Walk to Village

This honey covered stone barn conversion is in a hamlet of charming houses in a small village very close to the Dordogne river.

It has been very recently renovated to a high standard and is sensitively furnished to provide both comfort and character. The downstairs living area is particularly light and airy, with sofas cosily positioned around a traditional fireplace and a dining table for six adjacent to the modern well-equipped kitchen.  Three stylish bedrooms can be found upstairs as well as a modern family shower room with elegant marble tiles.

Doors at the back lead out to a large terrace area around the swimming pool with plenty of space for lounging in the sunshine and al fresco dining. The garden has been beautifully landscaped with lavender, shrubs and an elegant weeping willow providing privacy.

The Dordogne is such a special place with its châteaux, gorgeous rivers and exquisite medieval villages. There are amazing prehistoric artefacts to admire, particularly in the Vézère Valley and the world famous Lascaux caves at Montignac. Food lovers will relish the delicious black truffles, confit d’oie and goat’s cheese accompanied by one of the many renowned local wines.

Nearby Trémolat is a typical Périgord village with a Michelin starred restaurant, much loved by Claude Chabrol when he filmed Le Boucher here. The pretty town of Lalinde is where you’ll find further restaurants, supermarkets and all the colours of the Thursday morning market. Sit in the peaceful gardens by the tourist office and watch the river flowing beneath the large stone bridge.

Montpazier is of the most beautiful villages in France, founded in 1284 by Edward 1st of England and probably one of the best bastide towns to visit to see what life was like six hundred years ago. Take a ride on a traditional barge through Bergerac, a beautiful market town on the Dordogne river with a medieval centre, lovely streets and squares.

Le Brin de Lavande is situated in a hamlet of small houses, on a quiet country road in a small village, close to the Dordogne river. The region of Périgord is famous for its châteaux, splendid rivers, medieval villages, fine wines, black truffles, walnuts, local markets and a laid back way of life.

The nearby pretty town of Lalinde, a 10-minute drive away, is where you will find supermarkets, restaurants, banks and an atmospheric Thursday morning market. The tourist office here is near a peaceful garden where you can sit and admire the river flowing beneath the large stone bridge. You can also bike or walk along the towpaths and the Canal de Lalinde is a popular fishing and walking spot.

Le Buisson-de-Cadouin is another town close by, an ideal spot for picnics by the Dordogne or hiring a canoe. Drive a little further to Limeuil with its idyllic setting on the river and beautiful views from the top of the village.

Even closer, Trémolat is a typical Périgord village, popular with tourists from all over the world. The boulangerie is sure to tempt you and, for that extra special meal, book into the Michelin starred restaurant much loved by Claude Chabrol when he filmed Le Boucher here.

It’s worth travelling to the summer Thursday evening market in Issigeac, half an hour away, where you can choose your food from the stalls, buy a glass of wine and enjoy your meal at one of the tables - desserts often include crepes, a local favourite. There’s a nice tea shop here if you prefer to visit in the daytime.

Montpazier, a 25-minute drive, is one of the most beautiful villages in France, founded in 1284 by Edward 1st of England and probably one of the best bastide towns to visit to see what life was like 600 years ago.

Bergerac is another delightful market town with a medieval centre, lovely streets, squares and boutique shops centred on flower filled Place Pelissière. Enjoy a view of the city from one of the traditional barges on the river Dordogne.

The lovely Vézère Valley is full of pre-historic treasures (a visit to Les Eyzies is a must) as well as amazing sights such as Grotte de Bara Bahau on the edge of the market town of Le Bugue and Gouffre de Proumeyssac at Audrix, a huge cave with stalactites, showcased by lights and music.

The whole region is a paradise for lovers of outdoors activities, from riding to tennis, water sports, mountain-biking, golfing, hiking and fishing to taking a hot air balloon trip over this wonderful landscape.

Region

The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.

The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.

The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

The Dordogne region offers a wealth of activities for families with children of a variety of ages.

Bassin Nautique, on the outskirts of nearby Trémolat, is great for water sports with picnic areas nearby. There are more canoeing opportunities on the Dordogne river just north of Le Buisson-de-Cadouin and on the Vézère at Le Bugue.

Bike along the towpaths at Lalinde and be reminded of the legend of the Couloubre, the dragon hiding in the depths of the river. Keen bikers will be excited to know that in July 2017 the Tour de France passed through the town.

Head to Le Bugue to see the alligator park at the Aquarium du Périgord Nord and The Grotte de Bara Bahau, a prehistoric cave just outside the town. Jacquou Park, just north of Le Bugue, has a water park, small farm, café and picnic area or feed wild boar in the woods of Les Sangliers de Montemart.

The adventurous will love the tree top activities at the Forest of Squirrels Adventure Park at Sarlat-la-Canéda and other tree-top centres scattered across the Dordogne and Vézère.
