Location
About the surrounding area of Leda ApartmentLeda Apartment is located in the picturesque town of Primosten, Dalmatia. Once a separate island, and a quaint fishing town, Primosten was linked to the mainland in the 16th century, and manages to marry both ‘then’ and ‘now’, with pretty stone houses and narrow, paved streets sitting happily alongside modern restaurants and taverns. Primarily known as a holiday resort, Primosten is now a favourite destination for those who crave a peaceful and relaxing stay, providing the perfect ‘base’ for your Croatian holiday. There is easy access to the other towns, cities and sights that Dalmatia has to offer - yet there is still plenty to enjoy in Primosten as a destination in its own right.
Strolling through the quiet streets and taking in the architecture is a favourite pastime of visitors here, as is dining in one of the fantastic restaurants in the town. One such favourite with tourists is Tavern Marina. Located right by the sea and with a penchant for sourcing locally produced ingredients, this popular eatery is well-known for its mouthwatering meat and fish dishes. If it’s after-dinner drinks you’re interested in, take a walk to Bau Bar where you’ll find a dazzling array of cocktails to tempt the taste buds.
Primosten is just a short trip from Sibenik - the ‘gateway to the Kornati Islands’ - and not a place to overlook while you are in this part of the world. This often underrated urban gem boasts historical wonders, uncrowded coastline and amazing wine - not to mention being one of the locations for the filming of the popular TV show, Game of Thrones. You’ll find the famous Cathedral of St James here, as well as the city museum, the impressive Franciscan Church and Monastery, and St Michael’s Castle, all stunning pieces of architecture that are well-worth visiting.
When you’ve taken in the sights and built up an appetite, why not sample some local cuisine at one of the many seafood restaurants that can be found hidden among the winding streets. Adriatic lobster, sea bass, squid and langoustines are all plentiful here - and be sure to wash it all down with some local wine. Winery Rak has been a family run operation in the area since 1960 and uses Babic and Marastine grapes to produce its white, red and rose wines. The small-scale production of this winery means it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to sample these wines in the UK, so once you’ve sampled their wares in their dedicated tasting room, be sure to snare a bottle to take home!

Region
Perched on the Adriatic coast of Croatia, Primošten is a stunning seaside town that beckons visitors with its warm Mediterranean charm. This enchanting destination is more than just a picturesque coastal enclave; it's a place where the past gracefully meets the present, and where breathtaking landscapes paint the perfect backdrop for a memorable vacation.
Primošten features pretty, stone streets that wind their way through the town. You'll feel as though you've stepped back in time as you explore the ancient architecture and discover the many quaint shops and restaurants.
The white stone Church of St. George, perched on a hill at the heart of the town, is a must-visit attraction. Its bell tower offers an excellent vantage point to take in panoramic views of the town and the sea. As you stroll through the old town, you'll also come across the famous Bucavac, a circular stone tower that was once a key part of the town's defence system. It now serves as a cultural venue and a reminder of the town's fortified past.
The area’s coastline is dotted with picturesque coves and pebble beaches, making it a haven for beach lovers. The crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic are perfect for swimming and snorkelling, and paddle-boarding and kayaking are a popular way of exploring the coast. The most famous beach in Primosten is Mall Raduca, a Blue Flag beach known for its clean, safe waters and pristine surroundings.
A delightful way to immerse yourself in the peninsula’s natural beauty is by taking a walk through the Primošten Vineyards. These remarkable stone-walled vineyards date back to the 16th century and are now a UNESCO World Heritage site. The breathtaking vistas of the Adriatic Sea and the charming town below will take your breath away.
You can sample the local wines produced from these vineyards in the traditional restaurants along Primosten’s waterfront, which also serve up a variety of freshly caught fish and shellfish. A must-try dish is the Dalmatian classic, "Peka," a hearty dish made from meat or seafood slow-cooked with potatoes and vegetables under a bell-shaped lid. For those with a sweet tooth, don't forget to finish with "Rozata," a traditional Croatian custard dessert with a caramelised sugar glaze - a taste of heaven on a plate!
Primošten's proximity to the Dalmatian islands adds another layer of allure to this peninsula. Take a day trip to the nearby Kornati Islands, a national park consisting of 89 stunning islands and islets. The Kornati archipelago is a sailor's paradise, with its crystalline waters and numerous coves. If you're not an experienced sailor, guided boat tours are readily available.
Another wonderful day trip is to the idyllic island of Zlarin, known as the "Golden Island" due to its golden, sandy beaches. Zlarin is famous for its history of coral harvesting, and today this can still be seen in their jewellery-making tradition.
Whether you're wandering through the charming old town, basking on the pristine beaches, or exploring the nearby islands, Primošten offers an abundance of enticing experiences. This coastal gem is more than just a tourist destination; it's an authentic slice of Croatian life.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesThe popular Raduca beach is a must-visit destination if you are staying in the town of Primosten with the kids. Although it is pebbled, it’s nothing a pair of beach shoes won’t fix (these are readily and cheaply available in many shops along the promenade if needed). Children love the shallow waters of Raduca beach, as well the attractions that are often there during the summer months, such as trampolines and bouncy castles.
It’s possible to hire sun loungers and parasols at Raduca for just a few pounds a day, so it’s easy to see why families set up here in the mornings and stay all day. Ice-creams, cold beverages and snacks are all just a short walk away, and if you’re done at the beach for the day there are plenty of restaurants offering everything from seafood to pizza to be found along the promenade that backs the beach.
If you decide to head out of Primosten for the day and venture into nearby Sibenik, be sure to treat the kids to a visit at Aquarium-Terrarium; a small zoo and aquarium located down a narrow street in the old town area. You could easily miss it if you weren’t looking for it, but do find it if you can! Here you’ll find fish, turtles, crocodiles, snakes and reptiles, which is sure to delight the younger ones (older children or teenagers might be less than impressed), but it’s not costly, only takes about 30 minutes to get round, and can be a welcome escape from the summer heat.
Sibenik is home to two fortresses that are popular tourist destinations for families - St. Mihovil and Barone - and both are worth visiting. However, for those with younger children, Barone Fortress (the less-popular of the two), is probably your best bet as it’s definitely more geared-up for kids! There’s a ship-like playground and augmented reality spots for them to enjoy, and a more child-friendly environment in general, with loads of space to safely run around and explore, while the adults can enjoy a drink and the beautiful view over Sibenik. There’s a souvenir shop that stocks kid-friendly gifts that they’ll love, such as fortress colouring books and toy shields and swords. There’s a cafe bar at Barone Fortress, so allow approximately an hour and a half of your day to see the fortress and partake in some refreshments at the end.
