Location
About the surrounding area of Villa TaitusA small harbour town on the Dalmatian Coast, Omiš sits at the mouth of the Cetina River. It has a long and rich history, with stories of the town’s notorious pirates running amok in the Middle Ages among those you are bound to discover. In the 13th and 14th century, they were the most-feared in the Adriatic, and used the river to make a quick getaway after attacking passing trade ships. In summer, Pirate Night tours are a popular attraction, telling tales of the pirates in a more family-friendly way.
Omiš is a pleasant place to spend your time with lovely beaches and a wealth of great restaurants and cafés. It’s visually impressive, with steep cliffs providing a backdrop to the Old Town, where you can find a Franciscan monastery and several old churches, in addition to the Mirabella fortress, dating from the 13th century. At the top of the mountain, there is also the Starigrad fortress – it’s quite a climb, but a rewarding one.
Olive groves and vineyards lend their magic to the beautiful areas which surround the town, and the Cetina gives you the opportunity to try out water-sports like rafting, canyoning and canoeing.
Omiš is something of a cultural hub too. The town hosts festivals celebrating music and theatre on a regular basis, with an annual highlight being the Festival of Dalmatian Klapas each summer. Split is also easily accessible from Omiš, around 25km away, so it’s easy to take a bus or mini-van to see the Diocletian Palace, the Cathedral of St Domnius or the town’s strangely unmissable frog museum.

Region
The Dalmatian coast is a veritable treasure trove of stunning landscapes and historic towns, and Omis, situated halfway between the famous port city of Split and the energetic town of Maksarka, is no exception. With its rich history, scenic backdrop, and a plethora of attractions, Omis stands out as a unique and captivating destination for those seeking to explore the charm of Croatia. The town's history is deeply intertwined with its dramatic geographical setting, which is dominated by the imposing Cetina River Canyon and the Mosor Mountain Range.
The old town of Omis, with its narrow cobblestone streets and stone houses, is a place where history and culture converge. It’s a charming place to explore on foot and soak up the local way of life. There are a number of historic churches that you’ll come across while exploring - the Church of St. Michael, the Church of St. Peter, and the Church of St. Rocco, which all showcase intricate architectural details and a sense of reverence. The old town is also home to an abundance of restaurants, cafes, and local shops, it’s an excellent spot to savour authentic Croatian dishes and find unique souvenirs.
One of the most prominent historical attractions in the town is the Mirabella Fortress, often called Peovica. Perched high on a rocky outcrop, this fortress was built during the 13th century and was used as a hideout by the notorious Omis pirates who terrorised the Adriatic Sea. Today, visitors can climb up the steep path to the fortress and enjoy panoramic views of the town, the coast, and the surrounding landscapes.
Omis boasts a pristine stretch of coastline with a variety of beaches, each catering to different tastes. One of the most popular is the sandy beach at the mouth of the Cetina River, offering calm waters perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Adventurous spirits may prefer the pebbly beach of Brzet, known for its perfect conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Just a short drive from Omis, there's the small village of Stanici, which is renowned for its unspoiled beaches and crystal-clear waters. It's a serene place to relax and escape the crowds often found in more touristy locations.
The Cetina River is a defining feature of Omis, and one of the most exhilarating activities here is to take a rafting excursion along its emerald waters. The river cuts through the impressive Cetina Canyon, creating a thrilling white-water rafting experience that appeals to adventure seekers and nature lovers alike. The journey offers panoramic views of the rugged cliffs, lush forests, and the charming villages that dot the landscape.
The nearby Biokovo Nature Park is an outstanding natural attraction. The Biokovo Mountain Range, part of the Dinaric Alps, offers incredible hiking opportunities, with well-marked trails leading to panoramic viewpoints where you can marvel at the Adriatic Sea and the islands scattered along the coast. The juxtaposition of the rugged mountain terrain and the azure waters is simply stunning and will leave a lasting impression.
The history, natural beauty, and cultural vitality of Omis combine to create a destination that is rich in character and charm. Whether you're seeking adventure on the Cetina River, exploring the medieval fortresses, or simply savouring the local cuisine, Omis has something to offer every traveller who ventures to this utterly enchanting corner of the Dalmatian coast.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesThere’s a lot for the children to love at Villa Taitus, from the pool to the outdoor playground and even a sauna if they fancy one. The house is equipped with satellite TV and Wi-Fi, plus there’s a pool table and a gym too.
All this is just a short drive from loads of beaches, and all the fun to be had in Omiš – rafting tours down the river are great for all ages, and younger ones will love all the pirate-themed adventures. Down the coast in Split, there’s everything from an aquarium to a frog museum and a semi-submerged submarine – and if you head a bit further in the direction of Šibenik, the Dalmatia Aquapark is the place to slide and splash right by the sea.

