Maison Du Marché is set in beautiful landscaped gardens with vineyards to the front of the house, just outside the small Burgundy town of Chagny and close to historic Beaune.

You can wander into Chagny (2km) is about 20 minutes. It’s a lovely town which is especially famous for its Sunday morning market which is known to be one of the best in the area. There are also numerous restaurants, shops and supermarkets in the town. Food-lovers will especially appreciate Maison Lameloise, a 100-year old restaurant which boasts three Michelin stars. In July and August local wine-makers come to the town to host wine-tastings on a Sunday morning.

The town also has its own train station, a 20-minute walk from Maison Du Marché, with departures to many places including Beaune and Dijon.

It’s a town with some interesting historical features with its 13th century church a listed monument. This region is popular with nature lovers as well - if you love walking or cycling, head to the town’s canal, part of the Canal du Centre, within a short stroll where you can follow picturesque towpaths and boats plus there is some fantastic fishing nearby.

Also within a short drive or train ride away is the famous capital of this wine-producing region, Beaune (20km), where you can visit the amazing Hospices de Beaune, one of France’s most stunning historical buildings. Don’t miss the great market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings and food-lovers should also try and get to one of the many Michelin starred establishments in the town and surrounding wine villages.

You are also perfectly positioned to travel Burgundy’s famous wine road, Route des Grands Crus, which includes villages such as Puligny-Montrachet (7km), Pommard (15km), Volnay (14km), Meursault (12km) as well as idyllic vineyards across the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune region where wine tastings can of course be arranged.

Furthermore, just 45-minutes by car is Autun (45km), founded by the Romans and full of historical sights, including a beautiful cathedral in the old town as well as a lovely central square which hosts a market on a Wednesday and Friday morning. There are hot-air balloon rides leaving from Autun, an amazing way to see some of the breath-taking vistas around you.

Dijon (65km), just under an hour away (or forty minutes by train), is a historical town with a delightful old quarter and of course famous mustard stores whilst Cluny (60km) to the south is a stunning medieval village most famous for its abbey, a National Monument of France, once the largest in the western world.

Within an hour you can also be entering the incredible Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan where you can discover woodlands, streams and waterfalls, gentle rolling hills and hidden villages. This region is perfect for hikers, horse-riders and cyclists and there’s a great variety of watersports on one of the lakes or rivers.

Reviews

  • Lovely pool

    on 11/10/2023

Very good accommodation within easy walking of town centre. Plenty of room in the house and a lovely pool. Good public rooms for evenings and bathrooms/bedrooms of great size.

  • Amazing

    on 27/07/2023

Absolutely amazing house! We would love to come again

  • Big space

    on 19/07/2023

We enjoyed our stay. The space is big for six people, including a huge lounge area. Good pool as well. Steve and Jill were very responsive and on hand to help with any queries.

  • Lovely property

    on 30/06/2023

The house itself is lovely. It’s private, quiet, clean, spacious and cool, which was great in the hot weather. The pool is also very clean and a good temperature. Steve and Jill were incredibly responsive and helpful. One of our children was sick while out there and they even found and drove over the right medicine for us which was much appreciated.

  • Very paceful

    on 09/06/2023

This is a lovely house in a beautiful area. It is very peaceful but only a short walk from local shops, restaurants and train station. Steve and Jill were very helpful and responded quickly to any questions. We had a great weeks holiday, the only problem was the time went too quickly!

  • Outstanding service

    on 14/12/2019

We are now back in Australia after our grand tour of Europe - and I wanted to take the opportunity to sincerely thank you for your outstanding service - and incredible kindness - during our stay. All of us agreed that our stay here was the highlight of our trip - even if it was marred a little by the French train strike - causing some anxiety. Your generosity was over and above the call of duty to both collect us and deliver us to a train to get us to Geneva will not be forgotten.

  • Beautiful place

    on 07/08/2019

We were there with our three children. It’s a perfect place if you want to stay in Burgundy and make day trips in the region. The check-in was perfectly organized. The house had everything we needed. The kids loved the pool. Chagny is also a nice town, especially the market on Sunday.

  • It was a great stay

    on 16/08/2018

Lots of space and facilities for a great stay.

  • Don’t hesitate, just book it!

    on 06/08/2018

Beautiful property - clearly a home and not just a holiday rental. The photos on the website don’t really do it justice. Lots of space and very comfortable. The managing agents were helpful and responsive when we had a small problem. Couldn’t really have asked for anything more for our week in Burgundy. Highly recommended and would not hesitate to stay again.

  • Gorgeous property surrounded by vineyards

    on 22/05/2018

An absolutely perfect holiday home! It is not only spacious, but also inviting and warm. Every room was beautifully furnished, including a fabulous gourmet kitchen. There are plenty of outdoor spaces to enjoy the views - we spent many an afternoon and evening on the patio savouring our wine and cheese. The pool and pool house are an extra plus. It is a short walk into the quaint town with restaurants and a wonderful Sunday market. We would DEFINITELY book a repeat visit. It is a great getaway place for couples or families alike. The five-star rating is well deserved!

  • Exceeded our expectations!

    on 01/11/2017

The House was amazing! Every room is large, and spacious enough to entertain. We love to cook and socialize and we travel with new friends and we were able to do so. The bathrooms were huge. All amenities well appointed including an extremely functional kitchen. It’s great to be able to walk around a house and feel like you’re part of a community as opposed to just hanging around in a hotel. We can’t wait to
    come back.
