This villa is located in Poreč, a charming area full of things to see and do and also home to gorgeous beaches. All are less than two miles from the property. Nearby, Poreč has a captivating main square within the Old Town, with charming cobblestone streets, Roman walls and colourful cafes. It's a great spot for people watching and strolling down to the harbour, where you can take a boat trip to spot dolphins at sunset.

Istria has a strong Italian influence, being just two hours from Venice and a Roman history. It's easy to hop across the border and spend a day exploring Italy during your holiday. The Istrian heart-shaped coastline is absolutely stunning and a little less touristy than other areas in Croatia.

There's no shortage of beaches in the area - Borik beach is just 800m away, with a pebbly shoreline and glittering waters. You can play beach volleyball and miniature golf, or just go for a relaxing swim in the sea. Borik beach has a great view of the Old Town and it is accessible for wheelchair users. For a more natural beach, blue-flag Oliva beach is perfect. The beach is on the island of St. Nikola and accessed by a five-minute boat ride. Oliva has a forest of oak and pine trees, a pebbly coast and feels unspoilt.

The food of Istria is a reason to visit in itself, as the region is famous for its delicious gastronomy and fresh ingredients. A local favourite is pljukanci, a hand-rolled pasta dish served with all manner of sauces. In the winter, the aroma of hot roasted chestnuts wafts around the centre. Istria is also famous for its wine - you can take a tour of a winery or vineyard and enjoy a glass of Refošk or Malvazija. Admire the views of rolling hills and rows of grapes.

The Euphrasian Basilica is one of the most important sights in the Istrian area. It is a World Heritage Site and dates back to the 6th-century. The basilica was inspired by Byzantine art and features breathtaking blue and gold mosaics, carved arches and geometric marble designs. Climb up the bell tower to get an outstanding view of Poreč. Zuccato Gallery is the place to check out some vibrant art in a Gothic palace. There's an array of temporary exhibitions to explore.

Anyone visiting Istria should take a day trip to Brijuni National Park, an archipelago of 14 small islands that can be reached by boat from Pula. The islands are famous for their natural beauty and indigenous flora and fauna. Enjoy a scenic boat ride with views of the southwestern peninsula before you reach. There are dinosaur footprints in four areas on the largest island, Viliki Brijuni, and many other archaeological wonders.

Poreč is a charming town situated on the western coast of the Istrian Peninsula in Croatia, known for its rich history, stunning beaches, and vibrant Mediterranean atmosphere. The main street of Poreč, the Decumanus, is lined with quaint shops, cozy cafes, and traditional Istrian restaurants, offering a delightful blend of the town’s rich past alongside modern-day living. The town's historic centre is a labyrinth of cobbled streets and narrow alleys that reveal hidden treasures at every turn, inviting visitors to explore the heart of Poreč on foot.

A short stroll from the Decumanus is one of the most iconic landmarks in Poreč, the Euphrasian Basilica. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this stunning complex dating back to the 6th century, showcases remarkable Byzantine architecture and breathtaking mosaics that recount religious stories. Visitors can admire the intricate details of the mosaics and soak in the ambiance of a structure that has withstood the test of time.

Beyond the historical streets, Poreč is famous for its breathtaking beaches. The pristine Adriatic coastline beckons sun-seekers and water sports enthusiasts. Zelena Laguna, Plava Laguna, and Brulo Beach are just a few of the coastal areas worth exploring. This collection of islands is one of Croatia’s eight national parks, and is famous for its diverse nature and rich history. With attractions such as a safari park with exotic animals, and the island’s famous dinosaur footprints, it’s a wonderful place to explore as a family.

For travellers interested in exploring beyond the town, Poreč is ideally located for day trips to other Istrian destinations. Just a short drive away, you'll find Rovinj, a picturesque coastal town with a vibrant artistic community that is brimming with creativity. Motovun, a hilltop village town known for its absolutely stunning views, is also an easy day trip. These nearby destinations add to the allure of Poreč as a base for exploring the diverse beauty of the Istrian Peninsula.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Istria is a great area for families travelling with children, as there's plenty for little ones and teenagers alike to do. The villa has lots of space for kids to relax and enjoy the sunshine, not to mention the gorgeous pool. There's plenty of space to splash around and show off their swimming skills. Family cycling tours are popular in the Istria area - exploring on two wheels is a great way to soak up the sights.

Poreč itself is a lovely town for kids to explore, with its charming cobblestoned streets and lovely harbour. A leisurely stroll around town and popping into cute cafes for an ice cream should keep them busy for a while.

Aquapark Istrialanda is just 7 miles from the villa - filled with 20 water rides and the largest wave pool in the Mediterranean. A water park is always a popular idea with kids - thrillseekers will love the high-energy water slides. Little ones get their own dedicated pool with a water castle, pirate ship and some smaller water slides. The park has enough to keep them entertained for a full day out.

Adventure-loving kids will adore Glavani Park, with its soaring high ropes course with a range of heights. There is a zip line that is 113 metres long - kids will zoom through the treetops and cross the Devil's Causeway suspension bridge.

Dinopark Funtana is the place to take kids who love dinosaurs - there are moving life-size dinosaurs and circus shows. Plenty of quirky activities are on offer, like a dino-themed shooting range. The park is currently being renovated, but will reopen in April in time for summer holiday fun.

Of course, most kids will be eager for a beach day - while the Istrian beaches are pebbly or made up of fine rocks rather than sand, they're certainly beautiful. Some beaches are shallow, making them perfect for little ones' first outings in the sea. Borik beach, which is particularly close to the villa, is especially well suited for kids. They can get involved in the beach sports or there is a special Kids Club that they can attend.