The house is wonderful!
The house is wonderful! Very quiet location with a very friendly owner. We received local food and drink upon arrival. Extremely clean, according to the pictures and a dream for a longer stay. We recommend the Palacio restaurant nearby. We will be back definitely!
-

Highly recommended
All in all, a highly recommended accommodation. Check in and check out works smoothly. The location to Split can also be reached quickly with just a 35-minute drive (car). Very friendly contact person. There is nothing missing either in the house or in the outdoor area. Always worth a new visit

Amazing villa
This was our first time visiting Croatia and we could not have had a better holiday, this villa was amazing and had everything we needed to keep us all entertained, we are a family of 10 and it accommodated us brilliantly, the pool room, gym and sauna were used everyday as we had 3 teenagers with us and Marko the host was amazing throughout, we contacted him a few times with various queries and he responded very quickly, he arranged an early check in at very short notice, gave us restaurant recommendations and met us at the house on day 1 to show us how to use everything, I could not fault this villa and would definitely visit again, thank you Marko.

Peaceful location!
Villa is beautiful, very peaceful location with a gorgeous view. Very well equipped. Owner Marko was very welcoming and helpful.

It was perfect!
We stayed at this Villa (2 families - 4 adults and 4 kids) and it was perfect! The house was super clean and spotless, the host was nice and welcoming, and the location couldn't have been better. The house is about 10 minutes from Omis, which was super convenient for us when swimming at the pristine beach, shopping or dining out for lunch/dinner. It definitely requires a car to get to though, so we have rented a car while we stayed here. The house is clean, big and spacious with nice heated pool, sauna and tramploline, and there was also a gym and a pool table, so it was very nice staying at the house. Finally, our host Marko wouldn't have been more helpful - he was communicative, accomodating and simply so welcoming, and it made our stay at the house (and in Croatia in general) really nice. We would certainly stay here again and would recommend that to anyone, especially if you are in a big group!

Absolutely perfect
The villa was absolutely perfect. We stayed with our extended family including children who loved the trampoline and the pool, they were in all day every day and had the time of their lives. The villa had absolutely everything we needed and more and was the perfect place to relax and spend time together. The village of Naklice has a beautiful restaurant providing amazing food like we’ve never had before! Marko had great recommendations and was a really accommodating host who couldn’t have done more for us. We would highly recommend the zip line in Omis too, it was amazing! We highly recommend Villa Zora and hope to be back! Thank you Marko.

3rd visit to this villa and we loved it

Would definitely recommend
Would definitely recommend staying at this villa.. Really beautiful Villa - extremely clean and modern. Great value for money. My 2 year old absolutely loved the pool, trampoline and garden! Location is great - really secluded and beautiful surroundings but close to Omis for lots of restaurants, kid friendly beach and boat trips. Marko was a fantastic host - super responsive and went out of his way for us multiple times - including getting food in for us when our flight was delayed. Thanks for an amazing holiday.

We has a great week.
We had a great week. The Villa was amazing, is in a great location, very peaceful and well equipped . The owner , Marko , was a great host, very helpful and made us feel welcome. We had a lovely spread of cold meats bread and fruit when we arrived and a bottle of home-made wine. Marko recommended a sailing trip around Brac.

We felt very comfortable and can/will definitely recommend the villa.
We had a really great time with you at Villa. The house has everything you need for a relaxing holiday and is equipped with all the things you need on holiday with children. Our host Marko was always available, responded quickly and helped immediately. The surrounding area is very quiet and with a short drive of about 10 minutes you can reach Omis and one of the numerous beaches. We felt very comfortable and can/will definitely recommend the villa.

10/10 would recommend
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this villa - beautiful location within close driving distance to Omis town (10mins) which had various activities to do. Villa was beautiful, clean and just as shown in the pictures. Host was responsive and friendly. 10/10 would recommend.

Absolutely wonderful
We have just returned from a 12 night stay at this beautiful villa and none of us wanted to leave. The villa is perfect - modern, clean, very well equipped and peaceful. The surrounding area is absolutely beautiful. A car is an essential but it is only a short drive from the nearest town and some beautiful beaches. The area felt quite secluded but this meant it was very quiet and we didn’t feel isolated as the restaurants, shops and beaches of Omis were easily accessible by car. The pool was clean and heated. The owner Marko was very welcoming and friendly, as were his family members that we met at different occasions over the time we stayed. He responded to any queries I had quickly. We were welcomed on arrival by his sister and cousin with a spread of food and wine and Marko made the effort to come and welcome us later that day and also early on a Sunday when we left. We would really struggle to fault it! Thank you Marko and Oliver’s Travels for such a lovely family holiday!

Home from home
We had an amazing week at Villa Taitus. It’s a beautiful home from home in a peaceful area, yet 10 minutes drive from the town of Omis. Our host, Marko, was so friendly, helpful and accommodating, providing recommendations locally and answering any queries swiftly and efficiently. Marko greeted us on arrival with a beautiful spread of fresh local food, and wine made by his lovely father. During the week we were left a basket of fruit grown in his grandmother’s garden.
The villa was perfect- clean, spacious, family friendly and comfortable with all mod cons. Definitely recommend and planning to return to explore more of beautiful Croatia. Thank you Marko!
