Château Belles Vignes offers guests a unique stay in a XVIIIth century castle in the heart of a real wine estate, surrounded by vineyards, 170 ha of rolling hills and woodland and only 15km from the centre of charming and exciting Bordeaux.

Completely renovated in 2016, the château has 530 m² of comfortable living space with six ensuite bedrooms, and stands nestled in a huge park with a swimming pool and a private pond.

The castle’s small museum, with rare pieces, testifies to its long history whilst its more recent fruits can be sampled during a private wine tasting reserved for all guests. What could be better than staying on the estate that produces the fabulous wine you will drink with the delicious local delicacies of this gastronomic region!

The château is perfectly placed near Bordeaux and Saint Emilion, so this beautiful region is at its doorstep. Discover the varied landscapes of Entre-Deux-Mers, its vineyards, bastides and small villages, which are full of charming chapels and churches, with several stopovers possible at Créon and Espiet in particular.

For sports enthusiasts, there are a number of activities nearby, including two 18-hole golf courses within 15km and a tennis court. The spectacular sandy beaches of the Atlantic Coast as well as the Dune du Pilat (the highest in Europe) and the gorgeous seaside town of Arcachon (with its casino) are about 60km away.

Château Belles Vignes offers all the perfect ingredients for a memorable holiday, wedding or special event in this special part of France.

Region

From world-famous vineyards to Arcachon Bay and the Atlantic coast, experience the beauty and vibrancy of Bordeaux and its superb surroundings in this captivating region of south-western France. What’s more, Bordeaux has its own international airport and high-speed trains from Paris.

The grand city of Bordeaux has seen quite a come-back over recent years as old buildings have been restored to their former glory. This has attracted visitors from across the world who can appreciate central Bordeaux itself as well as its world-famous wine châteaux and vineyards.

It’s hard to know where to start – perhaps at one of Bordeaux’s vibrant markets such as Marché des Capucins followed by a morning coffee or lunch of oysters and wine at one of the many cafes in the market. Then take a stroll along the Garonne River near Place de la Bourse with its impressive Miroir d’eau for hours of water fun for kids, teens and adults alike.

As you walk around admiring the city’s stunning architecture and historic sites, uncover characterful neighbourhoods, picturesque cafe terraces and delightful patisseries (try the local sweet speciality, canelé, linked to Bordeaux’s wine heritage). Iconic landmarks across the city include Le Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux opera house, the 18th century belltower Grosse Cloche, Basilique Saint-Michel and the incredible Cathédrale Saint-André de Bordeaux.

Bordeaux is also known as the wine capital of France and where better to learn all about the city’s rich wine heritage than by visiting la Cité du Vin, a contemporary museum with interactive exhibitions and wine-tasting workshops. Beyond la Cité du Vin, come across little wine-bars across the city where you can try a variety of wine from across the Bordeaux wine region’s many appellations.

Outside the city centre, experience the country’s oldest wine-growing area by arranging vineyard tours or visiting family-run wine châteaux across one of the 65 appellations across this vast region. From the vineyards of Pomerol and Fronsac to the prestigious wineries of Saint-Émilion and the Médoc peninsula, there is so much to excite the most seasoned of wine connoisseurs across this historic wine region of France.

If you prefer outdoor adventures, there are wonderful walks in and around Bordeaux and fantastic cycling routes including the path by the 'Canal des 2 Mers' between Bordeaux, Créon and Sauveterre-de-Guyenne. You are also so well located for venturing to the Atlantic coast for surfing, sand dunes and oysters, all in magnificent surroundings.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

A little further afield, spend the day at the Arbor-et-Sens adventure park, about 10km away, with tree-top courses for various abilities including children aged 4+ as well as rock-climbing (all levels) and jumping (for teens/adults). Le Lac aux Branches (22km) is another popular tree-top activity centre for the most adventurous of families.

Just south of Bordeaux, La Ferme Exotique is another possible day out with over 800 animals from across the world as well as other attractions including an interesting heritage museum.

Then of course there is the great city of Bordeaux, on the banks of the Garonne, with its magnificent buildings (look out for the summer splash fountains at the Miroir d’Eau) and brilliant museums (including Cap Sciences and the Natural History Museum). Tired legs can tour the city via the little road train that takes you past some of the city’s major sights.

Parc Bordelais hosts puppet shows in July and August whilst there are other green spaces and playgrounds dotted across the city. Alternatively, head to Lac Bordeaux for a day at the lakeside beach in the summer months where you will also find some watersports.

Owner Profile

How long have you owned the property?
Since February 2013.

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
It is a wine property, we already had one and were looking for a second wine property in the Bordeaux area. The estate, set in a landscape of hills and woods (and vines!) is a breath of fresh air only 20 min drive from Bordeaux. The tasting of the wine produced definitely convinced us!

