Smolonje is only 12km from the sea and beach. The mini-market is 2km away. You can order the traditional dish ‘peka’ in the local tavern only 1km away. Delicious – you should try it!

You can totally relax in this awe-inspiring location but very quickly (approximately 15 minutes) get to the small Mediterranean town Omis which offers many historical attractions and restaurants. In the 13th and 14th century Omis was the home of pirates! They would attack trade ships at the mouth of the river and return up the Cetina river where they could not be followed. The Cetina river, with its amazing canyon and zip-line, rafting and canoeing are incredible for those seeking an adrenaline rush! One of the highlights of the Omis summer festival is the Klapa festival (a capella singing) in the churches and squares of the old town if you happen to be there. The sandy beach is idyllic.

The most popular tourist attractions on the Dalmation coast are only half an hour away from such as Split with its a great history, Makarska Riviera or Trogir (45 minutes away). It is approximately 1hr 30m from the stunning Krka waterfalls and Skradin. Trips can be taken to Brac from Makarska or Split. Makarska is popular for its nature park, nightlife, harbour and beach and shopping and lunch in Kacic Square. Why not take a walking tour with wine tasting and a local ‘peka’ meal in Split?

You will tour through the historical centre and see sights such as the Golden Gate, Diocletian’s Palace built for the Roman emperor in 305 CE, the Jewish Ghetto and much more. Trogir’s preserved old town, known for its a mix of Renaissance, Baroque and Romanesque buildings, lies on a small island connected to the mainland and the island of Ciovo by bridges. The serious adventurers can even rock climb around historical sites dating back to the 15th century with professional and licenced guides at Marjan Park 40 minutes away. The not so adventurous can enjoy the forests and trails!

You can always speak to our Concierge team for further information about trips available in the area.

The nearest airport is SPU, Split’s airport, which is 35km away. It is an easy drive to the villa where there is space for three cars.

Region

The Dalmatian coast is a veritable treasure trove of stunning landscapes and historic towns, and Omis, situated halfway between the famous port city of Split and the energetic town of Maksarka, is no exception. With its rich history, scenic backdrop, and a plethora of attractions, Omis stands out as a unique and captivating destination for those seeking to explore the charm of Croatia. The town's history is deeply intertwined with its dramatic geographical setting, which is dominated by the imposing Cetina River Canyon and the Mosor Mountain Range.

The old town of Omis, with its narrow cobblestone streets and stone houses, is a place where history and culture converge. It’s a charming place to explore on foot and soak up the local way of life. There are a number of historic churches that you’ll come across while exploring - the Church of St. Michael, the Church of St. Peter, and the Church of St. Rocco, which all showcase intricate architectural details and a sense of reverence. The old town is also home to an abundance of restaurants, cafes, and local shops, it’s an excellent spot to savour authentic Croatian dishes and find unique souvenirs.

One of the most prominent historical attractions in the town is the Mirabella Fortress, often called Peovica. Perched high on a rocky outcrop, this fortress was built during the 13th century and was used as a hideout by the notorious Omis pirates who terrorised the Adriatic Sea. Today, visitors can climb up the steep path to the fortress and enjoy panoramic views of the town, the coast, and the surrounding landscapes.

Omis boasts a pristine stretch of coastline with a variety of beaches, each catering to different tastes. One of the most popular is the sandy beach at the mouth of the Cetina River, offering calm waters perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Adventurous spirits may prefer the pebbly beach of Brzet, known for its perfect conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Just a short drive from Omis, there's the small village of Stanici, which is renowned for its unspoiled beaches and crystal-clear waters. It's a serene place to relax and escape the crowds often found in more touristy locations.

The Cetina River is a defining feature of Omis, and one of the most exhilarating activities here is to take a rafting excursion along its emerald waters. The river cuts through the impressive Cetina Canyon, creating a thrilling white-water rafting experience that appeals to adventure seekers and nature lovers alike. The journey offers panoramic views of the rugged cliffs, lush forests, and the charming villages that dot the landscape.

The nearby Biokovo Nature Park is an outstanding natural attraction. The Biokovo Mountain Range, part of the Dinaric Alps, offers incredible hiking opportunities, with well-marked trails leading to panoramic viewpoints where you can marvel at the Adriatic Sea and the islands scattered along the coast. The juxtaposition of the rugged mountain terrain and the azure waters is simply stunning and will leave a lasting impression.

The history, natural beauty, and cultural vitality of Omis combine to create a destination that is rich in character and charm. Whether you're seeking adventure on the Cetina River, exploring the medieval fortresses, or simply savouring the local cuisine, Omis has something to offer every traveller who ventures to this utterly enchanting corner of the Dalmatian coast.

There are so many adventures to keep children busy outside of the house they will never be bored. Why not raft the rapids of a 10km descent down the Cetina River which is very close by? On the trip, you get to jump off rocks up to 5 metres high, swim and take a shower under a spring water waterfall. The Krka National Park is one of 8 beautiful national parks in Croatia.

The stunning waterfalls and crystal clear water are perfect for a swim and play in the water. You can also take a scenic boat ride in nearby Skradin. Children will love going out on a speedboat island hopping from Split. They can experience the miracle of nature at the Blue Cave on Bisevo Island on this trip. Reviews

  • Lovely quiet retreat with pool in the mountains but close to Omis

    on 19/08/2024

Our party of 14 had a great time at Villa Remy, which is a lovely quiet retreat with a nice pool, up in the mountains, 15 minutes from Omis. The roads are narrow and winding, so don't get a huge car. The villa is well presented and exactly as pictured and described. Our host Matko was friendly, met us on arrival and departure, and was very responsive when we had a couple of questions.
We would strongly recommend booking the wonderful Chef Martin through Oliver's Travels to cook you a meal. He cooked and his sister served a terrific feast of local dishes, with olive oil and vegetables from his family's farm. He brought the wine and took away the dirty dishes - what more could you ask!
