In the heart of a rural village, surrounded by wooded valleys and beautiful countryside, is the romantic 14th century tower, Tour St. Thérèse. Perfectly positioned next to a historic church in the sunny region of Charente, this is the perfect place to unwind and relax in a unique and exquisite setting.
It is said that the tower was added to the adjoining medieval house, Prieure St. Thérèse, as accommodation for nuns when the local baron gave the house to the church in the 14th century.
The devoted and talented owner has created a chic yet characterful ambience throughout the tower; it’s like a step back in time to a bygone era. You’ll love the eclectic French furnishings and English antiques mixed with French country crockery and linen, from embroidered bed sheets to delicate pretty china. The semi-circular kitchen is simple yet perfect for preparing your coffee using the vintage French percolator and warming up your croissants for breakfast on the terrace. Should you wish to have dinner cooked for you, your host is very happy to oblige with a couple of days’ notice.
With the large open log fire in the living area and a small yet glorious master bedroom, the tower has an undeniably romantic atmosphere. There is also a second bedroom if you wish to bring family, designed with budding knights and ladies in mind and with a low beamed ceiling. They might even get a visit from an owl who perches on the deep recessed windowsill at night. Both bedrooms are accessed via their own steep and rather narrow spiral staircase, adding to the charm and character of this amazing place.
Outside you can appreciate the serenity. This is a very quiet area with a slow pace of life. The pleasant sounds of the church bells, birdsong and local frogs all add to the atmosphere in this quiet backwater. Massage and yoga, enjoyed in the peaceful surroundings of your garden can be booked by the owner. Alternatively, on the many cloudless evenings, snuggle up by the fire-pit and contemplate the starry skies.
This unique home is perfectly positioned within the Deux-Sevres in Charente, known to be France’s second sunniest region. There is a good choice of restaurants in neighbouring villages, about ten to fifteen minutes by car, where visitors are greeted with a warm welcome. You’ll find a supermarket, cafés, and bars just 8 km away in Thenezay and the beautiful medieval town of St. Loup is just fifteen minutes by car.
This beautiful area, full of wooded valleys, streams, ponds and shallow, flowing rivers is a joy for walkers and cyclists. From great local food markets, vide greniers and country trail walks to riding, lake fishing and canoeing, there is a plethora of activities in the area. Historical Poitiers, an hour away, is a city full of centuries-old art and history. Visit the magical chateau and sample some fine sparkling wine in Saumur or head west to the Atlantic coast with its stunning beaches and interesting town of La Rochelle.
Groups of up to twenty-two guests can hire both beautifully renovated homes, Prieure St. Thérèse and Tour St. Thérèse. Together, they are ideal for a celebration, small wedding or special holiday. Although attached, they each have their own separate entrances and gardens. There is the added attraction for guests in Tour St. Thérèse, of the use of the pool in Prieure St. Thérèse's garden when both are booked together.
With such a peaceful and beautiful place to relax in, it will be hard to leave the magical surroundings of your dreamy tower and rose scented gardens.
What you should know…
- Tour St. Thérèse is not suitable for children under the age of 4
- The tower is attached to Prieure St. Thérèse. They can be booked independently or together, allowing groups of up to 21 guests to holiday next door to each other.
- You do have to be fairly agile to manage the two separate spiral staircases up to each of the bedrooms.
- The owner and her guests may on occasion require access to her own home via the tower garden, however this will be kept to a minimum and guests' privacy will be respected at all times.

A really lovely stay
We had a really lovely stay at Paula's place in Pressigny! Paula was lovely and very helpful with local recommendations on places to go and eat. She was always ready to answer any queries we had and helped us out with extra firewood and dishwasher tablets. Thanks very much Paula - would definitely recommend

5* holiday
Fantastic property in a beautiful setting. We were met by the very warm and hospitable owner, Paula, who ensured everything was perfect for us. The style of the tour is chic yet it retains original charm. Lovely secure private garden and we made good use of the gorgeous fire pit. The first holiday where I have not missed my own bed thanks to the very comfortable superking in the master bedroom which was dressed in fabulous linen. The perfect place to relax under sun by day and glorious stars by night. Could not recommend highly enough.

Perfect Stay at Tour St Therese!
Lovely week's holiday at the beautiful Tour St Therese. Paula is the perfect hostess; nothing is too much trouble for her. She makes you feel so welcome; she even picked us up from the airport! The rooms at Tour St Therese are beautifully decorated and reflective of the 14th century building. Whilst you feel you have "gone back in time", Tour St Therese offers modern conveniences and comforts in a homely environment. The beds are very comfortable with exquisite bed linen and there is plenty of wardrobe/storage space. Paula is a fantastic chef so don't just stick with breakfast, take the dinner option if it is offered. Although this is extra you will not be disappointed. Tour St Therese is set in a wonderful rural location; very tranquil and relaxing to sit by the pool in the garden or take a walk/cycle ride in the surrounding countryside. For children/teenagers there is a wonderful room full of toys/games and a massive TV with internet. The location is within easy reach of nearby chateaux and medieval towns. Be sure not to miss a visit to Joan of Arc's Chapel and Gustav Eiffel's viaduct.

Great Property and Very Nice Hostess!!
My husband and I came here for an October half term holiday getaway. We’re expecting our first baby soon, so it was lovely to get away from it all on our last holiday abroad before he or she arrives in February. After a short 40-minute drive which twisted and turned its way through the beautiful Western France countryside, we arrived at Tour St Therese which was more stunning than I could ever have imagined. The house itself is set within beautiful walled gardens with an outdoor pool which will be perfect for relaxing in when the weather heats up. Once inside the house though, wow! You can’t help but look up and around you at all the wonderful architecture and craftsmanship of the building, with the spiral staircase and exposed timber beams, it really is like taking a step back in time. Our hostess, Paula, has added to the decor of the interior by decorating and furnishing each room exceptionally tastefully, keeping the charm of this lovely place in mind. We were greeted by Paula with a big friendly smile which never faded during our entire stay (4 nights), despite the fact she was busy attending to other guests who were also staying while we were there. The breakfasts she gave us were delicious, ranging from fresh bread and pastries from the local boulangerie to a full English fry up! We happily ate so much we didn’t really need any lunch! We were also offered dinner, which we were glad we didn’t turn down as, my, what a feast she laid on for us each evening! If Paula ever offers you dinner, don’t say no! She really is a brilliant cook! There is plenty to do in the area and lots of beautiful picturesque towns and villages to explore. We even managed to fit in a lovely 2-hour loop walk straight from outside Tour St Therese, following some walking route signs we came across! This is an idyllic place to stay if you want “an escape to the country” when you can leave all your worries behind you, soak in the peaceful serenity of the area and be spoilt rotten by the most wonderful host, Paula. We are already planning our return trip!

Incroyable, Merci!!

Don't miss out! Reserve now and get a full refund if you change your mind within 48hrs.
