Location
About the surrounding area of Villa NerezineYou'll find your blissful villa in the serene town of Nezerine on the Dalmatian island of Losinj. The property itself is a true haven, there are no busy roads surrounding your villa, making this the perfect place for families and any pets you may wish to accompany you. A wonderful place to soak in the charms of the Adriatic and forget the foibles of the larger world, here you can sit beneath the nestle tree and read a book whilst listening to the calming sound of crickets.
Losinj itself is perfectly poised in the northern Adriatic Sea and is renowned for its stunning bays and plentiful vegetation. Its main town, Mali Losinj, houses a large natural harbour, the Museum of Losinj within the Fritzi Palace and the Museum of Apoxyomenos.
Losinj appeals to tourists because it remains so unspoilt – you can truly feel as though you are going back in time when you explore the local area, forget your troubles, spend time with those that matter or delve into a creative project. Despite the virginal landscape, Losinj is by no means a 'boring' location – the history of the area is incredibly rich, and the neighbouring museums will allow you to explore that history in greater depth. The island's history is fairly unique – many travelled to Losinj to assist with respiratory ailments due to its pure sea air.
Losinj is a long, narrow island, far from pollution and populated with many herbs. The island itself is very fragrant – you can smell the herbs upon arrival. Ideal for those who long to explore a paradise that isn't overly populated, you may wish to seek out Veli Losinj to discover more about the area within the confines of a beautiful tower converted into a museum. Another great lure is island hopping – there are plenty of beautiful and bountiful islands dotting the Adriatic. If you're feeling adventurous, you may wish to see what the others have to offer.
As for the local town of Nezerine, where your villa is located, it's known as a fishing island and is home to only 400 people. The historic homes, quaint gentle charm and endless eateries are a key appeal. This is certainly a simpler way of life. Something you absolutely must do in Nezerine is eat. You can't walk far without finding a beautiful spot to while away a few hours. Joker offers excellent seafood and barbecue, Konoba Promenada is the joint for pizza lovers, as is Mornar, Pogana is great for a sample of authentic Croatian fare Bistro RIO is wonderful if you're seeking something fast.
The area is peppered with many churches and monasteries, and there are also a handful of bars and clubs for those who want to explore the nightlife. Of course, the key selling point is the sandy beaches, pristine waters and flawless greenery.

Region
The island of Losinj, located in the azure waters of the Adriatic Sea, beckons travellers seeking an authentic Croatian experience. Often referred to as the “Island of Vitality” due to its warm climate, fragrant pine forests and an abundance of aromatic herbs, Losinj is an ideal destination for sun-seekers looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and immerse themselves in nature.
With over 300 days of sunshine a year, there’s ample opportunity to explore Losinj’s picturesque coves and bays that are perfect for swimming and snorkelling. One of the island’s most famous beaches, Cikat Bay, has crystal-clear waters and a beautiful promenade lined with century-old pine trees.
The waters surrounding Losinj are teeming with diverse marine life, making it a destination of choice for nature lovers and divers. The island is known for its efforts in marine conservation and is home to the Blue World Institute, a research and conservation organisation dedicated to the study and protection of marine life in the Adriatic. One of the most famous inhabitants of the waters around Losinj is the bottlenose dolphin, and visitors often have the opportunity to spot these majestic creatures during boat tours.
Losinj has a vibrant cultural scene that reflects its rich history and ties to the sea. The island's maritime heritage is celebrated in the form of festivals, museums, and events. Located in the town of Mali, the Museum of Apoxyomenos is a treasure trove of art and history, housing the bronze statue of Apoxyomenos, a masterpiece of Greek antiquity. This remarkable statue, which was discovered in the waters of Losinj, showcases the island's historical connections with ancient civilisations.
Throughout the summer, the island comes alive with a variety of cultural events, including music festivals, art exhibitions, and traditional folk celebrations. These events provide a glimpse into the island's unique traditions and a chance to mingle with the warm and welcoming locals.
The island of Losinj has been inhabited for thousands of years. Ancient artefacts and ruins bear witness to the presence of Illyrians, Romans, and Byzantines who once called this island home. One of the most prominent periods in Losinj's history is its role as a maritime hub during the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The island's sheltered bays and natural beauty attracted European nobility, including Habsburg monarchy, who frequented Losinj for their summer retreats. The legacy of this era is still visible today in the well-preserved architecture of charming seaside towns like Mali Losinj and Veli Losinj.
Losinj has long been associated with health and wellness, and it's considered a haven for those seeking relaxation and rejuvenation. The island's microclimate, enriched with the scent of pine trees and sea salt, has been lauded for its therapeutic properties. Visitors can indulge in the island's wellness offerings, which include spa treatments, yoga retreats, and holistic therapies. Losinj's tranquil environment makes it an ideal destination for those looking to escape the stresses of modern life and embrace a holistic approach to well-being.
The island is accessible by car and ferry, with the ferry ride itself providing a scenic journey across the Adriatic. Losinj also has its own airport with regular flights from major European cities. Once on the island, the compact size makes it easy to navigate. If you're looking to escape to a place where time slows down, and the beauty of the Adriatic unfolds before your eyes, Losinj is just the paradise you've been seeking. Its natural beauty, rich heritage, and commitment to environmental conservation make it a standout destination.

A wonderful sanctuary where children can relax and slow down, the pace of life is rewarding for kids of all ages. There's plenty of nearby nature too, and the blissful beach, sand, sun and sea open up the days into what seems like endless summer, with opportunities to sunbathe (with sunscreen of course), swim, snorkel, build sandcastles and play games until the sun dips below the water.
There's a great selection of food regardless of your family's tastes. The area is renowned for seafood, is famed as a fisherman's village, but there are also those safe staples that families can fall back on, such as pizzas. The fascinating architecture and old churches and monasteries also intrigue children, and if you take a car drive into Mali Losinj, there are many museums, restaurants and places to explore. You might want to take them to the Cikat Ulica, the main coastal road along Cikat Bay with sumptuous views, or to beach Beli Zal. For nature lovers, there's Cikat Forest Park which fires up the imagination and the spellbinding Krivica. Cikat Aquapark offers all the family fun you might expect, with swimming pools, fountains and water slides. Curious minds can also learn more about dolphins, turtles and sea turtles at the Blue World Institute.
There's something for everyone here, whether that's whittling away time at the beach, taking in the history or enjoying time in your villa. In a safe and splendid location, the locals are welcoming, warm and very hospitable to families.

We would definitely return!
Thank you for two wonderful weeks in this beautiful old house. We enjoyed the spacious garden (with a little sea view). Beach is easily accessible by foot using a small pathway. We would definitely return!

Perfect!
This traditional stone cottage is perfectly situated above Nerezine township in an almost rural-like setting with sheep, olive trees and stone wall paddocks surrounding it. This gives the cottage and its garden a great sense of space and privacy but you have the convenience of a short walk to the town and local beaches. The cottage is well stocked with everything you need and was very cozy, we felt right at home. Mali Losnij and Cres are beautiful islands to explore and the hosts were really excellent. We definitely hope to return here in the future!

The house is ideally located within an easy walk of the beach and paths up into the hills. The outdoor space is simply lovely - we enjoyed meals outside and playing badminton in the garden.
