Nestled in the farmland and rolling hills of the Lot-et-Garonne in the South-West of France you will discover Château de la Perse. The original house dates back to the 1400s though much of the original building was re-built in the 18th-century, creating the stunning example of Neoclassical design we see today.
This expansive home can sleep between 16-24 guests across up to twelve en suite bedrooms. There will be plenty of space for everyone in this U-shaped home, the east-wing in particular has a fantastic 62m2 grand salon where everyone can spend evenings together before retreating to their own bedrooms. The home also has a number of smaller living spaces for when you wish for a little privacy and you will even discover a fantastic air-conditioned games room on the first floor.
The château sits in 8 hectares of private grounds filled with ancient trees, lawns and native plants that blend seamlessly with the surrounding countryside. Whether you wish to sit in the sun and enjoy a good book or dine al-fresco you are sure to want to spend lots of time outdoors in the beautiful gardens. If you are feeling a little more active you can swim in the inviting pool or try your hand at boules and croquet!
Though the home is a rural idyll, you will not be isolated as there are two lovely villages close by. Moirax is under 6km away and is dominated by the 11th century Cluniac Priory which is an incredible protected monument. There are also a number shops and eateries in the village including Auberge Le Prieuré which is a Michelin-starred restaurant in a historic building.
Another nearby village to discover is Laplume which is just 5.5km away and has a few shops and hosts regular farmers markets. You can also enjoy great views from the village or join a number of hiking and cycling routes from here including a botanical walk.
If you would like a wider selection of shops and restaurants then you are perfectly placed for visiting the city of Agen which is a mere 15km away. Agen has had a long and interesting history as it has been settled 11 times since 200BC by different groups before being returned to French control. Lots of the city is easy to explore on foot, so you can wander through the cobbled back streets and spot half-timber framed houses before popping in to some of the local artisan shops. The Musée des Beaux-Arts which is a fine art museum and the enchanting Saint-Caprais cathedral are some of the must-see sights.

Location
About the surrounding area of Chateau De La PerseChateau de la Perse is the ideal base for exploring Lot-et-Garonne; a rural region of south-west France which is dotted with some lovely villages and towns to visit. With history, culture, hiking routes and incredible cuisine all on your doorstep, there is something for everyone in your party in this diverse area.
If you would like to spend some time out in nature making memories with family or friends then you are well-placed at this chateau. Near to the chateau you can join the 15km long Brimont- Cap du Bosc trail which you can traverse on foot or by bike to take in some staggering scenery. Within a few kms of the house there are a number of equestrian centres if you would like to explore on horse-back. Choose from lessons for beginners or guided treks for those with experience, you could even pack a gourmet picnic hamper for a special day out.
Another way to make the most of the great outdoors is to visit a local vineyard where you can learn about wine production, take a tour and of course bring back some bottles for dinner! You will find some great vineyards in Buzet-sur-Baïse which is a 35km drive away.
When you need to pick up some groceries or pop out for a coffee then the villages Laplume and Moirax are each under 6km away and have a selection of amenities. You will even find a Michelin-starred restaurant in Moirax which would be the perfect place to book for a celebratory meal.
Agen is the place to go for shopping or sightseeing. Just 15km from the chateau, this bustling historic city has plenty to see and do, you could visit a number of times and still have more to discover. The more modern part of the city has lots of shops, restaurants and markets but head down Rue Beauville into the old town to seek out authentic medieval homes, maze-like cobbled alleys and stunning places of worship. The Saint-Caprais Cathedral is one of the more famous sights and contains some amazing preserved frescoes inside, but do not overlook some of the little churches such as the 13th-century Chapelle Notre Dame. Escape the heat of the day to take in some great works of art at the Musée des Beaux-Arts which is one of the finest galleries in the south of France. Finally, you could end your day with an early evening boat trip down the Garonne River and a meal in a traditional restaurant.
Another charming place to visit is La Romieu which is 19km away from the house. This village is counted amongst France’s most beautiful and is part of the Santiago de Compostela pilgrim trail. Visit to see the lovely botanical gardens, the Collegiate church which is a UNESCO world heritage site and the medieval fortress. The village is also famous for its association with cats! Legend has it that a peasant girl named Angeline and her pet cats once saved the village from a dreadful famine and today you can see stone statues which honour the cats in the village centre.

