Experience dreamy, unspoilt French countryside from this chateau in Haute Marne, where true peace reigns. Your stone 3 bedroom house is a private part of Chateau Beaucharm, from here you can wander the green gardens, meadows, streams, and forests uninterrupted.
The house drips with old style charm: beautiful wooden beams, tile, and stone. Eight guests can dine comfortably at each dining table (take your pick - inside or out). If you fire up the grill, you can dine al fresco surrounded by trees and hills. Nearby you’ll find all manner of country activities besides hiking. You can ride horseback, play golf or tennis, or swim in the nearby lake.
The closest town is Bourbonne-les-Bains (6 km), known for its hot springs and spas - you'll also find several restaurants and cafés. Wine lovers will be in heaven here; Haute Marne is directly between Champagne, Burgundy and Chablis, three of the most famous wine regions in the world. You’ll certainly want to pick up a bottle of bubbly when you visit Langres (35 km) - the cheese of the same name produced there has a concave cap meant to be splashed with Champagne.
What you should know…
- Quiet and non-intrusive owners live on-site in part of the château that is not accessible to guests, and have their own entrance. They will be very happy to help.
- A car is essential for touring the several wine regions nearby.
- Because this chateau is off the beaten path, you'll want to add the coordinates on your GPS!

Location
About the surrounding area of Chateau BeaucharmThe Haute-Marne lies in the south of the Champagne-Ardennes region, a beautiful and unspoilt area between Burgundy and the Vosges. The landscape consists of wooded trails in beautiful valleys where villages lie hidden. Although time has not completely stopped, this is how authentic French rural life felt. The Haute Marne is sparsely populated with only 30 inhabitants per square kilometre. It has a rich history dating from Roman times, including the spa in Bourbonne les Bains (just 6 km away) where you can relax for a day.
There are many villages, towns and castles that are well worth a visit. The medieval property sits at the edge of the hamlet and directly behind the house are the meadows, streams and forests where you can walk for hours without a human encounter. What you may encounter are the many animals that live here such as deer, foxes, boars, pheasants, partridges, martens, badgers, stoats, etc.
In the immediate surroundings you can enjoy many activities such as hiking, golf, tennis, pool, the lake (where you can swim, eat and row), thermal baths, casinos, horseback riding, restaurants, wine tasting and glassworks. Within about half an hour is Langres, a beautiful, historic walled town with renaissance houses.
Even golfers and lovers of art and culture are well catered for. Moreover, many villages organize an annual village festival and/or flea market. An hour drive away, both Dijon and Nancy are both well worth a visit.
Both the Champagne and Burgundy regions are known for their fine wines. If you appreciate wine it is a must to visit the wine route of the Grand Crus of Burgundy and visit the various wine cellars to taste and possibly to buy a bottle. Perhaps you’ll open this wine during the Christmas meal and you’ll think back to your holiday here.

Region
The people of Champagne have a lot to be proud about. Not only do they produce one of the world’s most celebrated fizzy drinks, the region was awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status in 2015, meaning it’s an even greater destination for foodies and culture vultures alike. But while it’s right at the heart of the country, the Champagne region offers more than an authentic drink – as our travel guide shows, there’s a little something for everyone if you’re thinking of booking one of our luxury villas and chateaux in Champagne.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesChateau Beaucharm is surrounded by beautiful countryside and is perfect to keep the kids active and out in the fresh air. You can enjoy activities such as hiking, horse-riding and tennis, and nothing can beat a picnic in the countryside and a long walk to see if you can encounter any of the many wildlife that lives close by!
An exciting day out for the kids would be without doubt Nigloland, an amusement park only 115 km away. It is the third most visited theme park in France, after Disneyland and Parc Astérix. There is something for everyone here, with small rides for younger children, thrilling rides for teenagers and adults as well as entertaining shows and themed restaurants.
Another fun day trip could be had at Dijon, 120km away, in the nearby stunning region of Burgundy. This charming city has a beautifully preserved, yet vibrant medieval center, renowned cuisine, and relaxed cafes. It is also child-friendly and full of parks and open spaces. A fun activity is following the parcours de la chouette (owl trail): as a family you can follow the owls on the ground which are engraved into gold-coloured plaques throughout the centre of Dijon. The owl is a symbol of the town: it can be found sculpted into a wall of Notre-Dame Church. According to legend, passers-by should touch it with their left hand and make a wish! Finally, if your little ones balk at the idea of the traditional mustard or escargots, take them to Maison Carbillet for a delicious chocolate snail!

A home away from home
Staying at Chateau Beaucharm has really been a home away from home, lovely rural setting and excellent hosts who were very warm and welcoming. The chateau itself is very clean, impressively decorated and comfortable.
It was just what we needed for a two week break, with wonderful countryside and access to lots of lakes for paddle boarding and swimming short drives away.

We Absolutely Loved It!
We, have enjoyed our stay, in spite of the fact that Govert and I couldn't do what we planned. Govert is recovering now from his pneumonia and we will have another week planned in the Vosges and hopefully we will able to bicycle there. Thank you very much for your help at Pentecost when we needed you.
Unluckily we couldn't come to enjoy dinner with you. We enjoyed the calm and beautiful surroundings as well as your beautiful accommodation. The wine tasting was good. We will go back home and keep enjoying the champagne we bought while remembering you. Many greetings!
