Under a kilometre from the sea, the spacious Villa Caprice is situated in Tribunj, a small Croatian town near Vodice. Lovely sea views are just part of the attraction of this 4-bedroom villa, which sits in pretty gardens with an impressive pool terrace.

Modern and light, Villa Caprice is the ideal holiday home for up to eight guests. There's a great flow between the interior and outdoor areas, with a magnificent pool and a covered dining terrace. There are sun loungers, a large parasol and a lawn area perfect for kids to play on.

Patio doors give you direct access to all the downstairs rooms. You have a lovely lounge area with seating and flatscreen TV, and an adjacent dining area with seating for eight. A stylish kitchen provides all you could need and continues the contemporary feel, but restaurants and cafés are within a short walk if you don't feel like cooking.

Over the four bedrooms, you have four double beds, and two additional single beds are available too. Some of the upstairs rooms have access to a terrace with seating. Three elegant bathrooms can also be found at Villa Caprice, along with an additional WC. Finally, you can look forward to soaking your cares away in the rooftop hot tub, which enjoys wonderful views over the town and towards the sea.

One of North Dalmatia's most popular resorts, Vodice is a convenient base for boat trips to nearby islands like Zlarin and Prvic, or for visits to the stunning Krka National Park. A pretty harbour and pebble beaches are part of its charm, and there are plenty of restaurants, churches and an aquarium to visit. The larger city Šibenik is only a 20-minute bus ride away, and other popular cities such as Split and Zadar are within reach too – both are around one hour's drive from Vodice.

On Croatia’s Adriatic Coast, Vodice is around 15 minutes from the larger city of Šibenik. With its lovely harbour, beaches, taverns and good nightlife, it’s a lovely place to spend some time. During the summer, Vodice Fest and the Vodice Jazz Festival bring music and fun to the area, and if you want to party into the night, the open-air club Hacienda is the place to be – it’s one of the most famous clubs in Croatia.

If the town’s heritage is of more interest, you can discover churches such as the Church of the St Cross, a Baroque building dating back to 1746. The bell tower took some 20 years to build. Other local monuments like the Coric Tower, built from the prized stone of the island of Brač, are even older.

Island hopping is a popular activity in Vodice, as the town is well-positioned for visiting tranquil islands such as Prvic and Zlarin. Two national parks are also easy to reach from Vodice – the Kornati islands and the Krka National Park, famous for its magnificent waterfalls. You can take a boat trip through Krka National Park to enjoy some of its amazing scenery.

Dalmatia’s main city, the impressive Šibenik, lies just 14km from Vodice. Its stunning medieval centre is a must-see, with the World Heritage Site, St James’ Cathedral, at its heart. It is said to be the world’s largest cathedral constructed entirely of stone and took more than 100 years to build. Look out for the frieze of 71 heads lining the rear of the building – the faces were based on local residents.

St Michael’s Fortress is another notable sight that offers superb views over the Krk River and nearby islands. During summer, big-name festivals like Terraneo and the International Children’s Festival bring visitors of all ages to Šibenik.

Head further east, and you can visit the magnificent city of Split. There's plenty to choose from with Diocletian’s Palace, Saint Domnius’ Cathedral, and many more notable sights. Cultural gems include The Split Gallery of Fine Arts, the Archaeological Museum and the Mestrovic Gallery. Many public events also take place on the iconic Republic Square. If you want to feel at one with nature, you won’t have to go too far – Marjan Forest Park – a large area of pine woods and botanical gardens, is just west of the city.

Region

Cradled along the shimmering shores of the Adriatic Sea, Šibenik is an ancient coastal city that sits equidistance from the larger and busier cities of Zadar and Split. By contrast to these larger destinations, Šibenik offers a glimpse into a more local way of life. With its well-preserved medieval core, magnificent fortresses, and the ethereal beauty of Krka National Park at its doorstep, Šibenik is a destination that captivates the hearts of travellers seeking an authentic Croatian experience.

Šibenik's Old Town is home to one of Croatia’s ten UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the iconic Cathedral of St. James. The cathedral is a true masterpiece of Renaissance architecture, a testament to human ingenuity and craftsmanship. The intricate frieze that adorns the cathedral's exterior tells stories from the Bible and local history, leaving visitors in awe of the skill and artistry of the craftsmen who dedicated their lives to this grand project. Stepping inside, the awe-inspiring interior of the cathedral continues to leave visitors breathless with its intricate stone vaulting and a serene atmosphere.

