Location
About the surrounding area of Villa AviceThe nation of Antigua and Barbuda encompasses its namesake sister islands and several smaller islets, all located in the heart of the beautiful Caribbean. While Antigua is the largest of the nation’s islands, it remains a remarkably small corner of paradise at just 281 km², making it the perfect place for a relaxed getaway.
Villa Avice has an ideal location that perfectly encapsulates all the stunning natural beauty that Antigua has to offer. Each day you will be tempted to stay close to Tamarind Hills, with the silky white sands of Ffryes Beach and Darkwood Beach below. Secluded by green hilltops and popular with tourists and locals alike, both beaches are well-known beauty spots. Swim and snorkel in the crystalline waters here, before stopping for lunch at a restaurant near Jolly Harbour Marina.
Slightly further afield, Nelson’s Dockyard National Park is one of five national parks in Antigua. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, this eighteenth-century British naval dockyard is an area of great historical significance on the island, as well as a popular venue for maritime events and activities. Nelson's Dockyard offers visitors plenty of fantastic trekking trails, with breathtaking sights along the way.
Consider visiting Shirley Heights, a restored military lookout with panoramic views and the home of a famous Sunday evening party, where visitors are invited to come and take part in the festivities. Listen to live Caribbean steel drum bands, try some of the local food and rum punch and discover another amazing sunset vista.
Devil’s Bridge is another national park that is well worth a visit. The bridge itself is a natural arch composed of limestone rock, formed over the course of many thousands of years. With geysers and blowholes surrounding the bridge as the waves of the Atlantic crash against the rocks, this is a bracing adventure that will leave you in awe of the serene beaches you have just left behind.
With hiking trails, watersports, culinary delights, museums, exotic birds and rainforests, visitors will be enchanted time and time again by Antigua’s breathtaking landscape and rich culture.

Best Suited For: All AgesWith a private swimming pool, Wi-Fi available throughout the resort and the choice of two stunning local beaches nearby, you may find that there is more than enough on your doorstep to keep younger visitors endlessly entertained. However, should you wish to venture a little further afield, Antigua’s amazing landscape has plenty of exciting activities to offer the whole family.
Children will be delighted by the treasure trove of coastal activities available, from swimming and snorkeling at Darkwood Beach to sea kayaking at Cades Bay. Boat excursions are also possible, including tours to Antigua’s sister island, Barbuda. Some ninety minutes across the water, one of Barbuda’s highlights is the Frigate Bird Sanctuary, home to thousands of exotic red-throated birds. Back in Antigua, you can head to the island’s wonderful donkey sanctuary, where visitors are encouraged to feed the friendly animals.
For an introduction to a truly important facet of Antiguan culture, why not take everyone to watch a local cricket match? The island is devoted to its national sport, which is played everywhere, though official matches tend to take place on weekends. Later, drive to St. John’s, where older children will enjoy the vibrancy and colour of the island’s capital. Here, families can visit any of the local restaurants to sample some of the island’s delicacies.
A day spent hiking around Nelson’s Dockyard is another great way to get closer to nature. For a scenic hike that everyone will remember, ascend to the panoramic views of Shirley Heights on a quiet weekday afternoon. This is a relatively easy hike but do make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and pack plenty of water. You will find handy trail maps available to download online.
Head out for a coastal drive and within twenty minutes you will reach the Antigua Rainforest Canopy Park, where a thrilling day of rainforest adventure awaits! With experienced instructors to guide you at every point along the way, you will cross suspension bridges and rope obstacles, ziplining above the tree-tops and crisscrossing a stunning gorge. Don’t forget to take a break in the magical twin tree houses tucked away in the dense rainforest. This is an exhilarating day out that varies in intensity, with a range of family-friendly eco-activities available and options to suit all age groups.
After stopping off at Ffryes Beach for one last swim at sunset, gather everyone together for dinner with a view on Villa Avice’s beautiful terrace.
