The views of Omis, its surrounding islands, the glistening azure sea and the Omiska Dinara hills are sensational from Villa Milana’s wonderful elevated position. Omis is located 25km south of Split on Croatia’s gorgeous Dalmatian coast. It was once a famous pirate town. The town’s excellent seamen navigated the Adriatic sea, keeping it wealthy and safe, with fortified walls built in the late 12th century to protect it from invaders. The Omis Riviera scenery is incredibly dramatic, with sharp, jagged mountains and gorges all around, together with dazzling turquoise waters. Omis is brimming with ancient buildings and churches. Visitors enjoy the 13th-century Fortress Mirabella and 15th-century Fortress Starigrad, otherwise known as Fortica Fortress, silent reminders of the power and might of the infamous Omis pirates. St Michael’s Square is sprinkled with charming cafes, bars and restaurants. The town enjoys a fabulous reputation for its gastronomy.
Villa Milana is newly built, replacing an old family stone house. Its design follows traditional architecture though its interiors and furnishings are thoroughly modern. The main villa is set on one floor with a mezzanine in the main living space and a separate apartment connected with an outdoor staircase. The villa’s main living space is open-plan in design and enjoys a gorgeous vaulted ceiling and contemporary furniture. You can relax on the modern corner sofa watching the smart television or gazing out at the wonderful scenery. The dining area is very smart, and the kitchen offers excellent stainless steel appliances, including a huge American-style fridge freezer and a Nespresso coffee machine. The living space opens to a balcony and terrace with a gorgeous alfresco lounge area.
The master bedroom is a delightful double with a beautifully dressed king-size bed, which enjoys stunning views and access to the balcony and south terrace. The second bedroom has a bunk bed with a single bed on the top and a larger one on the bottom. A family bathroom is located next to both bedrooms, a beautiful space with marbled tiling and contemporary fittings. Stairs lead from the living area to a mezzanine floor bedroom, a super cute attic room with two single beds and a separate toilet with a sink.
The lower ground floor is home to a separate apartment that sits above the parking area. It offers a sleek, smart living area with smart television and Playstation 5, a dining table for two, a small kitchen, a shower room and the final bedroom with a kingsize bed. This is a great space for grandparents or young adults who might appreciate a little privacy.
The outside space of Villa Milana is wonderful. With breathtaking views over the pretty Church of St Stephen, the city of Omis, the glistening Adriatic sea, the islands and the dramatic hills, you will enjoy privacy and peace. The swimming pool offers hydro massage as well as these excellent views. There are several sun decks where you can laze on quality loungers enjoying your holiday books. There is a handy outdoor shower and parasols for shade. The alfresco dining area is delightful, where guests can enjoy watching the sun set. A traditional stone barbecue is located near the main entrance of the villa, next to the alfresco dining area. The garden area is equipped with a small playground with a slide and toys for the little ones.

