For an unforgettable family holiday or fairytale wedding, book Château Du Chevalier, a magnificent 15th century castle in Brittany.

Beautifully located on a ridge overlooking a charming pastoral landscape, the estate comprises a stunning main château (sleeping up to 15 guests) and three annexe buildings dating back to the 19th century and fully restored in 2000 (which are able to sleep a further 20 guests).

The 54 acres of grounds with spectacular views include three ponds, a heated outdoor swimming pool and a charming chapel. Enjoy outdoor pursuits like fishing and hunting, schedule a wine tasting, play table football in the games room and explore the region’s historical sites.

The château's dining room features an original fireplace, and the drawing rooms, lounges, library and bedrooms have wooden panelling and paintings from 18th century.

The Big Maison (8 guests) sits just 100m from the château and has direct access to the pool and the kitchen garden. The Little Maison (4 guests) enjoys a superb view over the old castle park and the chapel and is just 25m from the pool. With two and  four welcoming bedrooms respectively, both houses are particularly recommended for couples or families.

All buildings have high ceilings, massive oak beams, original fireplaces, grand windows, inspiring country-style kitchens, extravagant drawing rooms and beautiful bathrooms creating a superb living environment.

Furthermore, they all have easy access to the swimming pool and their own outdoor seating areas where you can enjoy relaxing evenings with enchanting views overlooking the park and valley.

Drive to the village of Combourg (4km) to see an impressive castle and town centre. You’re also 30 km from Rennes’ cultural sites or Dinard’s beaches. History buffs will want to visit the D-day beaches (150km), and golfers can choose from 10 nearby courses, some just 15 minutes away.

Château Duval is 45 km from the Saint Malo port.

Not only is Brittany wonderful in the summer, it is also a great destination in spring when flowers are in full bloom. Likewise, autumn is the perfect season to gather around the fireplace and spend cosy afternoons in, not to mention December, which will take your breath away as the characteristic French morning mist settles like a lake in the valley, creating a spectacular scenery.

Please note that whilst the main château can be rented independently (15 guests rates), the annexe buildings are only available as an addition to the main castle (35 guests rate). When only the main château is booked, the annexes may be rented separately to other guests who share the estate and swimming pool with château guests. However, the 35-person rate guarantees exclusivity of the pool and grounds.

What you should know…

  • The main château can be rented independently (15-person rate),  whereas the annexe buildings are only available as an addition to the main castle (35-person rate).
  • When only the main château is booked (15-person rate), the annexes may be rented separately to other guests who share the estate and swimming pool with château guests. However, the 35-person rate guarantees exclusivity of the pool and grounds.
  • You’ll want to rent a car to make the most out of the region, and make sure to use GPS to find this chateau; Brittany’s roads can be unforgiving!
  • There are ponds in the grounds
  • The restored cottage is a beautiful stone-house from the early 1800s and is intended for those with a special feeling for rustic, country-side Brittany.

This home is a part of our Great Value and Heritage Collection!

This is a historic home, and as such:

  • It has probably been standing for over 100 years, which means it's full of historic value and charm but it may also have one or two quirks!
  • Some of the decor and furnishings may not be brand new, but that should not detract from your holiday experience in this unique setting that allows you to take a step back in time!

Reviews

  • We had our dream wedding

    on 23/11/2024

We had our wedding here in Chateau and stayed from 8th to 11th of October.
We were 25 people and 3 kids and the size of the chateau and all the bedrooms fit up to around 30 people optimally.
The chateau with its buildings is such a beautiful place and nicely renovated, very secluded so nobody will disturb your event. It includes a pretty chapel and also a fish pond with a little waterfall. If the weather is nice you can take a walk on the paths of the property.
The wider area offers a lot of nature, but also attractions like St. Malo and Mont St. Michel, which are easily reachable by a private bus tour or by cars.
The caterers proposed by the owner provided sensational food and service from the rehearsal buffet style dinner to the 4 course (or more if you choose so) wedding dinner, cocktail hour with a selection of cheeses and foie gras, up to breakfast and brunch and a crepes and galettes food truck. We also had a harp player during the wedding ceremony and cocktail hours, who was fantastic, and a DJ for the late night party.
The owners of the chateau, Marie and Roland, are such friendly and helpful people, so you will feel more than welcome. Marie organized all the caterers, bus tours and everything.
Not to forget to mention: their house brand champagne and calvados are excellent and very reasonably priced.
To summarize: we had our dream wedding in Chateau Du Chevalier.

