Discover the delights of Burgundy in relaxed surroundings at this pretty home in a rural village in the wonderful Côte-d'Or region.
Formerly a bakery in the heart of the village, this holiday cottage has undergone a charming renovation into an inviting two-bedroom home with wonderful views of the village and valleys beyond. The bright living room features a log-burning stove for cosy evenings as well as a Smart TV with UK channels, Netflix and Prime. The sweet kitchen has its very own old-fashioned pantry and doors leading out to a pretty garden terrace.
Enjoy yet more uninterrupted village and countryside views from upstairs where two attractive bedrooms, one twin and a double, each have their own en suite shower room. Guests are made to feel comfortable with fresh white linen, fans, ample storage space and toiletries in the bathrooms. Youngsters are especially welcome with books, toys, a baby bath and stairgate to help ease parents’ minds when travelling with children.
It may no longer be the village’s boulangerie, but you can still arrange for fresh baguettes and pastries to be delivered to your door each morning for you to enjoy, perhaps in the south-facing garden with enchanting village views. The lovely owners can also arrange delicious meals to be prepared for you, including a bespoke menu for the youngest of guests, or you can cook up a feast on the gas barbecue using fresh products bought from charming markets or local producers. Try the goats cheese from the neighbouring village too!
Visit the idyllic village of Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, where the movie Chocolat was filmed, or drive to the town of Venarey-les-Laumes and hire bikes for long cycle rides along the Canal de Bourgogne. Fontenay Abbey, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is also not to be missed, nor is the captivating village of Semur-en-Auxois on the banks of the Armançon river.
Enjoy fine Burgundian cuisine in excellent local restaurants and visit a variety of vineyards whether you head north towards Chablis and Noyers or the world-famous wine-town of Beaune and its surrounding villages further south.
Staying at The Little Bakery is all about enjoying the simplicity of French country life whilst also having the opportunity to explore this wonderful region to your hearts content.

Location
About the surrounding area of The Little BakeryIn the heart of the Côte-d'Or, around an hour from Dijon, The Little Bakery enjoys an elevated position in an authentic rural village with lovely views over the rooftops towards the Burgundy countryside and beyond.
If you don’t wish to take advantage of the owner’s wonderful catering service, you can discover a choice of restaurants within a ten to fifteen minute drive whilst Venarey-les-Laumes (17km) is home to your nearest large supermarket and other useful amenities including a lovely weekly market. There is also a bakery in nearby Darcey (6km) or you can arrange to have pastries and baguettes delivered to your door each morning.
The beautiful village of Flavigny-sur-Ozerain (15km) will surely be one of the first places you will want to visit with its idyllic setting. It’s classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ and it is where the movie ‘Chocolat’ was filmed. Visit the two abbeys and purchase some of the traditional sweets, Les Anis de Flavigny, which have been produced in the village since the 16th century.
Historians of all ages will be keen to visit the Roman ruins at Alésia, near Venarey-les-Laumes, as well as the new open-air museum and visitors centre nearby. Fontenay Abbey (26km), dating back to the 12th century and now a UNESCO World Heritage site, is another remarkable day out close by.
Semur-en-Auxois (30km) is also a must-see, a picturesque town on the banks of the Armançon river with pretty cobbled lanes, charming shops and some excellent restaurants serving the very best regional cuisine. Châteauneuf-en-Auxois (50km) is another great place for lunch whilst in the other direction the town of Auxerre (99km) will enchant you with its shops, restaurants and historic architecture.
Lovers of local food shouldn’t miss the atmospheric weekly markets in Semur-en-Auxois, Venarey-les-Laumes, Montbard and Beaune as well as the great city of Dijon, just 50km away. In July and August look out for villages and towns hosting summer night markets with live music, local wine and lots of regional food!
The Côte-d'Or region is of course famous for its fine Burgundy wines and there are many opportunities to visit a variety of amazing vineyards, both big and small, for exquisite wine-tastings. You are well positioned to drive to some of the well-known wine villages and towns in both directions with Chablis just over an hours drive to the north-west and Beaune around 90km south, allowing you to taste wines from both the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune appellations.

Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesThere is plenty to see and do across this region for kids of all ages whilst staying in this child-friendly home.
There are many beautiful walks both nearby and further afield, whether exploring local paths, wandering along the banks of the Canal de Bourgogne or heading further afield to discover the incredible landscapes of the Morvan Regional Natural Park. These areas are also fantastic for cycling (and even mountain biking) whilst horse-riding stables can be found within a short drive.
Young historians will love visiting the Gallo-Roman ruins at Alésia, including an excellent new visitors centre, sometimes featuring historical re-enactments.
The animal park at Parc de l'Auxois (25km) with its miniature train, play area and swimming pool is especially lovely for toddlers and younger children whilst the theme park Nigloland (102km) will appeal to older kids with all sorts of thrilling rides.
There is also a swimming pool complex, Amphirite Aquatic Centre, with some great water-based attractions, about half an hour by car in Montbard.

Beautiful location
Beautiful location in this almost silent village.
Only noise are the charming church bells.
Spacious and traditionally furnished with modern bathrooms. Very friendly and helpful owner (Sharon) - who cooked a couple of delicious meals for us. -

Lovely warm welcome
Lovely and quiet. I can hear the church bells quietly chime on the hour. Home is very comfortable and the owner warmly welcomed me!
-
Wonderful stay and food!
The friendly welcome from the owner of the property and the delicious meals she cooked for us were stand-out features. The house itself was extremely comfy and tastefully decorated.

The perfect base to explore from.
We would definitely stay in one of Sharon’s lovely properties again. The Little Bakery was comfortable, charming and had wonderful views.
Sharon was massively helpful throughout - especially when I became unwell - getting me to a really good local Doctor and Pharmacy. The food Sharon cooks is also a highlight, we are Veggies, but still found lots to enjoy on her extensive menu.
Even out of season in March the restaurants were open and we particularly enjoyed an overnight trip to Dijon and a Michelin * tasting lunch at CIBO, for just €58 each - even the wine flight we added didn’t stretch the budget!
A lot of our evenings were spent in front of a huge log burner reading and drinking some very good wines.
There is a comprehensive guide to the area, it’s walks and highlights, the guest book is also crammed with compliments and advice as to where to go and what to do.
Thanks Sharon and family.

Relaxing and calming
We spent a very relaxing week here. It is a place of complete calm. The place still has the charm of a small largely untouched French village, in which you can comfortably immerse yourself for a few days. Whether by bike or by car, nice smaller or larger places are easily accessible. Sharon is always available with words and deeds as well as with her friendly manner. And it is a great pleasure when you bring the delicious food on time in the evening. When do you have such a service in your life? The Covid19 hygiene standards are implemented with great care and very carefully, you just feel safe and comfortable. A place where you can feel a certain lightness of the holiday again in these difficult times. And definitely enjoy the goat cheese from the neighbouring village.

Lovingly renovated old village bakery
This Old Village Bakery has been lovingly renovated by the owners. We have stayed in all their holiday houses, and this new addition doesn’t disappoint! Gorgeous bedrooms, very stylish bathrooms, one with the best view from the loo imaginable!!! And comfortable salon. The kitchen remains cool even in mid-summer temperatures. The bread comes every morning like magic and the meals available are always a hit with our family.