If you do not have much time in Split you may want to take a walking tour with a guide to make sure that you do not miss anything. You can also take a segway tour. The Dalmatian coast is a veritable treasure trove of stunning landscapes and historic towns, and Omis, situated halfway between the famous port city of Split and the energetic town of Maksarka, is no exception. With its rich history, scenic backdrop, and a plethora of attractions, Omis stands out as a unique and captivating destination for those seeking to explore the charm of Croatia. The town's history is deeply intertwined with its dramatic geographical setting, which is dominated by the imposing Cetina River Canyon and the Mosor Mountain Range.
The old town of Omis, with its narrow cobblestone streets and stone houses, is a place where history and culture converge. It’s a charming place to explore on foot and soak up the local way of life. There are a number of historic churches that you’ll come across while exploring - the Church of St. Michael, the Church of St. Peter, and the Church of St. Rocco, which all showcase intricate architectural details and a sense of reverence. The old town is also home to an abundance of restaurants, cafes, and local shops, it’s an excellent spot to savour authentic Croatian dishes and find unique souvenirs.
One of the most prominent historical attractions in the town is the Mirabella Fortress, often called Peovica. Perched high on a rocky outcrop, this fortress was built during the 13th century and was used as a hideout by the notorious Omis pirates who terrorised the Adriatic Sea. Today, visitors can climb up the steep path to the fortress and enjoy panoramic views of the town, the coast, and the surrounding landscapes.
Omis boasts a pristine stretch of coastline with a variety of beaches, each catering to different tastes. One of the most popular is the sandy beach at the mouth of the Cetina River, offering calm waters perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Adventurous spirits may prefer the pebbly beach of Brzet, known for its perfect conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Just a short drive from Omis, there's the small village of Stanici, which is renowned for its unspoiled beaches and crystal-clear waters. It's a serene place to relax and escape the crowds often found in more touristy locations.
The Cetina River is a defining feature of Omis, and one of the most exhilarating activities here is to take a rafting excursion along its emerald waters. The river cuts through the impressive Cetina Canyon, creating a thrilling white-water rafting experience that appeals to adventure seekers and nature lovers alike. The journey offers panoramic views of the rugged cliffs, lush forests, and the charming villages that dot the landscape.
The nearby Biokovo Nature Park is an outstanding natural attraction. The Biokovo Mountain Range, part of the Dinaric Alps, offers incredible hiking opportunities, with well-marked trails leading to panoramic viewpoints where you can marvel at the Adriatic Sea and the islands scattered along the coast. The juxtaposition of the rugged mountain terrain and the azure waters is simply stunning and will leave a lasting impression.
The history, natural beauty, and cultural vitality of Omis combine to create a destination that is rich in character and charm. Whether you're seeking adventure on the Cetina River, exploring the medieval fortresses, or simply savouring the local cuisine, Omis has something to offer every traveller who ventures to this utterly enchanting corner of the Dalmatian coast.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesVilla Milana is ideal for a family holiday. There are two bedrooms that are perfect for children, one with bunk beds and another with twins. The separate apartment is okay for young adults but not for young children. The pool is lovely.
Families enjoy fabulous beach days nearby and on the Makarska Riviera. Markarska is very popular for its ice-cream parlours, beaches, harbour and the Makarska Observatory where small children can observe the clear skies and planets through the telescope. You can take boat trips over to the islands from the harbour.
Children adore active days on the thrilling Cetina River. There are many exciting adventures including swimming, rock climbing, jumping, canyoning, rafting and ziplining. The 2km of ziplines crossing the canyon can travel at speeds up to 65km an hour. Qualified instructors take little ones tandem on the zipwires. Paragliding and hang-gliding is relatively new in Omis but the high cliffs rising from the Adriatic Sea and the breathtaking beauty of the city, Cetina canyon and the Omis Riviera make it a fabulous place to try it. Although paragliding is an extreme sport, there are tandem flights so younger guests can enjoy it.
Harry Potter and Game of Thrones fans will love visiting the cellar in the Diocletian’s Palace in Split where Deanerys kept her dragons and other locations around the town. The Klis Fortress on the hillside overlooking Split was used in Game of Thrones. Children enjoy climbing to the top of the bell tower of St Domnius Cathedral.
Another fabulous excursion popular with families is to the Plitvice Lakes National Park which was granted UNESCO World Heritage status in 1979. The park’s sixteen stunning lakes are inter-connected by a series of waterfalls. The park is absolutely stunning, a place you will never forget.
Another fantastic day trip is to the remarkable Krka National Park. Visitors take a boat ride through the park from Skradin to Skradinski and can swim, stand under spring water waterfalls and jump off rocks. The scenery is spectacular with top attractions including the magnificent Skradinski and Buk waterfalls, the small island of Visovac and the Roski Slap waterfall. Tickets can be bought in advance or at the park.

Photos do not do location justice!
Immaculate villa with roof terrace and swimming pool all overlooking a sea view (photos do not do location justice) separate one bed annexe which we did not need. Twin beds on mezzanine level are best for kids or teenagers rather than adults,
kitchen is rather sparsely equipped, just one kitchen knife for instance. Nice little barbeque area.
Villa located on steep and winding road out of OMIS so car needed. Great location for beaches and gorge activities such as ziplining, rafting. Easy drive to Split. Omis is small and easy to navigate for restaurants and shopping etc
Host Ante and his sister made us very welcome and looked after us (amongst many kind deeds, sent back driving licence lost under a bed within a week). -
Superb!
We were contacted by the owner a few days before departure to align on arrival time. Met by Ante on arrival and we were given a tour of the villa. There was cold beer and orange juice in the fridge, ice in the ice tray. Superb!

Very very good
We spend 2 weeks in this villa and never was tired of the wonderful view over the Ocean and the Islands. The villa is newly built and looked exactly as great as the pictures. We were welcomed by Ante at arrival, and he and the family was very kind and service minded during our stay. We especially enjoyed a private sailing day and river rafting with Jure, well planned to avoid the crowded periods of the day.

Highly recommended.
Spent a fabulous week at Villa Milana, lovely hosts and a beautiful setting. The gilthead bream that Ante had caught that morning were fantastic on the BBQ. Highly recommended.
