You’ll feel right at home in the open, light-filled living space with comfortable sofas and a wood-burning fireplace. About the surrounding area of Le Rosseau CottageLe Rosseau Cottage is on the edge of a village, just 14km east of Beaune, the wine-capital of Burgundy. The famous vineyards of the Côte d'Or are a short drive away.
You can reach the centre of the village in about 1km where you will find a bar-restaurant and post office whilst a wide variety of shops and the nearest supermarket can be found in and around Beaune or Seurre, both a 15-minute drive away. Keen golfers will be pleased to know that Golf de Beaune Levernois is also close by.
Beaune, known as the wine-capital of Burgundy, is also famed for its gastronomy with some excellent places to eat in the town itself and surrounding villages. There is also a wonderful market on a Wednesday and Saturday morning which is not to be missed.
The 15th century Hospices de Beaune is one of France’s most significant historic buildings and worthy of a visit during your time in Beaune. Also spend time exploring the town’s enchanting lanes, charming shops and welcoming wine bars. Relax in the glorious Park Bouzaise and hire boats on the lovely lake in the summer.
The stunning vineyards and wine-villages of the Route des Grands Crus are also close by, perfect to explore by bike or car. Visit idyllic villages such as Pommard, Volnay, Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault, all within around 20-30km. Sample some of the best wines in Burgundy from Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits vineyards.
Chagny (30km) is another fantastic village with its three Michelin starred restaurant, Maison Lameloise and another great Farmer’s market on a Sunday morning. With the Canal du Centre passing through, it’s also a fantastic area for walking and cycling and there are some good fishing spots close by.
Other superb places to visit include the mustard houses of Dijon (45km), the historic town of Autun (63km) and Cluny (90km) with its world-famous abbey, a National Monument of France.
Just over an hour away, the Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan is home to yet more outstanding landscapes ideal for horse-riding, hiking, mountain biking and a range of watersports on the park’s lakes and rivers.

Nearby Beaune benefits from some wonderful green space close to the town. Parc de la Bouzaire, for example, is perfect for picnics with lovely local produce bought from Beaune’s shops or market. There’s also a small lake where you can hire boats in the summer and a little farm with animals.
A little further out of the town, Beaune Côté Plage is open in the height of the summer with its swimming pool and water slides.
Keen cyclists and walkers can enjoy the paths through the vineyards on the Route des Grands Crus or head to Chagny and the tow paths by the Canal du Centre. There are also horse-riding opportunities in this area.
For even more outdoor adventures, just over an hour away the Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan is fantastic for mountain biking, trekking, horse-riding and watersports on the region’s lakes and rivers.

Stunning holiday home near Beaune
We rented this property as a base to explore the vineyards of burgundy and it met or exceeded our expectations. Set in a large garden of about an acre the trees were autumnal and the pool empty alas but grapes were hanging ripe on the eaves. The property is older with great character and lots of bedrooms Although a bit chilly outside the electric heating was very efficient the plumbing worked well. We would have liked more than one stand up shower ( the 2 upstairs bathrooms had showers in the baths). The kitchen was well supplied for all styles of cooking although the gas flame on the cooker burns black ( I think there must be a fault maybe the wrong burner for LPG bottled gas?) but works fine. The lighting could be better and so many houses seem to have architects besotted with multiple small lights that all need turning on and off separately! The beds were very comfortable with duvets throughout. There were heaps of reading materials and very good WiFi. We hardly looked at the TV. However the best part of all is Jane the owner who went well beyond the norm to provide us with kind helpful and timely advice both before during and after our stay. Thank you so much Jane you are a star!!!
