With modern design inside and enchanting views of the Adriatic outside, Villa Zlata enjoys a beautiful location in the hills of Jesenice. This 4-bedroom villa is a mere 10km from the town of Omiš and makes the most of its position with generous outdoor spaces, set around a magnificent heated infinity pool.

Sun loungers offer the chance to recline and enjoy the peace of the pool terrace, and a dining area, summer kitchen and barbecue are just a few steps away, alongside a comfy covered seating area – the perfect spot to adjourn to with after-dinner drinks.

The house itself is light and airy, with glass walls letting in natural light. Air-conditioning and white and neutral-toned décor add to the effect. On the ground floor, a dining area and living room with fireplace are complemented by a sleek kitchen with high-quality appliances. This open-plan area offers a lovely view of the ocean, out towards the island of Brač.

On the lower ground floor, you have a double or twin bedroom and bathroom, plus a playroom with a games console, projector and sofa-bed, meaning this room can accommodate two extra guests if needed.

On the first floor, there are three en-suite double bedrooms, including the master bedroom with its massive bathroom with shower, bath, double sink and bidet, and private balcony terrace looking out to sea. One of the other two bedrooms also has a balcony.

At Villa Zlata, you will be just 3km from the nearest beach and local shops in Jesenice. Located between Split and Omiš, its pebbly beaches are beautifully bright and picturesque.

The village is not too far from Duće, where you can join the 6km of golden sands that stretch from Dugi Rat to Omiš. Jesenice is a peaceful place with many bars and restaurants, and its wooden ships are a famous sight – these days used for pleasure cruises along the coast.

Sitting on the Dalmatian coast between Split and Omiš, level with the beautiful island of Brač just across the water, Jesenice incorporates three villages – Krilo, Orij and Suhi Potok. It’s still a pretty small place even then, but that doesn’t stop it being one of the most picturesque spots on the coast. The breathtaking sea view from the coastal road could easily distract you.

Jesenice has a smattering of places to eat and drink, but its main attraction is probably its wooden ships which used to work hard extracting sand from the River Cetina and River Neretva. These days, it’s all about pleasure cruises, and a trip on one of these ships, or ‘salbunjera’, makes a lovely way to discover the considerable delights of the region’s coast.

It all feels a world away from busy Split, but that city is only 17km from Jesenice. This is the region’s hub for culture, entertainment and landmark sights like the Diocletian Palace and the impressive Ivan Meštrović Gallery. The town’s old walls now contain countless fine restaurants, lively bars and interesting shops – and organised walking tours can guide you through the historical sights like Gothic palaces and medieval fortresses.

Less than 10km from Jesenice, Omiš is a popular destination in its own right. A combination of beautiful beaches, towering fortresses, cultural events and laid-back café lifestyle offers more than enough reason to visit, and water-sports lovers and other adventurous types will find activities to challenge and invigorate them by the dozen.

If you’re taking young children, the (actually quite scary but less-so now) pirate history of Omiš will be hard to ignore – they’re sure to love hopping aboard for a Pirate Night tour.

Region

The city of Split, with its magnificent historical sites, scenic coastal vistas, and a welcoming local atmosphere, is a must-visit destination for travellers in search of the perfect balance of culture, relaxation, and adventure. Nestled along the captivating Dalmatian Coast, it’s a vibrant mix of modern life and ancient history, making it a thriving hub for both locals and tourists.

The heart of Split is the historic Diocletian's Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that stands as one of the best-preserved Roman monuments in the world. Built for the Roman Emperor Diocletian in the 4th century, this massive complex now forms the nucleus of the city. Within the palace walls, you'll discover a labyrinth of narrow streets, charming squares, and historic buildings. The Peristyle, an open-air courtyard, is a central gathering place, and both the Cathedral of Saint Domnius and the Temple of Jupiter showcase remarkable examples of ancient architecture. Strolling through the ancient streets, you'll come across quaint shops, lively cafes, and local markets.

The Riva promenade is the city's vibrant waterfront hub. Lined with cafes, restaurants, and shops, it's the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely stroll, sip a coffee, or dine while overlooking the stunning Adriatic Sea. The palm-lined promenade offers a lively atmosphere day and night, with street performers and events throughout the year.

Just a short walk from the from the centre of Split is Marjan Hill, a pristine nature park that offers a peaceful retreat from the bustling city streets. The park features lush greenery, jogging trails, and stunning viewpoints overlooking the city and the sea. It's an ideal place for hiking, picnicking, or simply enjoying the natural beauty of the Mediterranean.

The Split region offers a variety of beautiful beaches. Bacvice and Ovcice are two popular choices conveniently located near the city centre. The sandy shores are perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and trying your hand at the local beach sport, picigin. Exploring further along the coast, you'll find numerous rocky coves and pebble beaches, each with their own unique charm.

For adventure seekers, Split offers a wide array of outdoor activities and water sports. From kayaking and paddle-boarding to sailing and scuba diving, there's something for everyone who wants to experience the Adriatic up close. Split is a great base for taking boat trips to the nearby islands, where you can explore underwater caves and secluded beaches.

Croatian cuisine is known for its fresh, local ingredients and Mediterranean influence. You’ll be able to savour delicious seafood, grilled meats, and traditional recipes. To experience authentic Croatian flavours, visit the local konoba (taverns) that serve traditional dishes like pasticada (a slow-cooked beef stew), and peka (baked meat and vegetables). Pair your meal with local wines and olive oils for a complete gastronomic experience.

Split is a city of remarkable beauty and historical significance. Whether you're exploring ancient streets, soaking up the sun on pristine beaches, or indulging in delectable local cuisine, Split promises an unforgettable experience. Its blend of stunning natural landscapes, ancient history, and a welcoming Mediterranean lifestyle makes it a destination that offers something for every traveller.
