Located on the Dalmatian Coast at Jesenice, Villa Horvat enjoys a magnificent sea view and looks out towards the island of Brač. With its own infinity pool and hot tub, it offers a stylish outdoor lifestyle to up to nine guests, in a quiet location just a short walk from the beach.

A large covered terrace area provides a lounge corner and dining area, located right next to the barbecue and outdoor kitchen. The wonderful infinity pool is spacious at 8m x 4m, and the separate hot tub is the perfect place to unwind at the end of the day. Children will love the wendy house, trampoline and slide provided just for them.

Inside, a glass wall gives you a great view of the pool area from the lounge, equipped with TV, banquette and comfy armchairs, and another dining area seats eight and is elegantly lit by a chandelier. A few steps away, you are bound to be charmed by the cute kitchen with blue units, island and all the appliances you may need, including a coffee machine, dishwasher and microwave.

You will find a family bathroom and a double bedroom on this floor, while upstairs you have two bedrooms with a king-size bed, TV, air-conditioning and terrace, and another with twin beds. One of the king-size rooms also includes an en suite and a sofa-bed which can accommodate a further two guests. There is another bathroom on this level, too.

The villa has a small supermarket around 800m away, and the nearest restaurant is around 2km. It should only take around 10 minutes to drive into Omiš, an attractive town on the River Cetina which offers plenty of historic sights, sporting activities and dining opportunities. On the way, look out for the lovely beaches of Dugi Rat and Duće. A little further up the coast in the opposite direction, Split is Croatia’s magnificent second city and lives up to its reputation with stunning landmarks, a cool waterfront and lots of visitor attractions.

Sitting on the Dalmatian coast between Split and Omiš, level with the beautiful island of Brač just across the water, Jesenice incorporates three villages – Krilo, Orij and Suhi Potok. It’s still a pretty small place even then, but that doesn’t stop it being one of the most picturesque spots on the coast. The breathtaking sea view from the coastal road could easily distract you.

Jesenice has a smattering of places to eat and drink, but its main attraction is probably its wooden ships which used to work hard extracting sand from the River Cetina and River Neretva. These days, it’s all about pleasure cruises, and a trip on one of these ships, or ‘salbunjera’, makes a lovely way to discover the considerable delights of the region’s coast.

It all feels a world away from busy Split, but that city is only 17km from Jesenice. This is the region’s hub for culture, entertainment and landmark sights like the Diocletian Palace and the impressive Ivan Meštrović Gallery. The town’s old walls now contain countless fine restaurants, lively bars and interesting shops – and organised walking tours can guide you through the historical sights like Gothic palaces and medieval fortresses.

Less than 10km from Jesenice, Omiš is a popular destination in its own right. A combination of beautiful beaches, towering fortresses, cultural events and laid-back café lifestyle offers more than enough reason to visit, and water-sports lovers and other adventurous types will find activities to challenge and invigorate them by the dozen. If you’re taking young children, the (actually quite scary but less-so now) pirate history of Omiš will be hard to ignore – they’re sure to love hopping aboard for a Pirate Night tour.

Region

The Dalmatian coast is a veritable treasure trove of stunning landscapes and historic towns, and Omis, situated halfway between the famous port city of Split and the energetic town of Maksarka, is no exception. With its rich history, scenic backdrop, and a plethora of attractions, Omis stands out as a unique and captivating destination for those seeking to explore the charm of Croatia. The town's history is deeply intertwined with its dramatic geographical setting, which is dominated by the imposing Cetina River Canyon and the Mosor Mountain Range.

The old town of Omis, with its narrow cobblestone streets and stone houses, is a place where history and culture converge. It’s a charming place to explore on foot and soak up the local way of life. There are a number of historic churches that you’ll come across while exploring - the Church of St. Michael, the Church of St. Peter, and the Church of St. Rocco, which all showcase intricate architectural details and a sense of reverence. The old town is also home to an abundance of restaurants, cafes, and local shops, it’s an excellent spot to savour authentic Croatian dishes and find unique souvenirs.

One of the most prominent historical attractions in the town is the Mirabella Fortress, often called Peovica. Perched high on a rocky outcrop, this fortress was built during the 13th century and was used as a hideout by the notorious Omis pirates who terrorised the Adriatic Sea. Today, visitors can climb up the steep path to the fortress and enjoy panoramic views of the town, the coast, and the surrounding landscapes.

Omis boasts a pristine stretch of coastline with a variety of beaches, each catering to different tastes. One of the most popular is the sandy beach at the mouth of the Cetina River, offering calm waters perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Adventurous spirits may prefer the pebbly beach of Brzet, known for its perfect conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Just a short drive from Omis, there's the small village of Stanici, which is renowned for its unspoiled beaches and crystal-clear waters. It's a serene place to relax and escape the crowds often found in more touristy locations.

The Cetina River is a defining feature of Omis, and one of the most exhilarating activities here is to take a rafting excursion along its emerald waters. The river cuts through the impressive Cetina Canyon, creating a thrilling white-water rafting experience that appeals to adventure seekers and nature lovers alike. The journey offers panoramic views of the rugged cliffs, lush forests, and the charming villages that dot the landscape.

The nearby Biokovo Nature Park is an outstanding natural attraction. The Biokovo Mountain Range, part of the Dinaric Alps, offers incredible hiking opportunities, with well-marked trails leading to panoramic viewpoints where you can marvel at the Adriatic Sea and the islands scattered along the coast. The juxtaposition of the rugged mountain terrain and the azure waters is simply stunning and will leave a lasting impression.

The history, natural beauty, and cultural vitality of Omis combine to create a destination that is rich in character and charm. Whether you're seeking adventure on the Cetina River, exploring the medieval fortresses, or simply savouring the local cuisine, Omis has something to offer every traveller who ventures to this utterly enchanting corner of the Dalmatian coast.

As well as amazing beaches, the Dalmatian Coast offers great towns like Omiš, a place where pirate history is brought to life, and a Flintstones-themed restaurant rocks. There are sports on the river and on the beach, with the golden sands at Velika Plaza also great for building sandcastles with younger children. Head into Split and there are many more family attractions to check out, including an aquarium, a strangely cool frog museum and a semi-submerged submarine for a look underwater from above.

  • Amazing view!

    on 01/07/2023

The house has an amazing view looking over the sea to the island of Brac. We were two families staying in the house for a week, so we appreciated the pool, spa, table tennis and well-equipped kitchen. Our host was very nice, letting us check in early. The house was spacious and very clean, with everything we needed. I would recommend hiring a car, as the house is up on a hill and to walk down to a supermarket and the local beach takes about fifteen minutes. We really enjoyed our stay!

  • Recommend highly!

    on 13/05/2023

Our host Ivana was amazing, she was so responsive and looked after us from start to finish! The place was spotless and catered well for a family of 6 (4 adults and 2 young children), there was good space internally and externally which worked well as the weather wasn’t in our favour during our stay, we had rain for half of our stay! The heated pool doesn’t work too well if windy and rainy but advise to cover the pool in the evening to keep the heat in. You can walk down the (steep) hill and get a bus straight to Split, otherwise it’s 30-40 min drive. Most things are driving distance. Gorgeous scenery and views from the Villa. We had a few things we needed when we arrived like bbq utensils and coffee pods and she dropped them off within the hour. We had a late flight and Ivana kindly let us have a later check out. Thank you for looking after us! Recommend highly!
