Luxury Villas in Trogir: Our Top Picks

Why visit Trogir

Boasting the best-preserved medieval town in central Europe, Trogir is a history lover's playground. The Old Town is a must-visit - it stands on a pretty islet, separated from the mainland by a man-made canal, and linked by a bridge to Čiovo island. From architectural stunners like the Cathedral of St Lawrence to historic wonders like the old city wall, wandering this pretty town will take you back in time to its ancient past. For something with a modern twist, visit the medieval Kamerlengo Castle & St Mark's Tower which has been restored to house a summer stage and open-air cinema!

Trogir is a picture-perfect destination for those looking for an idyllic holiday away from city life. Our Trogir villas to rent make the ultimate base for a family holiday, group getaway or romantic retreat. Walk straight into town, head to the beach or stay in and make a splash in your private pool - whatever you want, we've got it!

Things to do

With so many historic attractions to visit, a self-composed walking tour of Trogir is definitely recommended. A must-see is the Cathedral of St Lawrence, exhibiting a fascinating mix of Baroque, Gothic and Romanesque decorations. Head to the top of the bell tower for gorgeous views over the town and sea beyond.

Craving some vitamin sea? Boat tours are another great option - be sure to visit some nearby islands! We'd recommend getting a morning ferry from the Riva that goes to Drvenik Veli and Mali islands - for the clearest waters you'll ever see, head to Krknjaši Bay, on the east side of Drvenik Veli. You can even charter your own boat for a day if you're feeling confident. Or if sailing the waters isn't your kind of thing, the beaches are equally as splendid - think turquoise waters and pretty shingles.

For general chilling, the central square is the perfect place to sit back and watch the world go by - choose a cafe or restaurant for a bite to eat or get drinks in the evening.  And when you've had enough, head back to your Trogir villa and enjoy your own private oasis!

Best beaches

Like many of its Dalmatian neighbours, the beaches on Trogir have visitors flocking to the pretty shingles and warm waters. There are plenty of family-friendly options for paddling with little ones or, for those looking for something more lively, other stretches offer bars, nightlife and restaurants so you can make a day of your beach trip.

For thrill-seekers, Okrug Beach is known for water-sports and nightlife. The picturesque setting makes it a popular choice in the day time whilst the abundance of bars and restaurants keep it awake all night long.

For families, we'd recommend Pantan Beach due to its shady trees perfect for sheltering the little ones from the hot sun. The beach bar is ideal for a round of ice creams too!

Food and drink

When you think of Croatia, the cuisine may not automatically spring to mind but there's plent to try across Dalmatia! One sweet treat to try in Trogir is rafioli - a shortbread biscuit with an almond filling, traditionally served at special occassions. You'll find these biscuits all over the town - keep an eye out for different fillings, including chocolate, cream, lemon and vanilla.

A world-renowned dish that orginated from the Dalmatian Coast is black risotto, getting its striking black appearance from squid ink. This delicious dish will be served with fresh cuttlefish caught locally and olive oil produced from olive groves around the region. Yum!

Another savoury food to try is Soparnik, a savoury pie made with two thin layers of dough and filled with swiss chard, garlic and parsley. Some say it's the Croatian answer to pizza...

Top tips

  • Just relax: Although there's plenty to do, one of the best things to do on your Trogir villa holiday is relax. We don't get many opportunities to live the slow life and holidays are basically made for it. Lounge at your villa, sunbathe on the beach or wander the pretty cobbled streets of the old town and see where the day takes you.
  • Ask locals: There's no better way to discover a destination than asking those who know it best - the locals. You'll be able to find the lesser-known restaurants and beaches that aren't filled with tourists!
  • Island hop: There are so many beautiful islands in Croatia it would feel wrong to visit just one! Take a day tour around some of the nearby islands and soak up the Dalmatian beauty.

What Oliver loves

This sun-kissed town stays hot through September so you can chase the last of the summer sun and soak up the rays. Beach bars and restaurants will also still be open so you can make the most of the end of the season in style.
