Location
About the surrounding area of Villa SpoletoStaying on one of Croatia’s idyllic islands is a bucket list ticket for any traveller, and Ugljan is definitely a good choice! Located a short 25-minute boat journey across the Zadar Channel, you are just a stone throw from all the sites and natural wonders of the mainland, yet as you settle into island life, the hectic tourist cities feel a million miles away. Ugljan is a green, mountainous island carpeted with olive groves and dotted with small fishing ports. Villa Spoleto sits on the waterfront, near to the fishing town of Sutomišćica, just a short drive from the island’s biggest town of Ugljan. While Sutomišćica is quiet and tranquil, perfect for relaxing family holidays, enjoying peace and privacy with your loved ones, Ugljan is slightly busier.
Ugljan is the oldest settlement on the island and contains remnants of the late Roman to early Christian era for you to explore, as well as the best of the islands’ restaurants for you to try!
The fast-flowing Zadar Channel means this tranquil island has some of the cleanest seawater in Croatia, mix this with the beautiful sandy shores and luscious greenery, this location becomes an outdoor lovers dream. The eastern side of the island is busier with visitors and locals, while the western side sits mostly uninhabited, with steep, rugged cliffs dropping down into the sea.
The island has become particularly popular for Zadar residents, who come to enjoy the beaches, bike paths and hiking trails. If you enjoy outdoor adventures, then this is definitely the spot for you, with something for all abilities. You can easily rent a bike from Preko, less than a 10-minute drive from the villa. From here a coastal path runs from Preko to Kukljica, so you can cycle along, taking in the best of the views and stopping here and there to enjoy cold ice creams or refreshing drinks! Bike paths also run from Ugljan to the more remote western side of the island. You can pick up a map of the islands hiking trails from one of the tourist offices, heading out to explore on foot!

Region
The stunning islands of Ugljan and Pasman sweep along the North Dalmatia coastline just south of the bustling city of Zadar. With their lush natural beauty and warm hospitality, these islands are a captivating destination for those seeking a tranquil getaway.
Ugljan, often referred to as the "green island," is characterised by its ever-green Mediterranean vegetation, olive groves, and pine forests. Its historical significance dates back to ancient times, making it a treasure trove for history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
The main town on Ugljan, Preko is an utterly charming coastal village boasting a picturesque harbour and a lovely promenade. Take leisurely walks along the seafront, indulge in local cuisine at the waterfront restaurants, and immerse yourself in the town's welcoming atmosphere. A visit to St. Michael's Fort is a must! This well-preserved medieval fortress has sweeping panoramic views of
the island and its surrounding waters, making it an ideal spot for photography enthusiasts and great for a bit of historical exploration!
Ugljan boasts numerous beautiful beaches, each with its unique character. Sabusa Beach and Muline Beach are both popular choices for sunbathing and swimming, but there are numerous secluded spots to be discovered along the coastline.
Pasman, connected to Ugljan via Ždrelac Bridgebridge, is known for its pristine nature, crystal-clear waters, and a slower pace of life that means you can really switch off. Pasman is especially famous for its idyllic sandy beaches, as well as secluded natural bays - it’s a real slice of paradise, and still relatively untouched.
Tkon is the largest town on Pasman, and it's a delightful place to explore. Take a wander through the charming streets lined with stone houses, and visit the town’s Church of St. Thomas, a historic monument with more stunning views not to be missed. St. Damian’s Monastery is 12th-century Franciscan monastery, with beautiful gardens and a panoramic view from the bell tower. The monastery houses a museum featuring religious art and artefacts.
Some of the best coastal spots on Pasman include Crljina Beach, Suha Punta, and St. Damian's Bay. They’re often less busy than the beaches on the mainland, making them perfect for relaxing days soaking up the sea and sun. Ugljan and Pasman islands offer a fantastic base for a bit of island hopping. You can easily explore the neighbouring islands of Dugi Otok, Kornati, and Zverinac. Each one offers distinct experiences, ranging from national parks to secluded coves, allowing you to embark on your own unique voyage of discovery.
Immerse yourself in the local culture by attending traditional festivals and events that take place throughout the year on Ugljan and Pasman. These include seafood festivals, cultural exhibitions, and religious processions, providing a glimpse into the island's rich heritage and traditions.
Ugljan and Pasman are a captivating destination for travellers seeking a unique and off-the-beatenpath experience. With their stunning landscapes, traditional cuisine and outstanding hospitality, these islands offer a serene slice of paradise that will leave you in awe of their natural beauty.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesFrom the moment you arrive in Zadar and hop on the ferry to Ugljan, kids will be bounding to go! This beautiful island is one of the greenest in Croatia, carpeted with olive groves and dotted with small fishing ports, with a multitude of spots to hike, bike and explore!
The villa itself works well for families, with two twin bedrooms and two double rooms giving you flexibility for your group. The simple and bright designs are easy to settle into, and kids tend to love the exposed stonework, feeling as though they camped out in their own luxury cave! Downstairs, the villa’s open-plan living room offers space for family time, with a large corner sofa where you can curl up together, watching a movie in the evening and a dining table large enough to seat everyone, for all important family dinners. There is a high-chair available for the smallest guests. The entire space feels chilled and relaxed, encouraging everyone to spend time together in one space even if you are busy with different things. With doors leading out to the terrace, kids can run in and out, grabbing snacks, books and toys as they go.
Outside, Villa Spoleto is sure to impress any young visitor, with stunning views out across the harbour. They can wave as boats go by and dream up adventures of themselves as sailors on the high seas. The private swimming pool is centred on the terrace, bordered by sun loungers so you can lay back and relax while your kids laugh and play in the pool. Add a few inflatables, and they will be occupied for hours!
The nearby beaches are idyllic for families, with shallow waters and sandy shores, so little ones can run and play safely, and you can fully relax. You can hire bikes from the nearby town, setting off for cycling adventures along the coast or up to the more remote western side of the island. Grab yourselves a hiking map from one of the tourist offices and let the kids do the planning, setting off through olive groves to find some of the island’s best spots.

Loved everything here...
Such an amazing place! Highly recommended to everyone. Easy to get to with your own private beach. House is absolutely beautiful with everything you need and more. We will try and stay longer here next time. One week is simply not enough. Loved everything here... from booking and communication processes with Klaudija, to a warm welcome by Lucija.

Wonderful
Both the host Klaudija and the villa owner Lucija were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout! They answered messages quickly and went out of their way to ensure we had a comfortable stay - including stocking the kitchen with groceries, making restaurant reservations and offering to book activities! They were just wonderful!
The villa itself is modern, clean and well organized - just like the photos! We had a very comfortable stay.
The location looking over the marina, with a private jetty for dips in the ocean, meant it had one of the best views on the island.
The island is remote and rustic with limited restaurants and only a few grocery stores. No designer shops, but a perfect retreat for rest and relaxation!
Don't miss out! Reserve now and get a full refund if you change your mind within 48hrs.
