he loved it. This was also popular with the adults. The younger children enjoyed the freedom of space and needed very little in the way of any other entertainment.
Wonderfully comfortable beds set in huge bedrooms with ample spacious, interesting bathrooms. All nineteen of us sat round the dining table for Sunday dinner. Cooking together in the well equipped kitchen was fun. I loved the house so much I could have spent all my time in it. We did, however walk to Leyburn and two families explored the castle and the children played in the house's garden. A beautiful house in a lovely part of Yorkshire. -
Fun filled & relaxing days
Both with and without our kids we have had the most fun filled and relaxing stays at Middleham. You simply cannot beat a 1 minute walk to a choice of pubs, a welcoming restaurant just outside the gates of the huge garden, full size snooker table, seriously proper castle (kids love it) and a river walk so beautiful that it takes the breath away (even if you don't go for the swim). There's a shop that sells everything you need opposite one of the pubs. You can hunker down or get out and about - take your pick. Idyllic.
Don't miss out! Reserve now and get a full refund if you change your mind within 48hrs.
