Owner Profile
How long have you owned the property?
Since 2009
What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
The nature and pristine surroundings, the pure air, and silence are what initially intrigued us about the property. The private lake nearby, which is incredible during both winter and summer, is so serene and calming. Upon finding this property, we felt that we wanted to create a place where guests could come and feel the rejuvenating energy of nature.
Are there any interesting stories in its history?
Natura 2000 network
The European Union’s Natura 2000 network aims to stop biodiversity loss through protecting wild flora and fauna in specific areas. In total, about 5 million hectares are in the network, and the land, swamps, swamps, and bogs, as well as Lake Silmäsjärvi near and around the Lodge are all part of this network.
We work in accordance with the Natura 2000 guidelines, to ensure that we are keeping the surrounding nature unharmed, in order to protect local habitats and species. Keeping the water clean, as well as the land and air unpolluted, are all important ways we can help further this mission.
Every three years we ‘plant’ small baby fish into the lake, since we want to continue to preserve the local fish populations.
Do you have a favourite room in the property?
The aurora rooms, definitely! They’re great for looking out into nature and watching the skies for northern lights.
For anyone coming to stay is there anything in the surrounding area they should...
Really do?
Definitely try ice swimming and sauna, snowshoeing, check out the skiing trails (or downhill skiing in Levi ski resort), explore the national park nearby (Pallas-Ylläs National Park), learn about Sàpmi culture (indigenous populations)
Really eat?
Local, traditional Lappish foods, such as reindeer and mash with lingonberries. Squeaky cheese. Roast hot dogs on the fire. Vegan/ veg options are much more available these days as well!
Really see?
If the weather permits, northern lights!
What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
Staying warm is key during the winter months, to be able to enjoy nature and various activities - remember layers, layers, layers (and avoid cotton, because when cotton gets wet, it wont keep you warm!) wool/merino wool, or thermals etc are good.
Northern lights are best seen during cold, clear nights from autumn until spring!
take a rejuvenating dip in an ice-hole, just remember to wear a hat, gloves, and some kind of sock!

Luxurious lodge in Lapland Forests
We loved this lodge. It was really luxurious and the Aurora Cabins were amazing. Another highlight was the fire hut - absolutely phenomenal to be able to cook like this every night. The sauna was amazing and the surrounding location was beautiful. The staff were also amazing and helpful, resolving any issues promptly and providing wonderful service. We highly recommend the snow shoeing trip in the surrounding forest with Matleena and the wild herb sauna. It was great to have the option to do fridge stock ups!

Magical time
Chalet Esteri is one of those places you want to come back to! The heart put into it by the hosts is visible at every step! Wonderful location - a quiet area where you can relax. Beautiful and well-kept rooms in Aurora, wonderful Kota, saunas - everything else you can dream about! The hosts made us a very nice surprise - they prepared a Christmas tree and decorations so that we could emphasize the Christmas atmosphere even more - and here we would like to thank Jarkko for taking care of us during our stay - full professionalism and kindness! We would also like to thank Chef Jori from arcticcatering.fi for recommending it (it was delicious). Thank you for a wonderful Christmas
