Location
About the surrounding area of Villa CerineoWith the pleasant towns of Supetar and Bol as its main centres, the Croatian island of Brač is a much-loved destination. It’s easily accessible from the mainland – you can make the crossing from Split or Makarska – and from other islands such as Hvar, Korčula and the nearby Šolta.
On the island’s northern coast, Supetar may well be your arrival point. More understated than glamorous Bol in the south, it’s a pleasing place to wander the Old Town streets and dine outside in the sun. One notable local attraction is the Olive Oil Museum in Skrip, about 15 minutes drive from Supetar. This welcoming museum will tell you about the production process, and you can enjoy fine meals in its restaurant.
Bol and the stunning beach of Zlatni Rat are just under an hour’s drive away. Otherwise known as the ‘Golden Horn’, this stunning beach extends into the sea and offers one of Croatia’s fantastic photo opportunities if you can find a spot to view it from above. From the beach, it’s a short stroll into the town, which is Brač’s upscale visitor destination. As the island’s tourist centre, Bol offers excellent restaurants, nightclubs, water sports and plenty more aimed at guests. North of Bol, the peak of Vidova Gora is the highest in the Dalmatian islands and well worth a climb. The landscapes of pine woods, vineyards and pretty bays are a treat to view from the mountaintop.

Brač is an island where the past and present seamlessly intertwine, and the beauty of the landscape is as enticing as its history is enthralling.
Located on the north coast of Brač, and connecting it to the mainland, is the port town of Supetar. It provides a warm welcome to the island, offering an array of cosy cafes serving up strong Croatian coffee and freshly baked pastries. The town’s palm-fringed promenade is a delightful spot for a stroll, and the Romanesque architecture and historic churches are testaments to its enduring history.
Just 40 minutes away, on the south coast of the island, is the idyllic town of Bol, renowned for its beautiful beaches. The most notable is the picture-perfect Zlatni Rat, known as the ‘Golden Horn’ - a stunning natural phenomenon that shifts shape with the tides and winds. The waters here are a dazzling shade of blue, offering a perfect setting for a day of relaxation and water sports.
The Bol Marina is lined with vibrant cafes and restaurants, the perfect place to delight in the local cuisine, including fresh seafood and exquisite Dalmatian wines. Walking along the charming seafront, you'll be immersed in the island's culture, with the scent of lavender lingering in the air from local shops selling handmade products.
Often listed as one of the prettiest towns in Europe, Pučišća is a small coastal town with a big personality, known for its white limestone and beautiful bay. Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesBrač has plenty of excellent beaches for kids to enjoy. They will love Zlatni Rat, said to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, which stretches out over 600m into the sea. From Zlatni Rat, walk down the promenade to the town of Bol. An inflatable water park sits on the sea, great for the youngest of the family to splash around in.
West of the town, check out the Cave of the Dragon. Inside, there are various carvings and symbols which are believed to have been created by a 15th-century friar. Book a tour in advance to see them for yourselves.
Supetar is home to the Cathedral of the Annunciation, which has an exciting collection of art and artefacts. To the west of the town, in Sutivan, a nature park with a small zoo, botanical gardens, playgrounds and lots of activities which is sure to be appreciated.
A boat trip to nearby Šolta island is a great idea for a day trip, or you could cross to the impressive Blue Cave or blue sea grotto, which has become one of the area's major visitor attractions. Alternatively, head to the Olive Oil Museum in Skrip, about 15 minutes drive from Supetar. As well as learning all about the production of olive oil, this friendly museum offers a great lunch.
It's well worth crossing back to the mainland to visit Split. Exceptionally good for kids, the city is packed with family attractions. Look out for the big aquarium and the semi-submarine, which offers close-up views of the creatures of the deep. Froggyland is a one-of-a-kind frog-based museum, while Znjan Beach, with paddle boats, bouncy castles and trampolines, is a family favourite to the east of the city.
Just down the coast, Omiš is a great place for kids and teens. A real outdoor playground, the town offers activities galore, like hiking, cycling, rafting and canoeing. They can discover canyoning, paragliding, scuba-diving, or perhaps go horse-riding, paintballing, or zip-lining 150m above the Cetina Canyon.
There are also lovely beaches, including the 800m Velika Plaza, and it's a fine place to eat out too. Serving great food in an unforgettable location, Flintstones-themed Kremenko is a restaurant hidden high in the mountains and sure to be popular with young children.
