The Guardian newspaper called this Chateau “One of the Top 5 houses to rent in France”. The Times said “its interior is as hip as its exterior is fairy-tale”. Grazia Magazine called it “Kick your heels off comfy”, while Bella Magazine simply said it had “Lashings of ooh la la”.
Even though it counts Hollywood Royalty on its guest list, it remains surprisingly cost-effective. An oasis of urban cool and relaxed ambiance against a background of traditional, ornate beauty, the Chateau has space and facilities to keep any guest happy.
Within the Chateau is a bar, private cinema, 14.5m heated swimming pool, billiard room, music area, piano salon, voluminous dining hall and restaurant standard kitchen. Accommodation for up to 24 guests across nine huge bedrooms. Self-cater or let the Chateau staff mollycoddle you – you decide.
The bedrooms at Château de la Croix have each been individually designed with king or queen size beds, crystal chandeliers and stylish soft furnishings. Each room is equipped with Nespresso coffee machines, hairdryers, plush towels for both the room and pool and luxurious bathing products by Penhaligon's.
The Chateau is great for families too. There is enough room to keep kids out from under parents feet and many activities to keep them amused – jamming in the music room, playing around the pool, outside games in the grounds, a football pitch, ping-pong and games.
This is a destination for all reasons, and whether it’s a group holiday with the kids, a special celebration, family reunion or even a girl’s weekend, it’s a place you’ll always remember.

Owner Profile
How long have you owned the property?
We have owned the property for 13 years, and after two years of renovation, have hired it out as a holiday home for 11 years.
What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
The Chateau is everything you'd expect of a chateau – enclosed grounds, turrets, a tower, all built of stone – but it is also amazingly light due to its huge windows and many French doors. It sits in five acres of its own private grounds, but is on the edge of a small village so it isn't isolated and there is the opportunity to interact with normal everyday French village life.
Are there any interesting stories in its history?
There has been a Chateau on this site since the 14th century. And when we get some free time, I have promised myself I will research its history.
Have you ever had any famous guests staying?
Quite a few, but we tend not to over-promote this. Guests have included, among others, Brad and Angelina for a two week family holiday away from the paparazzi. Garth Jennings, film director. Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano, film directors/writers. Cédric Klapisch, Film Director/Writer.
For anyone coming to stay is there anything in the surrounding area they should...
Really do?
Drink local country wine or cognac.
Really eat?
Local Foie Gras
Really see?
See the sunflowers
The region is stuffed with pretty, unspoiled village and towns, nestled in rolling countryside spread with vineyards. Cycling is fabulous here with miles of public rights of way and tracks through the countryside, plus a network of "voie verts" (where old railway lines are converted to cycle tracks) – there is one which runs right behind the Chateau, with flat, safe cycling in dappled sunshine.
What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
Go to Angouleme in the evening. The old quarter of the city (called the Plateau) is cobbled and car free, with a maze of old streets around the old covered market, where many, many cafes, bars and restaurants spill out onto the narrow lanes. On a summer evening it is buzzy and fun, and very friendly and welcoming. A relatively little known gem of a town.

I love this place
Absolutely magnificent château. Large reception room, numerous bedrooms, swimming pool, wi-fi available everywhere, bar, huge garden and even a piano! The decorations are breath-taking. I love this place.

I would recommend this place to anyone
I can’t put into words how great the team were. We stayed for three days for a wedding which was hosted on the grounds. Everything about the experience was on point. The staff were super attentive, the rooms were out of this world in the whole experience was 10 out of 10.
With it being such a large plot of land and being gated meant the kids could roam free without any risk.
I would recommend this place to anyone. -
A truly perfect stay!
Our stay with friends in this castle was incredible. The owners are a charming family, welcoming and attentive to our needs. The interior spaces were elegant, the gardens and swimming pool perfect for relaxing. The evenings were memorable and the food was delicious. A truly perfect stay!

I recommend without any hesitation!
The place is simply magnificent. A huge castle, very quiet, ideal for resting or, on the contrary, partying; you will not be disturbed! The exterior is also sumptuous, with a large swimming pool perfect for cooling off in summer! The owners are adorable, really very professional, always attentive and ready to make your stay unforgettable! I recommend without any hesitation!

Dreamy French chateau
My cousin got married at this beautiful property and we were fortunate enough to stay for several days. The place is just everything you imagine a dreamy French chateau to be, from the décor, food, the beautiful grounds, service. Total peace and relaxation.
