Location
About the surrounding area of Villa PollyAround 12km east of Omiš, Mimice is an attractive spot on Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast, looking out towards the large island of Brač. It lies around 30 minutes’ drive from Makarska and one hour from Split.
Omiš sits at the mouth of the Cetina River. It has a long and rich history, with stories of the town’s notorious pirates running amok in the Middle Ages among those you are bound to discover. In the 13th and 14th century, they were the most-feared in the Adriatic, and used the river to make a quick getaway after attacking passing trade ships. In summer, Pirate Night tours are a popular attraction, telling tales of the pirates in a more family-friendly way.
Omiš is a pleasant place to spend your time with lovely beaches and a wealth of great restaurants and cafés. It’s visually impressive, with steep cliffs providing a backdrop to the Old Town, where you can find a Franciscan monastery and several old churches, in addition to the Mirabella fortress, dating from the 13th century. At the top of the mountain, there is also the Starigrad fortress – it’s quite a climb, but a rewarding one.
Olive groves and vineyards lend their magic to the beautiful areas which surround the town, and the Cetina gives you the opportunity to try out water-sports like rafting, canyoning and canoeing. Omiš is something of a cultural hub too. The town hosts festivals celebrating music and theatre on a regular basis, with an annual highlight being the Festival of Dalmatian Klapas each summer.

Region
The Dalmatian coast is a veritable treasure trove of stunning landscapes and historic towns, and Omis, situated halfway between the famous port city of Split and the energetic town of Maksarka, is no exception. With its rich history, scenic backdrop, and a plethora of attractions, Omis stands out as a unique and captivating destination for those seeking to explore the charm of Croatia. The town's history is deeply intertwined with its dramatic geographical setting, which is dominated by the imposing Cetina River Canyon and the Mosor Mountain Range.
The old town of Omis, with its narrow cobblestone streets and stone houses, is a place where history and culture converge. It’s a charming place to explore on foot and soak up the local way of life. There are a number of historic churches that you’ll come across while exploring - the Church of St. Michael, the Church of St. Peter, and the Church of St. Rocco, which all showcase intricate architectural details and a sense of reverence. The old town is also home to an abundance of restaurants, cafes, and local shops, it’s an excellent spot to savour authentic Croatian dishes and find unique souvenirs.
One of the most prominent historical attractions in the town is the Mirabella Fortress, often called Peovica. Perched high on a rocky outcrop, this fortress was built during the 13th century and was used as a hideout by the notorious Omis pirates who terrorised the Adriatic Sea. Today, visitors can climb up the steep path to the fortress and enjoy panoramic views of the town, the coast, and the surrounding landscapes.
Omis boasts a pristine stretch of coastline with a variety of beaches, each catering to different tastes. One of the most popular is the sandy beach at the mouth of the Cetina River, offering calm waters perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Adventurous spirits may prefer the pebbly beach of Brzet, known for its perfect conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Just a short drive from Omis, there's the small village of Stanici, which is renowned for its unspoiled beaches and crystal-clear waters. It's a serene place to relax and escape the crowds often found in more touristy locations.
The Cetina River is a defining feature of Omis, and one of the most exhilarating activities here is to take a rafting excursion along its emerald waters. The river cuts through the impressive Cetina Canyon, creating a thrilling white-water rafting experience that appeals to adventure seekers and nature lovers alike. The journey offers panoramic views of the rugged cliffs, lush forests, and the charming villages that dot the landscape.
The nearby Biokovo Nature Park is an outstanding natural attraction. The Biokovo Mountain Range, part of the Dinaric Alps, offers incredible hiking opportunities, with well-marked trails leading to panoramic viewpoints where you can marvel at the Adriatic Sea and the islands scattered along the coast. The juxtaposition of the rugged mountain terrain and the azure waters is simply stunning and will leave a lasting impression.
The history, natural beauty, and cultural vitality of Omis combine to create a destination that is rich in character and charm. Whether you're seeking adventure on the Cetina River, exploring the medieval fortresses, or simply savouring the local cuisine, Omis has something to offer every traveller who ventures to this utterly enchanting corner of the Dalmatian coast.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesThe children will enjoy all that Villa Polly has to offer, especially the stunning sun terrace and private pool. Inside, there’s all the tech they could wish for, keeping them connected with Wi-Fi, and entertained with TV, movies and music. There’s even a mini-gym for keeping in shape too.
This region has plenty to amuse children of all ages, with Omiš full of pirate-themed adventures and fun sporting activities – the zip-line ride across the River Cetina is not something they will forget. Head up the coast towards Split and you’ll find many enticing beaches along the way, and when you arrive in the city, a ton of family-friendly attractions.
Try the semi-submarine, aquarium or a trip to Marjan Hill for a great day out with younger children, while the older ones might be attracted by the beach parties and clubs of the Riva waterfront. If that sounds too full-on, it’s still a cool place to hang out with coffee bars and cafés by the dozen.

A fantastic Play to Stay!
We stayed here for a few weeks in August 19. Wow!! It was absolutely fantastic. The villa is beautiful - very well thought out with every detail taken into account. A wonderful high end finish, with everything you could possibly need.
If there is anything extra, then Miro is on hand to help. A genuinely helpful kind person, where nothing is too much trouble. We arrived late with 2 young children, and Miro was on hand to unload the cases, show us around, and had even bought in some light snacks to save us going back out in the evening. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble. Local maps, support and suggestions were really useful.
Views from the house in all directions are wonderful, and the beaches at the bottom of the road are just idyllic! I would recommend a car for getting around (the road up to the villa is also quite steep) but these can be hired at very low cost.
One of the most relaxing holidays we have had in a long time! A special thanks to Miro too!
I would certainly recommend to anyone and we shall definitely be back!
Don't miss out! Reserve now and get a full refund if you change your mind within 48hrs.
