What you should know…

  • It is necessary to have a rental car to travel around the island
  • Hvar's picturesque setting also means it's susceptible to strong winds, especially during certain seasons.
  • Given the villa's tranquil location in the heart of Hvar Island, guests may encounter local wildlife, such as insects and small animals. While these encounters are usually harmless, it's a good idea to keep doors and windows closed, especially in the evening, to prevent any unwelcome visitors from entering the living spaces.

Pitve is in the district of Jelsa on Hvar Island. It lies 168 metres above sea-level and in the hills above Jelsa. The road from Jelsa and Vrisnik goes through the 1500 metre long Pitve tunnel to reach Zavala, Ivan Dolac and Sveta Nedjelja on the south side of the island. Because of its very convenient location and defensive possibilities, Pitve has preserved the centuries-old architecture of a typical Dalmatian village.

It will fascinate every visitor with its tightly bound houses, narrow paved streets and small squares. If you walk to the parish church of St Jacob, you will enjoy an extraordinary panoramic view of Veliko polje, Jelsa, the island of Brac, Hvar channel and the Makarska riviera. Stunning!

Charming Jelsa is the tourist centre on the north shore of the island. The fragrant smells of the dense pine forest, the nearby wonderful sandy beaches, numerous vineyards and historic cultural landmarks make Jelsa a fabulous place to visit. You can sample traditional Mediterranean cuisine and quality Hvar wine in its atmospheric restaurants and bars.  Winetasting is a good option in the new winery. Vitarnja Beach is a beautiful cove near Jelsa which will delight with its clear azure blue waters and intoxicating aromas from the surrounding pine trees. Prapatna Beach is also worthy of a visit.

Many excursions can be taken from Jelsa. Bol is the place on the south shore of the island of Brac situated at the foot of the Vidora Gora, the highest peak of the Adriatic islands.

A visit to Hvar Town is a must! It is stunningly beautiful, and you are sure to find your share of magic, tranquillity, deep history with its monuments and also its incredible restaurants and nightlife – very popular with all.

Energetic holidaymakers can take a cycling tour from Stari Grad through the beautiful small villages of Dol, Vbanj, Svirce, Vrisnik, Jelsa and Vrboska. There are possibilities for sea kayaking, sailing, scuba diving and rock climbing.

Guests holidaying in Hvar usually fly to Split airport and take the catamaran to Hvar Town. You can also book a group speed taxi boat service, taking just 55 minutes from the airport to Hvar.

Region

The island of Hvar stands out as one of Croatia's most enchanting destinations - a picturesque paradise that seamlessly combines natural beauty, historical charm and a lively cultural scene. The sun-drenched island’s stunning landscapes provide a picture-perfect backdrop to a whole wealth of
unforgettable experiences.

At the heart of the island is the port town of Hvar, a historic gem known for its well-preserved architecture and timeless allure. Take a wander through the traffic-free labyrinth of narrow streets, where you can soak up the charm of the island. The central square of Hvar Town is a bustling hub surrounded by centuries-old buildings and lively cafes - it’s a popular spot to enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine from one of the many cafes and restaurants. The square is also home to the imposing St. Stephen's Cathedral, a beautiful example of Dalmatian Renaissance architecture.

Overlooking the town is the Hvar Fortress, a medieval citadel with a history dating back to the 13th century. The fortress is worthy of a visit for the epic panoramic views that stretch across the town and the Adriatic Sea. The ascent is especially rewarding it at sunset, when you can watch the town's
lights sparkle below.

Heading inland just a few kilometres from Hvar Town, the village of Velo Grablje is famous for its lavender fields. Visit during the summer and you'll be treated to the sight and scent of the vast fields in full bloom. The island is also celebrated for its vineyards and olive groves, producing some of Croatia's best wines and olive oils. Many wineries and oil mills offer tastings and tours, allowing
you to sample these local delights while learning about traditional production methods.

Just a short boat ride from the harbour of Hvar are the Pakleni Islands, a group of islets renowned for their pristine beaches, hidden coves, and emerald sea. The idyllic surroundings offer a tranquil escape from the bustle of the main island, making it a favoured day trip destination. Explore hidden
bays, discover secluded beaches, and enjoy water sports in this unspoiled paradise. The uninhabited resort of Palmižana on the island of Sveti Clement is a particular highlight - a hidden oasis known for its lush botanical gardens and crystal-clear water.

For outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers, Hvar's natural beauty provides a picturesque playground. Hvar offers numerous cycling trails for both beginners and experienced riders. The island's diverse terrain is ideal for exploring the charming villages, olive groves, and vineyards on two wheels. Or for a unique perspective of the islands scenic beauty, you can experience the Adriatic up close and paddle along the dramatic coastline in a kayak, discovering coves and sea caves.

Hvar, is a Mediterranean paradise that promises an array of unforgettable experiences. Whether you're wandering through the historic streets of Hvar Town, discovering hidden coves on the Pakleni Islands, or savouring local wines and delicacies, the island offers a blend of cultural exploration, natural beauty, and relaxation that's hard to match.
