Just south of Biarritz, Maison des Marches is an attractive house with its own swimming pool a 10-minute walk from La Plage des 100 marches. You can also wander to a local restaurant, supermarket and bakery whilst the charming village of Bidart is 1.5km away with its traditional Basque houses and pretty café terraces.
This is an ideal base for guests looking to make the most of the wonderful outdoor activities across this area from coastal walking and cycling to surfing and golfing – there is even space in the owner’s garage to store your bikes, surf boards and golf clubs.
The interiors of Maison des Marches are bright and modern, benefitting from the house’s south-west exposure which bathes this home in light. There is a stylish lounge and open-plan kitchen-diner with a ceiling fan and doors sliding open to the garden. Cook al-fresco on the plancha as others make the most of the south-west terrace and swimming pool.
The main part of the house sleeps a maximum of 6 adults plus one child across four bedrooms upstairs. The master air-conditioned bedroom features a king-size double, an en suite bathroom and a balcony. There are two further doubles with queen-size beds (one with air-conditioning) as well as an air-conditioned child’s bedroom with a bunk-bed. A family bathroom completes the house.
A simpler studio annexe sleeps one extra guest with its own kitchenette and en suite bedroom. It is connected to the house yet has its own separate entrance. It could be ideal for an accompanying nanny or a relative looking for a little independence. The annexe studio is only included in July and August (outside this time it is occupied).
To the north you have the beaches, golf courses, shops and restaurants of Biarritz - Le Port des Pêcheurs is only 5km by car whilst the famous surfing beach, Plage de la Côte des Basques, is even closer. Play golf at various courses including the one near Plage d'Ilbarritz, 2km away, or just make the most of the sweeping Atlantic beaches, summer beachside restaurants and surfing opportunities.
The coastal walking trail from Bidart to Hendaye starts nearby and passes close to the popular surfing spots of Guéthary and the family-friendly bay at Saint-Jean-de-Luz. Meanwhile, explore the beautiful landscapes around the historic Basque villages of Ascain, Sare and Ainhoa or venture further south towards the Spanish border – the wonderful city of San Sebastián is less than an hour away!

- The 7-person price is for 6 guests + 1 child across four bedrooms/two bathrooms in the main house only. This rate is only available outside July/August and the annexe studio will be occupied by a student (who has now access to the garden/pool).
- The 8-person price is for 7 guests + 1 child and includes the annexe studio. This rate is available in July/August only.
- Air-conditioning is only featured in three bedrooms.

Location
About the surrounding area of Maison Des MarchesMaison des Marches is located in a residential area around a 10-minute drive south of Biarritz, within walking distance to La Plage des 100 marches. Arrive into Biarritz Airport (5.5km) or the nearest train stations are Gare de Guéthary and Gare de Biarritz, both 4km away by car.
There is a large supermarket and other useful amenities including a bakery within a 10-minute walk as well as a high-end Basque restaurant around 500m away. Head into the charming village of Bidart (1.5km) for a lovely choice of restaurants, café terraces and shops. Admire the pretty architecture of traditional Basque houses with flower-filled balconies before walking towards the cliffs above the coast for stunning Atlantic views. Le Sentier du Littoral walking path between Bidart and Hendaye (near the Spanish border) starts here.
Even closer, walk down the many steps to your nearest beach, La Plage des 100 marches, around 10 minutes away on foot. This spot is popular with surfers and can be less crowded compared to other beaches along this part of the coastline due to the many steps (it can also be reached from the north and south if the tide allows). If you fancy trying surfing there are several seasonal surfing schools all along this coastline from Biarritz to Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
This is a popular location for golf lovers with much-loved courses such as Golf D'ilbarritz (2km), Golf d'Arcangues (8km), NAS Golf Chiberta (12km) and Golf Chantaco (12km) all within a 20-minute drive.
When out and about exploring, there is so much to see and do. Guéthary (4.5km) has always been a much-loved spot for surfers with its restaurants, bars and beaches whilst Saint-Jean-de-Luz (10km) especially appeals to families thanks to its attractive bay. Visit some of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ as you head inland to Sare (23km) and Ainhoa (24km).
Spend time getting to know Biarritz (5km), famed for its fish restaurants, vibrant indoor market, museums, lighthouse and the iconic Grande Plage backed by some fine examples of Belle Époque architecture from a bygone era of glamour and glitz.

Best Suited For: All AgesAdventurous families will love being so close to the many steps leading down to La Plage des 100 marches whilst guests with youngsters may prefer nearby Plage d'Ilbarritz and Plage de Milady, both a short drive or bike ride away. There’s a playground near Plage de Milady as well as a couple of beachside restaurants in the summer months whilst the interactive museum, Cité de l'Océan, is only 2km away.
Discover surfing schools along this part of the coastline from Biarritz to Saint-Jean-de-Luz and beyond – the bay is slightly calmer around Saint-Jean-de-Luz so it could be a good place for beginners. In the summer months Saint-Jean-de-Luz comes alive with a carousel and summer activities such trampolines on the beach and play areas.
Experience the charm and natural beauty of the region by riding on the old wooden train that departs Sare to the summit of La Rhune. Further south, discover tree-top adventures and paintballing near Hendaye whilst Cocktail Aventure, further in the mountains, offers older children/teens the chance to try rafting, canyoning and other exciting activities (age restrictions apply).