  • We will be back!

    on 06/07/2024

A HUGE thank you to Marie and Roland for welcoming us into their home, and what a home!
30 people here for my 60th birthday celebration we had the place to ourselves. We dreamt, we talked, we laughed, we ate, we sang and we danced. All ages and all nationalities. Everyone felt they were in a fairy tail for four blissful days. And the weather was on our side, crisp sunny days every day!
Thank you Marie for your every attention to detail and your enormous style. It makes THE difference.
    We will be back!

  • An absolutely wonderful experience.

    on 19/08/2023

Thank you very much for the last one! I must thank you again for an absolutely wonderful experience. It remains an unreal dream for all of us. We will definitely be back and will keep in touch. Good luck with the rest of the season, and hope you got some of the long-awaited rain.

  • Our fairytale wedding

    on 11/10/2015

Thank you so much for all the help we have had in organizing our fairytale wedding 9/19 – 9/21-15. Everything from planning to execution has been fantastic, and Marie, I will miss your emails in my inbox.
The weather has also been completely unimaginable, we are convinced that it is thanks to your diligent sun-dancing!
Warm hugs and thank you for making our dream come true.

  • Best described as something from a movie......

    on 11/06/2012

We have just returned from our wedding which we held at Chateau Duval. I am struggling to find words to describe how beautiful it was, the Chateau and grounds are best described as something from a movie and the owners Marie & Roland could not do enough to ensure our day and entire stay was as smooth and memorable as possible. It was a special day and a memory that will stay with us forever.

  • Superb stay!

    on 16/07/2010

Thank you for the, all together, superb stay! Just as our guests, we were virtually enthralled with the castle and the Gate and Parkhouses' atmosphere and surroundings. We were in luck with the weather, and the service as well as the food etc. worked perfectly. And therefore, all the credit to all your assistants.

  • Words can't describe how delightfully beautiful it was

    on 16/07/2010

Just want to thank you for the incredible vacation we had at the castle down in France last week. Words can't describe how delightfully beautiful it was. Nice atmosphere and great people. All our guest thought it was their best vacation ever and, that said, most of them have traveled all over the world. The wedding worked perfectly, and everyone involved were just great. The chef's food was heavenly. Gwen sang wonderfully and his dj music was awesome. Everything was just perfect.

  • Memories will remain forever

    on 16/07/2010

The days we spent at your castle will remain in our memories for ever. We are the parents of the groom Brn Lindell, and I, as his mother, would like to show my gratitude to you. From the first moment we felt right at home at your castle and we experienced a wonderful week in France.

  • We had a fantastic week in France

    on 16/07/2010

We had a fantastic week in France. The wedding is a memory for life, and everything was incredibly elegant. Flower arrangements, the bride's bouquet, the horse and carriage tour, the sea-food buffet, the hair-dresser and DJ, EVERYTHING was fantastic!

  • Everything was wonderful

    on 16/07/2010

Now we have returned home from two FANTASTIC weeks in France. Everything was wonderful! Thanks a million for all the assistance with our wedding. It was everything that we expected and much, much more! All our guests felt that they were visiting adventure!

  • Our honeymoon

    on 16/07/2010

Christine and I have just returned from our honeymoon and having digested our experience at the chateau last week we would like to provide you with our feedback. To avoid all the flattering getting lost in translation I am writing this in English. The headline and conclusion is that we are extremely happy and we both feel that we had a fairytale wedding that far exceeded our wildest dreams and expectations. We also get very consistent feedback from all our guests that the atmosphere you have been able to create is really unique and gave everyone a pleasant break from real life. My mum even refers to it as a Garden of Eden experience and several guests have also said that they will definitely come back on a later occasion. As you can imagine you got a lot of ambassadors from this wedding and I will encourage you to refer to us if any potential customers ask for reference. We will definitely convince them! And if you want to quote any of this in your marketing material you are of course more than welcome to. A heartfelt thank you from both of us for a fantastic wedding arrangement! We will definitely be back! Best regards.
