Location
About the surrounding area of Maison Du LagonThe Bassin d’Arcachon, or Arcachon Bay, is a large Atlantic-fed bay west of Bordeaux with an inlet between the tip of the Cap Ferret promontory in the west and the famous resort town of Arcachon to the east. Various towns, fishing ports and holiday resorts dot the bay’s coastline, including Lanton, where you’ll find the Aiguilles Vertes golf club, and the holiday resort of Andernos-les-Bains where a long pier and promenade are best enjoyed at high tide when the bay sidles right up to the beach.
Maison Du Lagon is located in Gujan-Mestras on the south side of the bay and beside Arcachon. In Gujan-Mestras itself you’ll find supermarkets, restaurants (don’t miss out on the acclaimed oyster bars), shops, beaches, a golf course, a museum and various scenic walks along the bay and surrounds.
A short drive from the villa will bring you to Le Teich and its renowned ornithological reserve, a magical spot for birdwatchers to see a wide range of bird species in their natural environment. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars!
In neighbouring Arcachon begins the longest, sandiest stretch of coastline in Europe, running 200 kilometres southwards to Biarritz. It's worth noting that cars cannot be taken on the ferry from Cap Ferrat to Arcachon, but bikes can. Once you're there, check out the Dune de Pilat, Europe’s highest sand dune whose shifting summit provides panoramic views across to Cap Ferret.
