Just 9km from Split, in pretty Podstrana, the 4-bedroom Villa Roberta is a delightful Croatian retreat. Enjoying sea and island views from its quiet location on the Dalmatian Coast, this contemporary villa features a superb terrace and infinity pool.

With its glass walls and open terraces, you can enjoy spectacular views throughout this property. Outside, you have a heated infinity pool of 8m x 4.5m which offers a hydromassage feature, with an impressive sun deck and dining area with barbecue found alongside.

You can step straight inside the main living area, air-conditioned and furnished with comfortable sofa seating and widescreen TV. Lots of natural light floods into this open-plan space, which also incorporates another dining area with seating for eight, and a slick kitchen with an island – equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine and lots more, it blends in with the décor perfectly.

On the first floor, you will find three of the bedrooms, all with an en suite and king-size bed. Two have a furnished terrace of their own, while all three enjoy fine views out to sea and over the pool or village.

The master bedroom is one floor up. Again, it’s fully air-conditioned and features a king-size bed. The en suite bathroom comes with a free-standing bathtub, shower and double sinks, while the views over the Adriatic and out to Split make this room a real treat.

Podstrana is a lovely coastal location, offering both beaches and watersports and mountain adventures – hiking, horse-riding and cycling are all possible, along with sailing, windsurfing and water-skiing.

You’ll be just 1.5km from the beach at Villa Roberta. Beach bars and restaurants provide a great introduction to Dalmatian cuisine. Excursions to the area’s other significant sights are easy too. As well as Split, home of the magnificent Diocletian’s Palace, you’ll be just 15km from popular Omiš, with the beaches of Jesenice and Dugi Rat well worth a stop along the way.

A beautiful small town on the outskirts of Split, Podstrana will impress you with its crystal-clear sea and rugged mountain backdrop. There are more than 6km of beaches to enjoy, along with good restaurants and relaxing bars.

Just 8km away in the city of Split, you’ll find historic gems such as the Cathedral of St Domnius, complete with 57m bell tower, within the boundaries of the vast Diocletian’s Palace – without doubt the big draw for visitors. Also within the palace walls are Peristyle Square, a meeting place and cultural venue which often hosts events, and Jupiter Temple.

There is plenty more to see, so look out for cultural highlights like the Meštrović Gallery – dedicated Croatia’s great 20th-century sculptor – as well as the Croatian National Theatre and Split Gallery of Fine Arts.

To the west of the centre, you can explore the green spaces of Marjan Forest Park and appreciate the stunning Adriatic views that await you at the top of the hill. There’s lots that children will love with a great aquarium and the Froggyland museum amongst the best family attractions. You can also go offshore and visit the spectacular Blue Cave for an unforgettable swim, or take a cruise to the upscale islands of Brač and Šolta.

About 15km down the coast from Podstrana, Omiš is now the place to be for watersports, but it was once pirates who ruled the waves. You’ll find many opportunities to find out more about this grisly history, and family-friendly pirate cruises in the summer. On the River Cetina, you can go rafting or canoeing, or you could opt to see it from above on a thrilling zip-line ride.

Backed by the Dinara mountains, Omiš is perfect for a hike, but it’s easy to chill out too, with restaurants, café terraces and regular spectator events. The summer’s Festival of Dalmatian Klapas is an annual highlight, which brings this traditional form of Croatian music to the streets. Omiš is also known for its fortresses, which require quite a climb to reach, but offer breath-taking views on arrival – a visit to the 13th-century Mirabella fortress or 15th-century Starigrad is a good way to get some exercise.

The palm-lined promenade offers a lively atmosphere day and night, with street performers and events throughout the year.

Just a short walk from the from the centre of Split is Marjan Hill, a pristine nature park that offers a peaceful retreat from the bustling city streets. The park features lush greenery, jogging trails, and stunning viewpoints overlooking the city and the sea. It's an ideal place for hiking, picnicking, or simply enjoying the natural beauty of the Mediterranean.

The Split region offers a variety of beautiful beaches. Bacvice and Ovcice are two popular choices conveniently located near the city centre. Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

The kids will have plenty to look forward to when you visit Croatia. Podstrana offers endless beautiful beaches and refreshing mountain walks, cruises along the coast and island adventures. Even better, there are more great cities and towns within easy reach, as well as big natural playgrounds like the Krka National Park.

Just down the coast, Omiš’ Cetina Canyon offers up all sorts of water-based activities, with rafting, canoeing, scuba-diving and more making it an exciting place to go as a family. Zip-lines cross the canyon, so you can all experience the amazing view from 150m up. This particular activity is suitable for children who are aged 7 or above.

Omiš also offers lots of great beaches that are ideal for families. At 700m long, the sandy Velika Plaza offers lots of facilities, and there are activities like volleyball, snorkelling and jet-skiing to try. For a little peace and quiet, seek out the pretty pebble beach, Brzet, about 15 minutes’ walk from Omiš. When it’s dinner time, the town has plenty of choice, including family favourite Kremenko, a Flintstones-themed restaurant up in the hills.

As the largest city for miles, Split offers a lot to see and do. Highlights include Diocletian’s Palace and the region’s biggest aquarium, while Froggyland, featuring stuffed frogs in human poses, scores big on eccentricity. Marjan Hill is the green lung of the city and perfect for a walk amongst nature.

There are lots of sea-bound adventures in Split too. A ‘semi-submarine’ offers a wonderful view into the ocean without ever being fully submerged, while boat trips to wonderful islands like Brač or Šolta, or to the amazing Blue Cave, are always popular.

With its famous seven waterfalls, Krka National Park is one of the most beautiful areas in Croatia. It’s around an hour’s drive from Podstrana but will make a lovely day out. Once there you can follow walking trails, take a riverboat trip and admire the wildlife as well as the powerful waterfalls. Activities like cycling and swimming are sometimes possible too.

Two more great cities are well worth a visit – Šibenik and Trogir. Šibenik is not far from Krka National Park so you may wish to combine them. You’ll find a water park, aquarium and pretty Mediterranean monastery gardens there, along with historic sights and all the usual city amenities. It also hosts the International Children’s Festival each summer. Trogir is much closer to Podstrana, about 30 minutes away, and with its cool waterfront and beautiful Old Town makes a fine alternative to Split if you want to avoid the crowds.

  • Amazing place!!

    on 21/08/2021

The house is perfect for groups, all of the interiors have been finished to a very high standard, it felt more like a luxury hotel than a Villa! All of the rooms were massive and all had en suites which was great for a large group of people. The views are stunning and the sunsets from the top floor balcony are incredible. Split is just a short taxi ride away or you can stroll 15mins downhill into Podstrana for restaurants and the beach. Pero the owner was fantastic, from check in to when we left nothing was too much trouble, he went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. We absolutely loved our holiday here and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to book!