Just perfect
The chateau is just perfect for a large group. It is beautiful with large bedrooms. Well furnished and equipped, inside and out. The owners are really friendly and helpful. The view is fantastic. I highly recommend it.

Incredible holiday for our large group
We have just returned from a week-long stay at this stunning chateau. We were a group of 21 and there was plenty of room for all. The chateau itself is beautiful, both inside and out. Our group had 12 bedrooms and the configurations worked for our families - consisting of adults and mostly older teens. The kitchen and outdoor terrace were superbly equipped and we spent the balmy evenings on the terrace which had plenty of chairs for all of us to sit comfortably. The pool area with outdoor kitchen is simply stunning, and where we spent our days! The pool was beautifully clean and inviting and perfect for pool fun and games.
Christina and Sassan were such welcoming hosts - so helpful and friendly, and always on hand if we needed anything during our stay. We enjoyed 2 evenings of catering which were both absolutely delicious, and gave us a couple of nights off from large scale cooking! All of us thoroughly enjoyed our week at the chateau and cannot wait to return to make more wonderful memories. -
Wonderful family time!
We had a wonderful family holiday at Chateau De La Perse. There was plenty of room for everyone aged from one to ninety. The pool was lovely, the children had great fun in it. We did admire and enjoyed the new pool house.
The chateau was very well equipped. And we had amazing dinners on the terrace enjoying beautiful sunsets.
We spent some time in Moirax seeing the cathedral and a brilliant family lunch at the cafe.
The children also went riding. There were wonderful trails through the farmland for walking.
The whole week went so quickly. We enjoyed all that Chateau De La Perse had to offer. The hosts couldn't have been more charming and helpful. -
5 star stay!
I cannot recommend this château enough. It was able to easily house all of our guests, with ample space to spare. The kitchen had adequate supplies/dishes/glasses which was much appreciated. The owners prepared two lovely meals for us during our stay. It’s close to a village and a Michelin star restaurant, which is a must! We had everything we needed and we utilized the pool daily. Thank you both again, and we can’t wait to come back!

Absolutely stunning! 5 stars ⭐️
We had a large group of people from an infant to adults. There was plenty of space in the house, large rooms, and the kitchen had ample supplies/dishes/glasses. We had two dinners prepared for us at the house that were equally as impressive. The pool was a huge hit and utilized every day. The house overlooked a beautiful sunflower field that was in full bloom in the distance. We hope to return in the future!

Excellent Château

Marvellous Chateau
We were very lucky that Oliver's travels found this marvellous chateau for our family holiday of 8 adults and 6 children ranging from 3 to 11. Everyone was enchanted. The countryside was a glorious tapestry rich with wildlife including red squirrels for the sharp-eyed, deer for the early morning runners and hedgehogs on the terrace for after dinner cabaret. Although convenient for villages and market towns, it was set in idyllic seclusion. Our charming hosts could not have been more welcoming and supportive. They introduced us to their dream chateau with the warmest of welcomes. All the rooms were large and airy and generously equipped and decorated to a high standard but with all the warmth and charm of a home including enormous beds, comfortable ‘en-suites’ and quality linens. The weather was very hot so the inviting surrounds were not properly explored but the generously proportioned pool was a wonderful 30o. The pool area was entirely fenced off and fitted with safety alarms to keep smalls away but under parental supervision it became a paradise for all. Chaises longue and parasols for the sleepy, inflatables for the playful, towels to wrap things up and endless joy for all. The best! The owners could not have been more supportive through the week responding creatively to appeals to arrange child cover and suitable restaurant reservations, quickly responding to requirements for the usual infant medical support and ensuring that we were up to date with road closures and the best bakeries on differing days of the week. It’s a first-class chateau, and it was a perfect holiday. Thank you both.

Absolutely stunning chateau, highly recommend!
We had a fantastic weeks holiday here in July, and would highly recommend it! The chateau is stunning and very well equipped for everyone's needs - the owners are always on the end of the phone if you want any help or restaurant advice etc too. We were a group of 4 families staying, and due to the bedroom layout of the chateau we all felt like we had our own space - and our children have never stayed in quite such large grand rooms before! The evening sun terrace outside the kitchen is the most idyllic spot too. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, thank you so much.
