Location
About the surrounding area of Villa GoldyThe villa’s fantastic location on the southwest coast of the island encapsulates all of the wondrous natural beauty that Antigua has to offer. With tranquil bays, lush headlands, coral reefs and blue lagoons - not to mention the island’s 365 beaches, one for every day of the year - families and couples alike will be enchanted by this stunning Caribbean paradise.
The nation of Antigua and Barbuda is made up of two namesake sister islands, as well as several tiny islets. At just 281 km², Antigua is the nation’s largest island. This relaxed Caribbean getaway is easily accessible by car, so you will have plenty of opportunities to explore. However, with the silky white sands of Ffryes Beach and Darkwood Beach located just below the villa, you may find yourself tempted to stay close to Tamarind Hills and its fabulous facilities, including a restaurant and a saltwater swimming pool. More excellent restaurants can be found on nearby Jolly Harbour Marina, just a five-minute drive away.
Another popular destination for locals and visitors alike is Nelson’s Dockyard National Park, one of five national parks in Antigua. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, this eighteenth-century British naval dockyard is an area of great historical significance on the island, as well as a famous venue for maritime events and activities. Nelson's Dockyard offers visitors plenty of fantastic trekking trails, with breathtaking sights along the way.
Consider visiting Shirley Heights, a restored military lookout with panoramic views, located within Nelson’s Dockyard. Shirley Heights is also the home of a well-established Sunday evening party, where visitors are invited to come and take part in the festivities. Listen to live Caribbean steel drum bands, try some of the local food and rum punch and take in another amazing sunset vista to remember.
Devil’s Bridge is another national park that is well worth a visit. The bridge itself is a natural arch composed of limestone rock, formed over the course of many thousands of years. With geysers and blowholes surrounding the bridge as the waves of the Atlantic crash against the rocks, this is a bracing adventure that will leave you in awe of the serene beaches you have just left behind.
With hiking trails, watersports, culinary delights, museums, exotic birds and rainforests, visitors will be left enchanted by Antigua’s breathtaking landscape and rich culture.

Best Suited For: All AgesWith a private swimming pool and two sandy beaches on your doorstep, you may find that Villa Goldy offers more than enough to keep younger visitors entertained. However, should you wish to explore a little more of the island, Antigua’s beautiful landscape has plenty of exciting activities for the whole family to enjoy.
Drive along the coast before heading inland via Fig Tree Drive and within twenty minutes you will reach the incredible Antigua Rainforest Canopy Park, where a day of ziplining and rainforest adventure awaits! There are a range of fun and friendly eco-activities available here, with options to suit all age groups. With knowledgeable and experienced instructors to guide you at every step along the way, you will cross suspension bridges and rope obstacles whilst ziplining your way above the tree-tops and crisscrossing a stunning gorge. Not for the faint-hearted, this exhilarating day out varies in intensity, with ziplines throughout the rainforest at various heights and lengths.
The trekking trails of Nelson’s Dockyard National Park are another great way to get closer to nature, this time with your feet planted firmly on the ground! Make your way from the marina at Nelson’s Dockyard up to the panoramic views of Shirley Heights on a quiet weekday afternoon, for a scenic hike that everyone will remember. This is a relatively easy hike but do make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and pack plenty of water. There are handy downloadable trail maps available online.
Back down at the marina, there is plenty of fun to be had out on the water, with sailing excursions to suit all levels of experience available. Lessons in a variety of watersports are offered throughout the island, with sea kayaking and kitesurfing among the most popular. On land, horse riding enthusiasts can saddle up by arranging a visit to a local riding club. For something a little different, why not take the family to watch a local cricket match? The island is devoted to its national sport, which is played everywhere, though official matches tend to take place on weekends.
Younger visitors to the Antiguan capital of St. John’s will be delighted by the vivid colours and sounds of this lively port city, where the whole family can visit any of the local restaurants to sample some of the island’s delicacies. From here, head back to Darkwood Beach for another relaxing swim together before you make your way up to Villa Goldy to prepare for the starry night ahead.
