The medieval Klis Fortress is perched upon a dramatic ridge overlooking the village below, offering spectacular views of Split, the mountains and the sparkling Adriatic Sea. Guided tours of Klis Fortress are available, or you can simply wander the ruins at your leisure, soaking up the sunshine and the region’s fascinating history. Later, enjoy a delicious Dalmatian dinner at Antonićin Mlin, a traditional restaurant in an old watermill with scenic natural surroundings, roughly a half-hour drive from Klis.

During the summer months, bring plenty of water with you and visit earlier in the day if possible, as the fortress does not offer much shade from the sun. The ruins of the ancient city of Salona are also well worth a visit, before you stop off for a family lunch at a local restaurant in Klis.
For water babies, there are exciting boat tours to coastal gems, such as the tiny islet of Biševo or the town of Komiza on the island of Vis, where intrepid explorers can discover the shimmering waters of the Blue Cave.