A visit to the Šibenik City Museum reveals the rich maritime history of the region, showcasing ancient ship models, navigational instruments, and artefacts from the city's seafaring past. Šibenik's maritime heritage is also celebrated during the annual International Children's Festival, a tradition that dates back to 1958 and unites children from all over the world in a cultural exchange of art and music. Children from around the world participate in various artistic and cultural activities, making it a unique experience for young travellers.

Šibenik’s calendar comes alive with festivals and cultural events throughout the year. The Šibenik Evening of Dalmatian Chanson is a tribute to the region's musical heritage, where local and international artists perform the soulful songs of Dalmatia. For those seeking a more contemporary cultural experience, the Terraneo Music Festival brings renowned musicians and electronic music enthusiasts to the city. This eclectic blend of events ensures there's always something happening in Šibenik, from lively street performances to classical concerts in historic settings.

Just a short drive from the city, Krka National Park is a haven of cascading waterfalls, lush greenery, and crystalline rivers. The park's centrepiece is the Skradinski Buk waterfall, a stunning series of cascades that plummet into a serene pool. The park is not only a feast for the eyes but also a sanctuary for diverse wildlife, including various bird species and aquatic life. Hiking trails and wooden walkways wind through the park, allowing visitors to explore its beauty at their own pace.

A boat trip along the Krka River offers a unique perspective on the park's natural wonders and historical sites, including the Visovac Monastery, a peaceful island sanctuary that has stood for centuries.

Šibenik is a gateway to the stunning Dalmatian islands that dot the Adriatic Sea. Day trips or longer island-hopping adventures are easily arranged from the city's port. Islands like Kornati, Prvić, and Zlarin offer pristine beaches, clear waters, and the opportunity to experience the tranquility of island life. Kornati National Park, also known as the "nautical paradise," is a sailor's dream, with its rugged islands and countless coves. Charter a boat or join an organised tour to explore this unique archipelago, which is a protected natural wonder and a playground for divers and snorkelers.

Whether you're wandering the picturesque cobbled streets of the Old Town, basking in the natural splendour of Krka National Park, or savouring traditional dishes in local eateries, Šibenik promises an unforgettable journey through history and the magic of the Mediterranean.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

There’s plenty to see and do around Dalmatia, and kids are sure to love the spectacular Krka National Park. With such spectacular scenery – the seven waterfalls included – this destination is a family favourite. Hiking, biking and swimming are all possible in this vast National Park.

Alternatively, try Šibenik’s Solaris Aqua Park. The first of its kind in Croatia, this big water park has all the attractions you would expect, and is a great place for a day out. Šibenik’s aquarium, Terrarium, continues the watery theme with all sorts of sea creatures and colourful, tropical fish to see.

Šibenik’s International Children’s Festival happens every summer, and has been encouraging creativity through art, music and drama since 1958. Expect to find craft workshops, children’s theatre, puppet shows, parades and more during this 3-week festival – it starts in mid-June.

Shopping malls like City Life and Dalmare make Šibenik a great shopping destination, and you’ll find easy entertainment at the multiplex cinema, Cinestar. There’s often live music at venues around Šibenik and Vodice. The latter enjoys jazz and blues on the streets each July, courtesy of the Off Festival, while the former hosts international acts at the annual Terraneo music festival in August.

The village of Dubrava, a short drive from Šibenik, is home to the Sokolarski Centar. At this forest-based centre, visitors can learn the art of falconry or take a course on ornithology. If you fancy heading to Zadar, the kids will be fascinated by the Sea Organ, which uses the waves to create sounds and the dancing lights of the solar-powered Sun Salutation.

The country’s second city, Split, is just over an hour’s drive from Vodice. Full of family attractions, the city is packed with things that children will enjoy. Be sure to check out Marjan Hill Park, the Magical City playroom, Bacvice Beach and the Froggyland museum.

You can also find a ‘semi-submarine’ in Split, which gives a wonderful view into the ocean while remaining above sea level, while the city’s aquarium is the biggest for miles and offers a fine introduction to the marine life of the Adriatic. Other boat trips will take you to nearby islands or to visit the stunning Blue Cave.