Are there any interesting stories in its history?

Château Belles Vignes in its current form, with its two pointed towers and large size, was built in 1780. But the estate was founded much earlier in 780, when the Count of Seguin, Administrator of the Emperor Charlemagne settled this agricultural land. There is a very old noble past tied to this land, and the impressive number of buildings shows that the property was dedicated to agriculture, livestock and wine.

Have you ever had any famous guests staying?
Not yet!

For anyone coming to stay is there anything in the surrounding area they should...
Really do?

Tasting our wines! Visit wineries and taste wines from different appellations.

Really eat?
A BBQ with a branch of vines, foie gras, oysters from Bassin d’Arcachon… French delicacies: paté, saucissons, jambons and sweet delicacies: cannelés, macarons de Bordeaux, … and so many more!

Really see?
Bordeaux and Saint Emilion Medieval Village, just 20 min drive from the Château. You will enjoy the medieval architecture as well as local products and wines from this prestigious appellation.

What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
On arrival, you will enjoy a welcoming bottle of wine from our property, and will enjoy special rates on the wines from our properties. If you like wine and will visit Bordeaux, the Cité du Vin is a must-see! There is a bicycle path very close to the chateau so that you can discover the area by bike (we have some).
If you visit Bordeaux, public transport is a good option: the best is to park the car and take the tram, bus or even boat! You can also rent bikes from the city.
Our Rental is a self-catering rental, but in case you don’t want to cook we can call a chef!

  • Excellent castle

    on 02/01/2024

Our family spent a great Christmas in this beautiful castle. Very comfortable and spacious for a large family. Located in a relaxing and beautiful environment. I sincerely recommend it.

  • Perfect venue for a small wedding, with accommodation

    on 17/07/2023

The chateau was everything we hoped for and more! it is the absolute perfect location, not too far from the airport relative to many of the wedding chateau options, and it was the perfect venue for our 40 person wedding. The accommodation was great, the grounds and pool were perfect for the big day and the day after pool party, and the backdrop couldn't have been better for our intimate wedding. I will remember with such fondness and hope to return to visit one day

  • Preciosa!

    on 12/01/2023

La casa fue preciosa y lo pasamos fenomenal.

  • Amazing!

    on 01/01/2020

Very impressed with the property, I would stay again. Reason for giving four stars is the bikes, which the description said were available, were broken so we were unable to go on some planned bike rides.

  • Decadent

    on 31/10/2017

Beautiful Location and building. Perfect for a decadent weekend.

  • Enchanting Chateau

    on 13/09/2017

The Chateau was incrediblybeautiful and seems to have been completely renovated recently.

  • Great family location

    on 23/08/2017

We had a wonderful time. The accommodation worked perfect for our party of three generations. Eric provided a brilliant welcome - friendly and informative. His presence throughout the week was unobtrusive, but very helpful when necessary.. The amenities were great and the newly-decorated bedrooms were gorgeous.

The quality of the concierge service provided by Oliver's Travels was an added bonus that means we will book with them again!

  • Reveillon 2017

    on 04/01/2017

    Séjour et service parfaits!!

  • Loved it!

    on 14/10/2016

So happy to have spent a week at Chateau Belles Vignes! The house and the grounds were better and more beautiful than the photographs could show. The harvest had started which was fun,we were also able to walk the grounds and taste the grapes still on the vine - that was such a treat. We enjoyed the sunsets over the vineyard each evening! The location was perfect as it was about 1 hour from St Emilion and 1 hour from Arachon. Six bedrooms all with private shower, each having a different view and each being so comfortable, roomy and lovely!

  • An enchanting stay on the vineyard

    on 22/09/2016

There's nothing like staying at a chateau on a working winery and vineyard in Bordeaux! We had 6 couples and each of them enjoyed comfortable accommodations. Each bedroom had an attached bath/shower. The grounds were beautiful and the location was perfect- close enough to the city of Bordeaux and centrally located between St Emilion and the Medoc regions. We took the free tour of the winery and we really enjoyed their Carpe Diem wine which was fully stocked (for a charge) in the wine cabinet. We hope to return once again next year!

  • A truly wonderful place

    on 13/10/2015

We have just spent 5 nights at Château Belles Vignes. Travelling as a party of 4 middle-aged Australian couples we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves in this beautiful place. The chateau includes 7 spacious bedrooms, beautifully furnished salons, a conservatory, billiards room, formal dining room, a pool and barbecue area and a lovely large kitchen. It truly is a beautiful place with stunning surrounds and proximity to Bordeaux and St Emilion. We found the rental fee generous in reality and the whole experience uplifted us all.
