Overview
Welcome to Aillac Farmhouse, a charming 17th Century home in the heart of the Limousin-Perigord National Park.
Aillac is a spacious, stone farmhouse that offers comfortable accommodation for up to 11 guests. It has been renovated with great care to maintain its original character with four beautiful bedrooms, including a lovely dual-aspect double with a king-size bed, exposed beams, open fireplace and doors leading to the upper garden - the perfect place to watch early morning wildlife as you look over the pool.
Set in seven acres of glorious private grounds, enjoy the 10x5m swimming pool and there are plenty of spots to dine al-fresco and make the most of the charcoal barbecue. This is an ideal location for those who enjoy nature in unspoilt surroundings. You can play football in the garden, read in the shade, or sit under the parasols with a drink by the pool. There is a rich variety of flora and fauna in the grounds, including many different types of birds, toads, salamanders, lizards, wild deer and rabbits.
With country walks from your doorstep, a local village with a restaurant is a very short drive away whilst La Coquille and Chalus are just a little further for everyday shopping and services. Both Limoges and Perigueux can be visited for fantastic days out or spend time exploring some of the Périgord Vert's gorgeous market towns such as Nontron, Thiviers and Brantôme.
Aillac Farmhouse really does have everything you need for a relaxing time in the heart of the French countryside.
What you should know…

Location
About the surrounding area of Aillac FarmhouseAillac farmhouse is located in a small hamlet of houses just over 2km away from a charming village with a local restaurant. It is found halfway between Limoges and Perigueux, on the edge of the Dordogne, bordering the Limousin. The farmhouse is set within the Parc Naturel du Perigord-Limousin and surrounded by beautiful countryside, ideal for some wonderful walks.
Limoges Airport is located approximately 40 minutes by car whilst Calais is a 6 to 7 hour drive away (and other French ports even nearer).
The towns of La Coquille and Chalus - where Richard the Lionheart was fatally wounded - are nearby with more restaurants and larger supermarkets.
There are several medieval market towns within easy driving distance of the farmhouse. Thiviers (22km) has a traditional farmers' market and Piegut (25km) has a market every Wednesday where you can buy fresh fish, oysters, and local produce. Nontron, the principal town of the Périgord Vert, is just over half an hour away. It has ancient ramparts and a fine square from the 18th century. Also visit the chateau at Jumilhac-le-Grand (15km) to experience spectacular views.
The town of Brantôme (45km), known as 'The Venice of the Perigord Vert', offers a lovely day out - perhaps try canoeing in this picturesque setting, followed by a picnic by the banks of the river.
Aillac Farmhouse is under an hour from the cities of Limoges (46km) and Périgueux (55km). Between them you will find the usual tourist attractions, caves, chateaux, churches, aquariums, war memorials and museums.
The local produce of the area includes foie gras, truffles, cèpes, confit, and clafoutis. Guests will find cep wild mushrooms growing in the farmhouse garden. Local wines cover all budgets from Bergerac to St. Emilion, and Pineau to Cognac. The vineyards in Bordeaux (190km) and distilleries in Cognac (130km) are well worth a day out.
The prehistoric caves at Les Eyzies (98km) and old towns such as Rocamadour (150km), Bergerac (105km), and Saint-Émilion (150km) are within reasonable distance.
There are plenty of fun days out in the local region, including velo-railing (an unusual experience of biking on train tracks), quad biking, karting, and Acrobois (acrobatics in the woods). There are various swimming lakes in the vicinity of the farmhouse, and plenty of private lakes for fishing.

Region
The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.
The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.
The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesThe surrounding region offers great activities such as hiking, cycling and horse-riding as well as fishing (you can pick up a permit locally). There are also some great places to canoe such as nearby Corgnac-sur-l'Isle (30km), Brantôme (48km) or even further south to the Dordogne river.
In the summer months head to the Base de Loisirs (33km) near Rouffiac for a pleasant beach as well as paddle boats, sailing, canoeing and other family-friendly activities. There is also a large children’s play area and, for the more adventurous, an aerial adventure course.
Castle lovers can visit the beautiful Château de Jumilhac (16km) or Ségur-le-Château (44km), amongst others in the area. Whereas animal lovers can head to Park Zoo Reynou (43km) or discover the brilliant Aquarium du Limousin in the city centre of Limoges (46km). Whilst in Limoges, if you’re after a swimming pool, have a look at the huge Olympic sized-pool at L’Aquapolis, just north of the city. Limoges also offers lovely parks, a fun carousel and a beautiful historic centre.

Well done!
All went well getting to the farmhouse, and access was easy regarding security keys etc.
The housekeeper (and husband) popped round on Sunday morning to sort out the pool and TV, and gave us lots of good ideas for lunch, sightseeing etc. They were great. The master bedroom was nice and airy, but the bed squeaked a lot!! Some WD40 might be useful here. The kitchen was tiny but well appointed with utensils, plates, candles, books, games etc. all of which was great. Lots of love and appreciation. -
A great experience

We (two families with four children aged 3-10) spent a week at Aillac Farmhouse in late August 2015. It was a lovely week. The farmhouse is very spacious and very comfortably furnished. There is ample seating for everyone in the inside and outside living and eating areas. The kitchen is very well equipped with plenty of crockery and cutlery etc. The bathrooms are modern and there was always plenty of hot water. The towels were large and fluffy and the beds comfortable.
We were greeted by an English house keeper and made to feel very welcome.
The house is situated in beautiful, peaceful countryside. There is a play park nearby and a choice of supermarkets and small towns a short drive away. We also visited Perigueux, Brantome and the caves of the Vézère valley.
If there was one thing I could change, it would be the pool. As it is unheated and the weather was cool when we arrived, it was very cold. By the middle of the week, once the temperature outside was back up to the late 20's and into the 30's, we couldn't get the children out of it!
A wonderful place to stay.
