Beautiful Trogir is located on a small island to the west of Split and offers stunning architecture and historic sights alongside cool bars and waterfront restaurants. Its location is convenient for visitors – Trogir’s proximity to Split makes it easy to combine the two, and boat excursions to the likes of Šolta and Brač are possible too.

Culturally, the Split Gallery of Fine Arts, the Archaeological Museum and the Mestrovic Gallery, showcasing the work of the country’s greatest sculptor, are among places of note. Plenty more has been added to this vibrant city in recent years, including the region’s largest aquarium. Marjan Hill is the city’s green lung, offering a good place to stop when you need a break from the crowds.

Northeast of Trogir, Krka National Park is the home of seven stunning waterfalls and a 15th-century Franciscan Monastery on Visovac Island. The impressive town of Šibenik is also around 45 minutes away and shouldn’t be overlooked – it too boasts a notable cathedral in the form of World Heritage Site, St James’, and is a great place for the kids in summer. Šibenik hosts the annual International Children’s Festival which brings all kinds of entertainment to its pretty streets.
